Nate “Rock†Quarry (12-3-0) vs. Jorge “El Conquistador†Rivera (17-7-0)
Nate Quarry has had a successful run in the UFC, defeating Lodune Sincaid, Shonie Carter, Pete Sell, Kalib Starnes, Jason MacDonald and Tim Credeur, while suffering defeats to Rich Franklin and Demian Maia. Nate Quarry made UFC history at UFC 56, as he was the first UFC Ultimate Fighter alumni to challenge for a UFC Title, when he met then UFC Middleweight Champion Rich Franklin. Nate Quarry entered the UFC after a run on the UFC Ultimate Fighter 1, which was won by Forrest Griffin and Diego Sanchez. Nate Quarry was also a veteran of the Excalibur Fighting promotion, where he defeated Nakapan Phungephorn and Todd Carney. Nate Quarry once took a two year break from UFC competition following UFC 56, so he could recover from a back injury. Nate Quarry will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with seven victories coming by knockout. Jorge Rivera has had a successful run in the UFC, defeating David Louiseau, Dennis Hallman, Edwin Dewees, Kendall Grove, Nissen Osterneck and Rob Kimmons, while suffering defeats to Lee Murray, Rich Franklin, Chris Leben, Terry Martin and Martin Kampmann. Roy Nelson is a longtime veteran of the International Fight League, where he defeated Vince Lucero, Shane Ott, Bryan Vetell, Antoine Jaoude, Fabiano Scherner and Brad Imes, while suffering a lone defeat to Ben Rothwell. Roy Nelson also competed in the final Elite XC event, suffering a defeat to Andrei Arlovski by way of knockout. Roy Nelson started off his MMA career in impressive fashion, with a six fight undefeated streak that had lasted nearly two years. Roy Nelson also competed in the Bodog Fight promotion, where he defeated Mario Rinaldi, while suffering a defeat to Josh Curran. Roy Nelson will be looking to use his striking skills to win the fight, with seven victories coming by knockout. Stefan Struve has had a successful run in the UFC, defeating Denis Stojnic, Chase Gormley and Paul Buentello, while suffering a lone defeat to Junior Dos Santos. Prior to entering the UFC in early 2009, Stefan Struve had already defeated UFC veterans Colin Robinson and Mario Neto. Stefan Struve had also competed in the Cage Gladiator promotion, where he defeated Tom Blackledge, Colin Robinson and Mario Neto. Of his twenty two professional MMA fights, Stefan Struve has only seen one fight go to a decision, which speaks to the fighters finishing abilities. Kenny Florian has had a successful run in the UFC, defeating Alex Karalexis, Kit Cope, Sam Stout, Dokojonosuke Mishima, Alvin Robinson, Din Thomas, Joe Lauzon, Roger Huerta, Joe Stevenson and Clay Guida, while suffering defeats to Diego Sanchez, Sean Sherk and BJ Penn. Kenny Florian also competed in the Mass Destruction promotion, where he defeated both Jason Giroux and Bobby McAndrews. Outside of three other MMA fights, Kenny Florian has fought the majority of his career in the UFC, from early 2005 to the present time. Prior to entering the UFC in early 2005, Kenny Florian had fought UFC veteran Drew Fickett at a Combat Zone event. In an interesting career note for Kenny Florian, the last two losses suffered by the fighter where his two UFC Lightweight Title fights. Kenny Florian will be looking to put the fight on the ground, with eight victories coming by way of submission. Takanori Gomi will be making his UFC debut in this fight, but he is a longtime veteran of the PRIDE promotion. While in PRIDE, Takanori Gomi had defeated Jadson Costa, Ralph Gracie, Fabio Mello, Charles Bennett, Jens Pulver, Luiz Azeredo, Jean Silva, Tatsuya Kawajiri, Hayato Sakurai, David Baron, Marcus Aurelio and Mitsuhiro Ishida, while suffering a lone defeat to Marcus Aurelio. Besides his fight against Nick Diaz at PRIDE 33, Takanori Gomi has never had an MMA fight in North America. Takanori Gomi recently competed in the Sengoku promotion, defeating Duane Ludwig and Seung Hwan Bang, while suffering defeats to Sergey Golyaev and Satoru Kitoaka. Out of the fifteen MMA fights Takanori Gomi had in the PRIDE promotion, the fighter only suffered a single loss in the promotion. Takanori Gomi will be entering the fight riding a two fight winning streak, which has lasted nearly a full year.
