Results From Last Weekend
National Wrestling Superstars made their Kearny, NJ High School debut on Friday night, November 19th and what an event it was, with a packed gymnasium and action from the opening bell.
- The opening contest saw newcomer to the NWS, Spyral, take on former Cruiserweight Champion Jumping Joey Janela, and despite Janela's trickery, Spyral came away with a hard fought victory.
- Match #2 was a tag-team match featuring Jersey Shore Jocks member Mike Dennis and his partner for the night (due to the injury of his regular partner Chris D'Andrea), NWS Jersey Shore Champion "G.Q." Myke Quest, take on former NWS Heavyweight Champion "Corrupted" Corey Havoc and current NWS Junior Heavyweight Champion "The Love Machine" Nicky Oceans You could tall all four wanted to make an impression right from the start as they battled in and out of the ring. Quest, making a dive out of the ring onto Corey Havoc, was injured and carried out by security and the match continued with Nicky Oceans pinning Mike Dennis for the win.
- Match #3 saw former WWE & WCW star "America's Hero" The Patriot, who was accompanied to ringside by Kearny High School teacher Jim Pickel and former ECW & WWE diva Dawn Marie, take on his arch rival Saddam Insane, who also had an entourage in the likes of TNA's Stevie Richards and Delaware loudmouth "Mr. Entertainment" J.D. Smoothie. The referee sent Richards and Smoothie back to the locker room, but it was Saddam's size that was making a difference as the two went back and forth. As The Patriot had Insane set for the pin, Richards and Smoothie ran back into the ring and attacked The Patriot. Security ran in and were thrown out before Val Venis ran to the ring and made the save.
- In Match #4, former OVW Wrestling star Pat "The Buck Stops Here" Buck defeated ROH star Rhett "The Threat" Titus in a match that saw both men battle each other, and it was Pat Buck scoring an upset over the former NWS Jersey Shore Champion.
- In Match #5, The Nigerian Nightmares (Ma-Fu & La-Fu & Voodoo Princess Sheeta) defeated former WWE star Salvatore Sincere & "Mr. Entertainment" J.D. Smoothie & WSU Spirint Champion Brittney Savage. This match saw the Voodoo Princess Sheeta handle most of the match battling Sincere, Smooth, and Savage, but when she made the tag and Mafu and Lafu came into the ring, it was total bedlam with Sheeta spearing Savage for the win.
- The Main Event was a battle of the TV Icons as former WWE star Val Venis, with former ECW & WWE diva Dawn Marie and teacher Jim Pickel, took on TNA star Stevie Richards. Because Val had support at ringside, Stevie demanded to make the odds even and called out Saddam Insane. Val, laughing, told Stevie "is that the best you've got? I have an idea. Lets make it a handicapped match and I will defeat you. To make the match even more exciting, how about if the winner goes home with Dawn Marie!" After both sides agreed, the match was on and Richards and Insane worked over Val for nearly fifteen minutes, tagging in and out and at the end, with Insane holding Venis, Stevie grabbed a "Wet Floor" sign and went to hit Venis, who ducked and Insane got hit instead, allowing Val to pin him and giving Val Venis a hard-fought victory.
National Wrestling Superstars made its long-awaited return to the Lacey Township, NJ High School Gym on Saturday night November 20th, and a great crowd filled the ringside area and spilled into the bleachers to watch another night of hot NWS action.
- In the opening contest, The Nigerian Nightmares (Ma-Fu & La-Fu, with manager Voodoo Princess Sheeta) crushed the tag-team of "The White Urkel" B. Fehrm & Nikko The Flying Monkey Man. "Crushed" is truly an understatement as the 900+ pound undefeated Nightmares threw their competition all around the ring like rag dolls. After tossing Nikko outside the ring,The Nightmares finished off B. Fehrm with an impressive moonsault by La-Fu from the top rope for the merciful 1-2-3.
- In a high-flier showdown, "Mr. Entertainment" J.D. Smoothie defeated NWS Tag-Team Champion Jersey Jocks member Mike Dennis. The match was a thrilling back and forth battle in and out of the ring, and towards the end it looked like Dennis would upset the veteran former Cruiserweight Champion. But Smoothie ducked under the ring, and came out the other side behind the befuddled Dennis, carrying a "Wet Floor" sign. Smoothie laid out Dennis with the sign while the referee was still looking under the ring for him, and the referee came back and saw Smoothie's cover and counted 1-2-3.
