PWINSIDERXTRA Q & A: PUSHING SMALLER GUYS, BATISTA TITLE SHOT, INJURED EDGE, CODY RHODES AND MORE
by Dave Scherer @ 10:00 AM on 11/4/2009

There's been a lot of talk recently of how WWE should push smaller guys to counteract claims of possible steroid usage. Isn't there an argument that if WWE stops pushing any guy who is steroid big it's almost like they're saying "Yup, these guys are all on steroids, we've known it for a while, but don't care because we want to push the big guys, but since we want to appear as if we're trying..." or maybe it says WWE can see these guys are on steroids/HGH, but because they can pass a drug test, they bury their heads in the sand and ignore the obvious problem, neither of which are good messages to send, whereas continuing to push the big guys surely shows faith in the effectiveness of their drug testing and belief that there's "no steroid problem, people are just making too big a deal out of rare cases that might not even be related to an individual wrestler's poor lifestyle choices..."?

Sure, you could make almost any argument that you want but at the end of the day, it makes more sense to show contrition and concern for something that the federal government could see as a problem than to thumb your nose up at them and give them every reason to "come in and clean up your business".  Taking the "it's no big deal" approach could be catastrophic to WWE's business.  That is probably a massive understatement in fact.

Why do you think that Dusty Rhodes is taking such a role in Cody Rhodes' career and not in his other son?

While Dusty was home a lot more and able to spend a lot more time with Cody than he was with Dustin since he was on the road wrestling when he was younger, he did have a huge guiding hand in Dustin's career as well.  The only differences between Dusty and Dustin that I remember came when Dustin married Terri Runnels.  As I remember it, Dusty wasn't a fan of the move.

Love the site, check it all the time, and I don’t watch wrestling much anymore but that is how good your site is ! I got a question. When Master P and The No Limit Souljahs were in WCW did they ever get a win? I am a rocker at heart but I have a soft spot for P and No Limit So can you answer that for me?

Yes, that is pretty much all they did, win.  They were briefly in a feud with The West Texas Rednecks faction with Curt Hennig, Bobby Duncum and the Windhams (who of course did the classic "I hate rap" song).  Even though P and his group were the faces, they didn't let the heels get in a drop of offense so the feud quickly died and they were gone from WCW shortly thereafter.

What is the deal with Edge and the constant injuries? He obviously has no control over the injuries, but how should WWE deal with him being a main event draw that constantly has to be protected and pulled out all together due to injury?

I don't know why he gets hurt as much as he does.  It could be that he has taken a lot of big bumps in his career or that he has had spinal fusion surgery or something as simple is he is not a thick-boned guy.  Whatever the case, when he returns WWE would be smart to do as much as they can to make sure he is in as good health as possible when he returns.

Ok, I know that WWE constantly ignores or rewrites their own history, but I seem to remember Batista wrestling Edge a little while ago with the stipulation being that if Batista lost, he would receive no more title shots. I just read that he and Kane will be wrestling Khali at the Bash for the championship. So, did I miss an explanation of why he's able to again wrestle for the championship?

The stipulation was he would receive no more shots at Edge's title run, not forever going forward, so WWE was fine t here.
