NWA ANARCHY TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS: BILLY BUCK & ANDREW ALEXANDER
NWA ANARCHY TV CHAMPION: “HAND OF STEEL” SETH DELAY
NWA ANARCHY YOUNG LIONS CHAMPION: BO NEWSOME
NWA Anarchy ran their final television taping prior to Fright Night 2010 on Saturday night, 10-16.
The stage was set for Fright Night in fine fashion. NWA Anarchy owner Jerry Palmer announced that the New Wave/Talent & Money showdown would be in a cage, as Anarchy attempts to blot out the memory of the subpar War Games at Hostile Environment, and with serious consequences – the losing team must disband. Shadow Jackson will get another shot at Phil Shatter’s NWA National Title. A violent angle raised the ante in the previously announced heavyweight title defense by Mikal Judas. And we have a new Young Lion’s champion along with three other matches added to Fright Night.
There were 100 in attendance at the NWA Arena in Cornelia, Ga. They were hot at times. Not so much at others.
(1) Matt Sells pinned Johnny Dangerous with All Sells Final in 4:31. Nothing really wrong with the match except for an extremely disinterested crowd that gave them the silent treatment.
(2) Nation beat Jacob Ashworth in 4:09. Crowd was a little more up because they like Ashworth. Nation is a powerhouse with potential. He looks a lot like Onyx only taller. He’s currently the GCW (Phenix City, Al) champion as a babyface, but was cast in the unfamiliar role of a cocky heel here. At this stage of his development, he would be better off with a manager. Lord knows, Anarchy has plenty of them. Nation won it with a jackhammer.
(3) The TV Title match between Champion Seth Delay and Slim J went to a time limit draw. Greg Hunter introduced Brodie Chase as guest color analyst. John Johnson bailed out of the announcer’s booth and stayed at ringside fro the match. Slim got the first big pop of the night. J outwrestled Delay. A cartwheel headscissors sent Delay out of the ring. Delay’s move for an early exit came to halt when he saw Chase stand up in the announcer’s booth. J was all over him. But Delay made J crash and burn on a missile dropkick. Delay used a brainbuster on J’s bad neck. J caught Delay in a Fujiwara armbar and went to town on him again. Delay ducked J’s step up kick to regain the advantage. Out of the blue, Kevin Marx gave a 10 seconds to go call. J managed to drop Delay on his head as the time limited expired. Marx accidentally cut the time by 2 minutes. Too bad. It was the best action thus far. They were just kicking into high gear, and the crowd was really starting to cook.
Afterwards, Johnson hid behind the security guys, then ran away when Chase came towards him.
(4) Tank submitted Aaron Lee with the Anaconda Vise at 2:50. A typically brutal squash by the Strong Style Psycho.
Afterwards, Cid Istic appeared on the ramp to chants of “bozo”. Istic said nobody could save Anarchy from the “Priest of Punishment”. With that, Judas hit the ring from behind Tank and kicked him in the back of the head. Istic ordered Judas to beat Tank’s bloody skull in. Judas punched and stomped a chair into Tank’s face, then delivered an unprotected chairshot to the head. Tank was left laying in a pool of his own blood.
(5) Bo Newsom (with Shaun Tempers) defeated Anthony Henry to win the NWA Anarchy Young Lion’s Championship in 10:37. Newsom was sporting new gear and a fohawk. Before the bell, Tempers perfumed him ala Gorgeous George. They were given time and it resulted in a good match. Newsom showed more than he has at any time in recent memory. The strength of Henry’s wrestling separates him from the other up and comers on the roster. Henry was on fire right form the opening bell. Newsom eventually went down face first. When Newsom took over, fans chanted “traitor” at him. Newsom used a senton backsplash for a near fall. Henry skinned the cat and headscissored Newsom out of the ring. Henry followed with a flying knee off the apron. Back inside, Henry tried for the Texas Cloverleaf but Newsom had it scouted. Henry applied a guillotine choke but Newsom made the ropes. Henry hit a Chaos Theory suplex for a near fall. Newsom came back with a spinning uranage for a near fall. Henry got the Cloverleaf again. As Tempers distracted referee Ian Buchanan, Hate Junkies appeared and Dany Only clocked Henry with the Rev’s cane. 1-2-3. Bo’s the new champion.
Junkies added insult to injury by firing snot rockets on Henry.
Tempers cut a promo talking about how Newsom’s three year alliance with J yielded nada, and in a mere three months with the Temptation and he was a champion. Tempers told Newsom the ladies would be flocking to him when they went out to party if he was wearing the strap. Tempers referenced J’s partner, Lane Vasser being out with an arm injury. J came out and said the contract was signed for a handicap match at Fright Night.
