NWA Championship Wrestling from Hollywood TV Report

David Marquez from the National Wrestling Alliance welcomes us to the show. In two weeks a new season of NWA Championship Wrestling from Hollywood kicks off on KDOC, Los Angeles. Marquez promises we'll meet the new stars of the NWA such as Adam Pearce, Joey Ryan, Colt Cabana, Claudio Castagnoli and The RockNES Monsters. This week, however, we'll celebrate the illustrious history of the NWA with clips from historic matches.
1956 -Lou Thesz defeats Argentina Rocca, live from Madison Square Garden, in a two minute, edited match. Marquez calls this the genesis of the NWA.
Dory Funk Jr. vs. Carlos Colon is joined mid match and runs about eleven minutes. Both men are disqualified when their bloody brawl spills out into the crowd.
Back to the studio, Marquez announces midgets and Ric Flair will be seen tonight.
1979- Comedic midget tag team wrestling featuring Little Beaver and Tiger Jackson. Three minute clip.
After another break we're back.
1982 -Abdullah the Butcher defeats Fred Martino with Les Thatcher on commentary. This bell to bell clip runs two minutes and it's time for another commercial break.
We're back. Marquez expounds on the international scope of the NWA as he introduces the next clip featuring former NWA World Champion, Blue Demon Jr.
This tag match features Demon and Nicho, versus El Hijo del Santo and Rey Mysterio Sr. A bell to bell clip that ran nine minutes and telling an awesome story of Blue Demon to unmask Santo. Demon got the clean three count to win for his team. Todd Keneley and Kris Kloss on commentary.
Back in studio, with the same shot we've had all night, the host in front of a green screen with the NWA Championship Wrestling from Hollywood logo behind him. Marquez promises Ric Flair after the ads.
Returning from the break, Marquez gives a brief history of Flair joining the NWA in in the '70s and becoming its biggest star. To this day," Marquez says, "No single wrestler has meant more to the NWA than Ric Flair."
"It's hard to be humble when you look like this." -Ric Flair vs. Pat Rose, voiced by Gordon Solie, Nick Patrick, referee.
"Now we go to School" -Ric Flair wins in six minutes with the figure four.
After this brief history of the NWA, Marquez says we'll return from break with a look at the stars of today. This ad break features a promo for the upcoming October 6th taping at the Galaxy Theatre in Santa Ana, tickets on sale now. The spot features shots of Bryan Danielson, X-Pac and Blue Demon Jr.
The announced card lists: Adam Pearce, Joey Ryan, The RockNES Monsters, Colt Cabana and Claudio Castagnoli.
Back from break, Marquez is excited about the upcoming TV season of NWA Wrestling. He throws it to a series of video interviews he did with members of the NWA team.
Jeff Resnick -Broadcaster -Says the new show will reintroduce Southern California fans to NWA Wrestling and hopefully bring in some new fans as well.
Johnny Yuma -NWA Heritage Tag Team Champion -Says Southern California is ready for something different and NWA Hollywood would bring it.
Joe Franciosi -NWA Producer -Says a wrestling promotion needs Talent and Television to succeed these days. Good television sells the product.
David Marquez, uncredited, says -Some might call this a "throw back show" but he looks at it like a typical wrestling hour. Good guys, bad guys and a clear distinction of who's who.
Jon Ian -NWA Executive -Says it's been a great experience to be a part of something this groundbreaking for the NWA.
Nick Madrid -NWA Wrestler -Says it's a great opportunity and learning experience to work weekly on television.
Johnny Yuma -Says everyone watches KDOC and the show will be a great opportunity for the RockNES Monsters.
David Marquez -Says these guys are all fresh, new and giving their all. Viewers may not know who any of the guys are but if a viewer gives the show a chance they will eventually know every one of their names. Turning to the camera he says it'll will take us, the viewer, to make this new show a success.
Todd Keneley -NWA Broadcaster -Says, when you find NWA on KDOC you'll never know what you'll get but he guarantees we will get great action. NWA is constantly bringing in the best talent from around the world.
The video interviews come to an end and we're back in studio with Marquez as he wraps up. Next week, an hour long sit down with the reigning NWA World Champion "Scrap Iron" Adam Pearce. This will lead into the first show with fresh matches on October 1st. Marquez thanks us and signs off, "Goodnight."
Overall, I had a favorable impression of the show. All of the clips were "new to me" and pretty interesting. The retrospective did set a high bar for future shows, as in, I'm expecting quality wrestling and storytelling like I saw in many of the clips.
I expected the interview piece to feature the same wrestlers mentioned at the top of the show and in the promo for the Oct. 6 taping. I got over my disappointment quickly as the guys did a good job of selling me on NWA and the show.
Not too much to say about the production quality as we only had the one studio shot and then the video interviews. If I were to nit pick, it was disconcerting to have to "figure out" that the untagged interviewee was Marquez. He was at a 3/4 angle with different lighting which didn't make it immediately obvious that he was the same guy as the host.
I watched the show from a DVR recording so the numerous ad breaks didn't bother me but six good sized ad breaks in an hour long show would make me channel surf if I was watching live.
I can't commit to the drive to Santa Ana but I will most definitely tune in for the next TV show. I liked what I saw this week.

Women's World Title Match set at NWA-SW
NWA Southwest owner/commissioner Ken Taylor announced August 29, that LaRenia will represent NWA-SW in facing NWA Women's World champion Tasha Simone on October 2nd, on the campus of Western Oklahoma State College in Altus, Oklahoma.
Taylor said this would mark only the second time since 2002 that NWA-SW has hosted a Women's Word title match, which Texan Char Starr won over Madison in Corpus Christi. He cited LaRenia's dedication to the sport of wrestling for the past five years and being trained for a year professionally under NWA legend Tom Jones in Oklahoma City, and still training with him weekly, as qualfied to get the shot.
"This is an opportunity few ever get in this business, so LaRenia now has an opportunity to represent NWA Southwest and make her mark, but she'll have 18 years of professional experience to overcome in champion who is known to be ruthless and hardcore," said Taylor.