- In a tag-team showdown, "Corrupted" Corey Havoc & Skitzo (with manager Captain Johnny Kool) vs. former WWE & WCW star "America's Hero" The Patriot & former ECW brawler The Equalizer ended in a double-disqualification. With four big men in the ring, the match quickly turned into an all-out brawl, with Johnny Kool getting in plenty of shots himself. After Equalizer was double-teamed for several minutes, he was able to tag in Patriot who cleaned house on Havoc & Skitzo. After Patriot chased Skitzo to the back and Equalizer leveled Havoc with a flying boot and locked on a chinlock submission, it looked like the two former TV stars would win the day, but just then Danny Inferno and J.D. Smoothie ran into the ring. Smoothie took out the referee with his "Wet Floor" sign, and he and Inferno and Havoc began working over Equalizer until Commissioner Gino Moore came out and stopped the melee with threats of fines and suspensions. Captain Kool seized the microphone and claimed that he and his wrestlers were the stars tonight, not people like Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake. This brought out the former WWE star himself, who said he was ready for a fight any day. Smoothie and Inferno approached Beefcake with their fists raised, and Beefcake did not back down. Then out from the back came former WWE bad boy Salvatore Sincere, who snuck up behind Beefcake and attacked him, and he and Inferno and Smoothie started triple-teaming Beefcake until fellow WWE alumnus Val Venis ran out and broke it up. Commissioner Moore announced that Sal would be facing Brutus Beefcake later that night in a "Loser Gets A Haircut" Match, and Danny Inferno would have a one-on-one match with Val Venis.
- In a match hailed as "going old school", former WWE star Val Venis defeated Danny Inferno. The two stars put on an exhibition of old school mat wrestling, with Val pulling out all his amateur and pro mat wrestling skills, and Inferno matching him hold for hold. Inferno seized upon Val's apparently vulnerable back and worked over it for several minutes, coming close ona few occasons to getting the upset win. But Val battled back, and after thwarting a superplex attempt by Inferno, Val hit a Money Shot from the top rope to pin Inferno for the 1-2-3. After the match, Val took the microphone and gave "props" to Inferno for going toe-to-toe with him and working over his back old-school style, and promised they would meet again in the ring one day. The two shook hands in a show of respect.
- In a battle of former WWE stars, Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake defeated Salvatore Sincere (with manager Captain Johnny Kool) in a "Loser Gets A Haircut" Match. Despite Sal and Kool pulling out all the tricks in the book, including sneaking a foreign object in his tights, Brutus hung in there, and after escaping a chinlock submission hold, he locked Sal in a Sleeper Hold and it looked like curtains for Sal (and his hair). Johnny Kool jumped into the ring to try and save his charge, but Brutus threw Sal into Kool, which knocked him out of the ring, then rolled up the still groggy Sal in a schoolboy rollup for the 1-2-3. Kool jumped into the ring once again to try and claim that Brutus had pinned Sal with a handful of tights. This allowed Sal to escape the ring with his hair intact, but Kool was not so lucky, as Brutus slapped a Sleeper Hold on Kool, then proceeded with the struttin' and the cuttin', even using the hedge clippers to give Kool a healthy trim before finally leaving the ring.
- In the final match of the evening, Lacey High School alumnus and Ring Of Honor TV star Rhett "The Threat" Titus defeated NWS Junior Heavyweight Champion "The Love Machine" Nicky Oceans and Judas Young in a Triple-Threat Match. The match was more of a two-on-one as Oceans and Young tried to work together to take out Titus. But their greed over which one of them would get the pinfall prevented them from putting away Titus for good, and Oceans eventually asserted that he didn't need Young and could do it himself. Titus was not about to disappoint his home crowd and battled back. After Titus put down Young with a legwhip to the neck, Oceans seized Titus and attempted to hit his Boom-Boom-Pow finisher on him. But Titus blocked it and hit a huge standing dropkick right in Oceans' face, knocking him flat right on top of Young. Titus then covered both of them and got the 1-2-3, sending his hometown fans home happy.
National Wrestling Superstars rounded out their huge three-show weekend by joining up with their Delaware affiliate Funkdafied Wrestling Federation on Sunday afternoon November 21st for "A Whole Lotta Funk" at the Nur Shrine Temple Auditorium in New Castle, DE. A very light but very enthusiastic crowd came out and definitely got their money's worth. (And for those who didn't come out, shame on you, you missed a great show!)