(6) Billy Buck & Andrew Alexander retained the NWA Anarchy Tag Titles over Hate Junkies (Dany Only & Stryknyn with Reverend Dan Wilson) via DQ in 11:11. Only was doing this really ugly mean mug. The improbable team of Buck and Alexander had things well in hand in the early going, as they played ping pong with Only’s face and worked on Strykyn’s arm. There was just one brief hint of dissension. The Rev ran distraction to set up heat on Buck. The Junkies were doing all kinds of shenanigans. Alexander let his temper get the best of him, which only added to Buck’s misery. Fans got really fired up for a Buck comeback. Buck hit a Samoan drop for a double down. Alexander was cleaning house on the Junkies, when the former champions Orion Bishop & Skirra Corvus (with Enoch Tsarion) ran in for the DQ, and Bishop speared Alexander.
Youth Gone Wild (Henry & Dustin Knight) showed up to take on Junkies. They fought to the back. Meanwhile, Corvus gave Buck the Graveyard Shift, and Bishop gave Alexander the F5 to leave the champions laying. Tsarion was screaming his fool head off about his guys being the real champions.
Hunter announced Buck & Alexander vs. Bishop & Corvus in a tag title rematch at Fright Night. Junkies vs. Youth Gone Wild was also added.
(7) Brodie Chase beat Tommy Daniels in 7:26. Delay returned the favor by doing color commentary. Chase engaged in some creative destruction of Daniels’ arm. Daniels, though, was able to take out Chase’s knee and work it over. Daniels even got the figure four but Chase reversed it. Chase hit a chokebreaker and soon scored the pin with double arm DDT. This should have been a 3-4 minute match. Why Chase would sell for a jobber of Daniels caliber at any time, much less with a title match coming up, is beyond me. Something tells me Daniels’ offense will be edited off the TV version.
Chase had a postmatch staredown with Delay. They meet for the TV title at Fright Night.
Bailey came out with the NWA Elite. He informed the fans that Derrick Driver was a no show but he knew nothing about it. Bailey said Shadow Jackson and Steven Walters were cowards if they didn’t face the Elite 2 against 3. He also said Jackson’s claim of pinning Shatter was a fraud. Of course the fans knew otherwise.
(8) The NWA Elite (Phil Shatter & Andrew Pendleton III & JT Talent with Jeff G. Bailey) and Shadow Jackson & Steven Walters went to a double count out at 23:16. This match had awesome heat owing mainly to a heated confrontation between Bailey and a ringside fan. Epic stuff. The guy ended up ripping his shirt off (his only shirt according to Shatter). Security was on standby in case an ejection became necessary. It was classic Bailey. Once the guy got riled up, Bailey was in his glory, dancing and prancing and dishing out verbal abuse. The Elite kept playing to it throughout the match by beating up the babyfaces right in front of the crazed mark. They went long because there was a lot of TV time to fill in that second hour. Story was Shatter didn’t want to mix up with Jackson unless Elite had the advantage. It was all Jackson and Walters for almost 10 minutes. The Elite got heat on Jackson. Fans busted out the “Shadowmania” chant, and Jackson spinebustered Shatter. After a double Thesz Press on T & M, the Elite huddled up to come up with a plan. Shatter pulled the ropes down to spill Walters out. The Elite beat on Walters for a while. Walters ran up the ropes to hit a superplex on Shatter. The tag was made to Jackson. The action soon spilled out of the ring, and both teams were counted out during a wild brawl.
Talent & Money dragged Walters up into the bleachers and put him in a double single leg crab. It looked quite devastating and the bleacher thing was inspired. Shatter was taunting Jackson something fierce, as Walters was being aided by security. Palmer came out. He assured Jackson that he would indeed get another shot at Shatter’s title at Fright Night. Palmer went on to say that the New Wave/Talent & Money feud was so out of control that it had to come to end – inside a steel cage with the losing team being forced to disband. Walters got the last word. “I’m still walking and you two are done.”

Oct 15 APW Nightmare on Cherry Street Live Report
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alternative Pro Wrestling’s annual Halloween supercard, “Nightmare on Cherry Street” was the kind of indie show that restores faith in the future of what often appears to be a dying art form.
The draw was the War Games, a match more than six months in the making, which built to a crescendo -- Team APW winning with top babyface and former APW Champion Anthony Henry forcing current champion Vain to submit. It was the third War Games match I’ve seen in as many months, and this blew the ones by NWA Anarchy and GCW completely away.
APW doesn’t have the most talented locker room around, but the wrestlers all work their asses off, and under the leadership of booker Jeremy Vain, they surely know how to tell stories.
There were 200 people at the Royston Gym, mostly kids and young teenagers, and the energy level in the building was off the charts for most of the night. It is a huge help when a show is paced as well as this one was. They had the cage set up in under 15 minutes. The total running time for the evening was 2:15. APW is clearly doing a lot of things right, as the attendance for their regular weekly shows has grown over the past year.