"Death defying," "High Risk," "Unbelievable," all commonly used to describe the in ring presence of "Special K" Kirby Mack. But what would you expect from a wrestler who was trained by Matt and Jeff Hardy? Krazy Kirby Mack has made a name for himself, up and down the Eastern Sea Board. Whether it be Ring of Honor, NWA Anarchy, the AWA, or FIP, Kirby Mack has never been one to back down from a fight. Even battling his brother for the AWA Jr. Championship. In recent months, Kirby Mack has began working dates with the NWA. Later this month, Kirby will team with his brother TJ to take on the Midnight Sensations.
We'll be talking to Kirby about his start back with the Hardyz, his days working with NWA Anarchy, NWA in Charlotte, NWA Dawg Pound, his take on the Midnight Sensations, and check in with out he his after head being nearly crushed against Joel Maximo. But this is only the half of it.
Returning to Alliance Radio in the second half of the show, is none other than NWA Dawg Pound National Champion. Since last we spoke, Chance was preparing to battle Tommy Force. Little did Chance no, that Force would suffer from an injury that would shoot the Dark Child into the spotlight. Chance Prophet would go on to win the NWA Dawg Pound Championship Title in an inaugural 4 Way Match. And then Defend the title in New Jersey, Ohio, North Carolina, West Virgina, and on October 23rd he steps into the ring with the son of Afa the Wild Samoan, Manu. And if Chance Prophet survives Manu on the 23rd, the very next night he faces Sami Callahan. But before Chance steps back into a DAWG Pound ring, he'll be back on Alliance Radio and taking your calls. And don't be surprised if we get a visit from JADEN on the show.

NWA VINTAGE PRO RESULTS
Millennium Skate World, Camden, NJ Sunday September 12
NWA Vintage Pro made its debut this past Sunday before a small but loud group of fans in Camden, NJ. Doing battle against the Eagles and an already packed wrestling weekend, NWA Vintage Pro pulled out a great opening show for those in attendance.
The opening match saw Niles Young against Johnny Gargano. Young offered his hand to Gargano in a supposed show of Italian Paisano friendship but of course it was merely a ruse to gain the advantage. The contest saw a lot of back and forth between the two but in the end, Gargano went down to the evil shenanigans of Young.
Next up saw the true comedy match highlight of the year as Greg Excellent took on Johnny Calzone, the wild and crazy Pizza Guy. If you are into just all out hilarious shtick in your wrestling, this match is worth the price of a DVD alone. Those who missed this missed probably the best laughs they would have had in decades. Highlights included both men crashing to the canvas and the force of that crash knocking referee Jimmy Clydesdale straight up through the ropes and out of the ring. To “make up” for their unathletic show in the ring, both men chose to show off their athletic prowess by having a footrace to the concession stand. The sight of Calzone trying desperately to clear the skating rinks waist high wall and then getting stuck there had the crowd roaring with laughter. After more hilarious hijinks ensued, Excellent took it home with the win.
The next match was a four way featuring Justin Roberts, Problem Child, Tommy Force and NWA Dawg Pound Champion Chance Prophet. Prophet brought a skull to the ring with him that he claimed was his uncle. He spoke to his uncle for advice before the match until one of the other three decided to insult his uncle. This started a great four way mix-up that occasionally spilled out to the floor with some hard hitting action from all involved. After taking a terrific beating on the floor, Prophet made his way back and scored the pin to win the match.
Out next was Gregory Irons. For those who haven’t seen Irons work, he is legit handicapped and a very personable young man. As he made his way around the ring, the crowd was definitely with him. When his opponent was announced as Whacks, the crowd expected a tough but fair match. But something seems to have happened to Whacks since we last saw him work in this area. The first words out of his mouth were an insult to the handicapped as well as commenting about Clydesdale’s height…or lack there of. From that point, things just turned into a savage beat down on Irons. After getting the pinfall after a brutal tackle, Whacks came over to me, took my cane and began to choke Irons with it ranting about Irons being handicapped.
Next up was a tag team contest between The Spanish Armada and the Runaways (Joe Gacy and Ryan Slater). After an array of insults fired across the Armada’s bow, Gacy and Slater took it to them and sunk their fleet. Slater was literally covered in rope burns from being thrown with such force into the ropes in this tag war
And then it was time for the Man. Nick Gage. Facing Facade. We all knew where this was going.. Out of the ring. And Gage failed to disappoint. Over the guardrails and out into the crowd. Chair shots and crushing back blows into the skating rink’s cement retaining wall. And when all was said and done, chalk up another victim…I mean victory to Nick Gage.
The main event saw two men capable of brawling and wrestling in Sami Callihan and Sabian. The craziness of Callihan was apparent immediately as he carried the oversize reindeer head of the skating rinks mascot to the ring. Issuing his challenge to Sabian while wearing the head was just part of the insanity of this match which later saw a Tweety Bird Head brought to the ring. This lead to some posing with Clydesdale wearing the head follow by a face-off between both wrestlers wearing the heads. After an array of hard hitting and fast action, the BLK Jeez Sabian came out on top. Never one to turn down the chance, Sabian made his way over to ringside to admire a few of the ladies’ physical attributes as Callihan stalked to the back.
A return is planned for late October so keep your eyes out for further information on this new hot promotion.