- Before the first match, "Play That Funky Music" blared over the speakers, and the fans cheered expecting to see FWF Heavyweight Champion Funky White Boy, but instead, the challenger for tonight Lumberjack Monroe came out, mocking Funky's dance moves. As the crowd boo'ed, Lumberjack talked about how he was going to win the belt tonight, and that brought out Funky White Boy for real. Funky reminded Lumberjack that this would be a Coffin Match, and challenged Lumberjack to put his entire career on the line, and Monroe did the same challenge to Funky. Monroe then announced that he would have an "insurance policy" in his corner and brought out the recently retired Mad Dog, restrained on a chain. Funky promised that he would have someone who could match Mad Dog's skills in his corner, and would reveal him at match time.
- In the opening match, "The Love Machine" Nicky Oceans defeated "Retro Rocker" Ricky Rose. Despite a courageous effort by the relatively newcomer Rose, the veteran Oceans won out, and after blocking a superkick attempt by Rose, Oceans hit his patented "Boom-Boom-Pow" finisher and got the three-count.
- In a tag-team contest with four of FWF's big men, the team calling themselves The Trust (Bobby Youngblood & Eddie Redgrave, with Cameron Shaft in their corner) defeated the team of Jeff "Cannonball" Guerriero & "The Real Deal" Mike Goldstein. This was a wild and unpredictable brawl by all four, and was won when Bobby Youngblood used the chain he wears around his neck as a weapon, hitting Goldstein with it while the referee was distracted by Cameron Shaft, and covering Goldstein for the 1-2-3.
- In a two-on-one handicap match, one-half of the reigning FWF Tag-Team Champions, Nigerian Nightmare Maifu, defeated T.C. Cash & the wrestler who simply went by the name Mark. Cash and Mark turned out to be the ones handicapped, as Maifu ran over, around, and just plain through them with virtually no resistance, and at the end crushed Cash with an avalanche in the corner and finished him off with a Nigerian Roll for the merciful three-count.
- In a Ladder Match, "The White Urkel" B. Fehrm defeated "Mr. Entertainment" J.D. Smoothie to become the *NEW* FWF Cruiserweight Champion. In what many considered to be a major upset (as well as a Match Of The Year candidate), the young Fehrm matched holds with with the veteran Smoothie as the two flew around inside and outside the ring, and smashed each other into the two ladders that were brought into play. Smoothie thrilled the crowd by hitting a flying "Leg Drop Across The Delaware" from the very top of one of the ladders, but still could not put away Fehrm. The end came when Smoothie placed a chair on the mat, and attempted to back-superplex Fehrm onto it from the top rope. But Fehrm reversed the move and flipped Smoothie onto the chair head-first, and covered him for the 1-2-3 to win the championship.
- In a battle of former tag-team partners, Dark Karnival's Jo-Jo defeated Chio in a Grudge Tables Match. The two men, having known each other's moves for years, brawled all over the building, neither giving any quarter, and also brought chairs and ladders (the ones that survived the previous match) into play. In the end, Jo-Jo used several chair shots to Chio's back to soften him up and lay him out on the table. Jo-Jo's first flying splash onto Chio on the table did not do the job, but another one a minute later did, smashing the table and giving Jo-Jo the victory.
- In a bonus ladies match, "The Definition of Technician" Cindy Rogers defeated "Pryme Tyme" Amy Lee. This was a match of Cindy's skills against Amy's size, strength, and brawling abilities. Cindy used her skills to frustrate Amy Lee for most of the match. Amy finally began to dominate towards the end, but after hitting a Samoan Drop on Cindy, Cindy came up with difficulty breathing, claiming her throat was injured. The referee made Amy back off while he checked Cindy out, and while Amy argued with the referee, Cindy "miraculously recovered" and snuck up behind Amy Lee and rolled her up with a schoolgirl for the 1-2-3. Amy was furious at the deception, but ended up shaking Cindy's hand in a show of respect.
- In the Main Event, a Coffin Match where the FWF Heavyweight Title and careers were on the line, Funky White Boy (with Little Funky in his corner) defeated Lumberjack Monroe (with Mad Dog in his corner) to retain his title. Funky used his quickness to negate Lumberjack's size advantage, and despite the double-teaming efforts of Lumberjack and Mad Dog, Funky eventually shoulder-tackled Lumberjack into the coffin, then threw Mad Dog onto the lid to slam it shut and win the match.