Ring announcer Michael Gentry opened the show decked out like Count Dracula for the occasion.
(1) Jacoby Boykins & Vincent Sykks beat Tommy Daniels & Brett Taylor in 3:30. After Sykks (Dustin Knight’s partner in DIE once upon a time) and Taylor got the match off to a manorexic start, it was all power moves by the 300 pound Boykins. Good thing because the greenness of the opponents made little difference. Boykins rocket launched Sykks into a splash on Taylor for a cool finish.
(2) Jacob Ashworth beat Scott Mason in 4:58. Mason is a lanky kid. He’s going to have good size for a pro wrestler once he fills out. Mason recently started at APW in addition to working the TNT shows in Clayton. His heel personality needs work. Ashworth has improved dramatically as a babyface. Not that it was an overnight thing, but it was much clearer here than at Anarchy, because of the way Ashworth has been booked (won the APW tag team championship as Officially Unstoppable with Shadow Jackson). His offense looks believable and he connects with the crowd. Mason pulled the straps down to show he meant business. Ashworth won it by coming off the top rope to catch Mason with a bulldog.
(3) Matt Sells beat Slim J in 7:17. Match was beautifully laid out and executed. Sells is another guy that is showing a lot of improvement, and Slim was nothing short of terrific. The back story is that Sells lost his tag team partner Ryan Michaels to injury and hitched his wagon to J to climb back to the top. When their bid for the tag titles didn’t pan out, Sells turned on J. Sells got a mixed reaction coming out. That was true for a lot of the heels, and then the fans would be solid for the babyface once the match started. At the bell, J went right at Sells to aggressively take control of the match. After J scored a series of near falls, Sells raked the eyes before hitting a big move to take over. The hope spots and cutoffs were spot on. J hit a brainbuster for a near fall. However, Sells ducked away from J’s vaunted flying reverse DDT. Sells hit All Sells Final but J kicked out. J came back with a suplex combo to set up a moonsault. Sells upended J and hit a draping version of All Sells Final to beat J clean. J is taking some time off from APW, and he could not have put Sells over any stronger on his way out.
(4) Tommy Capone beat Adrian Hawkins. Capone is a tubby Italian gangster from Chicago. It’s a stretch. The kids went nuts for Hawkins (flying the Bret Hart color scheme) doing the bandana give away gimmick. Things went downhill from there. Capone looked a bit lost at times. Capone hit a sidewalk slam, then missed a splash taking the full brunt of it on his knees. Hawkins went for the Unprettier. Capone blocked it and hit a choke bomb deal for the pin. Capone is a regular so the finish made sense. I was told they had a better match last week. I hope so because this was a clunky affair.
(5) N*Style (Don E & Josh O) beat Armed & Dangerous (Lane Vasser & Johnny Dangerously) to retain the APW Tag Team Championship in 11:23. Of the pushed matches on the card, this was the only one that underperformed. It was the cunning chickenshits against the massive physical and athletic superiority of Armed & Dangerous. N*Style jumped the bell. A & D quickly roared back with stereo backdrops. N*Style ended up laid out in the dreaded north-south position. That’s usually an easy pop, but their execution sucked, pardon the pun. When N*Style tried to walk out, referee Harold James just stopped counting. Vasser has developed an impressive fallaway slam. Don had to jump in to save Josh. N*Style got heat on the smaller Dangerously. Vasser cleaned house but was victimized by N*Style’s finisher, a double team Samoan Drop. Dangerously jumped in and had Don pinned with La Magistral cradle, while Josh (the legal man) pinned Vasser. Finish was mucked up. It looked like Vasser draped an arm over Josh for a double pin by the babyfaces.
(6) Dustin Knight beat “Superstar” Aaron Lee (with Tommy Capone) to become a four time NWA North Georgia Champion in 15:12. This was way better than I ever thought possible for a Lee singles match of such length. Story was the key. Lee came into the match confident of retaining because of the injury inflicted to Knight’s arm. Lee jumped Knight in the aisle and destroyed his arm for several minutes. Knight finally hit a hanging basement dropkick, his first big offense of the match. Lee hit a hotshot for a near fall. Knight sold it great with the unraveled bandage flapping in the breeze. Lee went for a submission on the arm. Knight rallied with a jumping neckbreaker and applied a crossface. Knight’s selling of the arm was stellar except for that one piece of illogic. It could have worked, if he had sold agony when he released the hold, the idea being that he sacrificed his arm to do mortal damage to his opponent. Lee made the ropes. Lee hit Starstuck (RKO) and Knight rolled out of the ring. Once Knight was back inside, Lee covered but too much time had elapsed. Lee hit Starstuck again, and Knight got a foot on the ropes. In frustration, Lee tried to use the belt. No go. Knight then hit his signature flying bodypress for the pin.
