Pro wrestling returns to the cozy and intimate Woodbridge, NJ Elks Lodge
(665 Rahway Avenue, minutes from the Parkway and Turnpike and Routes 1 & 9),
where there's not a bad seat in the house, on Friday night February 19th at
7:45pm.
This night of bone-jarring high-flying entertainment will be capped off by
Woodbridge's first ever "Gullivers Travels" Match, where the 7-foot-plus WWE
alumnus The Giant Silva will battle four men at once, plus their manager
"Mr. Entertainment" J.D. Smoothie, as those seemingly Lilliputian-sized
wrestlers will try to pin Silva's titanic body inside a giant fishnet. We do
not know who the opponents are at press time, but we wish them luck.
The other major highlight of the bill will be the annual J-Cup Tag-Team
Tournament ("J" for Jersey), which traditionally brings the top eight
tag-teams in the Northeast together for a one-night single elimination
tournament.
This year's tournament has an even more special meaning, as it is being
renamed The Captain Lou Albano Memorial J-Cup Tag-Team Tournament, in honor
of late great WWE Hall of Famer Captain Lou Albano, who intially skyrocketed
to wrestling fame as a tag-team wrestler himself, but was best known for
managing nearly two dozen World Tag-Team Championship teams. He was a
long-time friend to NWS, and made many appearances over his later years, and
will be sorely missed.
Topping the list of tag-teams appearing at this year's tournament will be
the team that many have already labeled the odds-on favorite, still
undefeated in NWS, The Nigerian Nightmares. But the remainder of the roster
are no pushovers by any means, including The BS Express, who were trained by
TNA star Jay Lethal, central Jersey rising stars The Jock Mafia (Mike Dennis
& Chris D'Andrea), Team Commando (former WWE developmental protege "Too
Cocky" Kevin Matthews & NWS Junior Heavyweight Champion "The Love Machine"
Nicky Oceans), plus a tag-team no one would have expected, as former bitter
rivals Vicious Vinny and "The Cold-Hearted Playa" Danny Demanto have now
allied themselves as The Cold-Hearted Playas.
Ticket prices are only $18 for adults and $16 for kids and seniors, and are
available by calling the NWS box office at (732) 888-1704. All major charge
cards are accepted, and group rates are available for groups of ten or more.