(7) In the War Games match, Team APW (Anthony Henry & Kareem Abdul Jamar & Billy Buck & Shadow Jackson) beat Duncan Enterprises (APW Heavyweight Champion Jeremy Vain & Stryknyn & Chaos & Brandon Parker with Kevin Duncan) in 29:41. The beauty of this match was how they got so many of the little things right. Speaking as someone who sat second row for the first War Games ever held, it felt true to the original spirit of the gimmick. It was remarkably free of cluster moments and told a crystal clear story. Since winning the title, Vain had thrown every obstacle possible in Henry’s path, including his alliance with Duncan and the monster Chaos. They did a ringside coin flip to determine which team would have the man advantage. Super fan Bo Miller represented Team APW. With supreme confidence, Duncan called heads and for good reason. Duncan is an old style manager and an underrated promo guy (check out his work on APW Aftershock). Buck and Parker started. They worked a nice piece of a drama about which one would take the first shot into the cage. That would be Parker. Vain entered with the fans hating on him bigtime. The numbers game took hold. The heels nailed Buck with a double superkick. Henry entered to the biggest pop thus far. Vain and Parker tried to head him off at the cage door. Henry exploded 1 on 2, damaging both of them with the Texas Cloverleaf. Stryknyn was next. His spear is over and he used it on Henry and Buck. 3 on 2 mayhem ensued. Jamar entered with Zig Zags on Parker and Vain. Stryknyn had Jamar lined up for the spear, but Jamar saw it coming, and Stryknyn went head first into the cage, drawing the first blood of the match. Duncan Enterprises was in a world of hurt when Chaos entered with a round of choke slams that left Team APW laying. Stryknyn was wearing the crimson mask. Jackson was the last one in. He superplexed Chaos. Duncan slid a chair to Vain. Jackson stripped the chair away. Vain took the Flair flip bump of the top, except he flew a lot further than Flair ever did. Team APW gave Duncan’s guy (minus Chaos) a triple 10 punches of doom. They couldn’t hang with Team APW, but Chaos came to their rescue. Jamar jumped on the back of Chaos and stabbed him in the ear with his comb. Sick stuff as he drew hardway blood. Strykyn wiped out Jamar with a Doomsday Device lariat. Jackson and Henry were bleeding, but Vain and Stryknyn were bleeding worse. Vain was a complete mess. He came into the match with his right eye swollen up like a balloon. Vain put Henry in the figure four. He refused to give up. Team APW took out the other three members of Duncan Enterprises, but they still had to contend with Chaos. Jamar kicked Chaos low. Buck superkicked him. Jackson hit him with the 1031. Henry hit the spot of the night - a spectacular frogsplash from the top of the cage. A roll of duct tape was introduced. They lugged Chaos into the corner and taped his arms to the bottom rope. Vain tried to climb out of the cage. Henry pulled Vain down exposing his buttocks in the process. Henry locked Vain in the Cloverleaf. Fans were on their feet chanting for the Vain to tap out and went nuts when he did. Afterwards, Team APW got Duncan in the cage and hog tied him with the duct tape. The picture of babyface triumph was complete.

Ultimate NWA Results from Scottsboro, AL for October 9.
1) Jarek Tyler beat Casey Kage in 7:41 by pinfall after a standing sliced bread #2.
The Devil's Rejects cut a promo saying they are now at full force with the additions of Rufus Black and Patrick Bentley. The Rev scoffed at the thought of Adam Roberts and Adam Jacobs avenging the injury that they caused to Tank's ankle at the previous show.
2) Rufus Black beat Kent Reznor in 10:37 by submission after applying the crossface chickenwing.
3) Cecil Plezing defeated Jeremiah Flynt in 12:19 by DQ after being hit by Flynt's trophy. Corey Hollis ran out and told referee Justin Envy that Flynt had used the trophy and the referee reversed his initial decision and gave the victory to Plezing.
4) Patrick Bentley defeated Chris Silvers in 8:46 by pinfall after sitting down on a sunset flip attempt from the apron by Silvers and grabbing the ropes above the head of Envy.
5) Chrisjen Hayme defeated Corey Hollis in 14:33 by pinfall after referee Envy was knocked down and Jeremiah Flynt hit Hollis with his trophy.
6) Adam Jacobs & Adam Roberts defeated Se7en & Shaun Tempers with The Reverend by countout. The Rejects retain the Ultimate NWA tag team titles due to the count out.
After the match, all 5 members of The Devil's Rejects(The Rev, Tempers, Se7en, Bentley and Black) attacked referee Envy & ring announcer Scott Hensley. Roberts and Jacobs tried to make the save but fell victim to the numbers game of the Rejects as well. Roberts was beaten down and handcuffed as the Rejects injured Jacobs. Moments later, Plezing addressed the crowd & said on 10/23 the Rejects WILL pay for this.
