NWS STRUGGLES THROUGH THE PAST WEEKEND
By NWS on 12/6/2010 8:34 AM
After a somewhat better than expected (but still down some) Friday night Kenilworth, NJ Veterans Center crowd, National Wrestling Superstars endured its largest financial blow of the year, even greater than the September Somerset disaster, this past Saturday night at the once-thriving Woodbridge, NJ Elks Lodge. This seems to be just another sign of a downtrodden economy that has finally caught and affected indy pro wrestling, along with the malaise that seems to cover this country like a suffocating film, and along with the all-out apathy towards pro wrestling of late in general, making shuttering ones doors (as some have already done) plausible economic sense.
Henceforth, here are the results from two otherwise great nights of pro wrestling:
Friday night December 3, 2010 at the Kenilworth, NJ Veterans Center:
- Match #1 saw Mister Nick Gregory defeat Mexico’s Paco Libro. Paco spent much of his time outside the ring avoiding the larger Gregory, but despite the running, Nick Gregory came away with the victory.
- Match #2 saw a bitter "Mr. Entertainment" J.D. Smoothie, who not only cannot regain the NWS Cruiserweight title, but recently lost the same title in the FWF (the NWS Delaware affiliate) take on the wrestler known as Snake Eyes. Smoothie was escorted to the ring by Corvis Fear, but told Fear to prepare for his match later in the show as this was going to be easy. Reality set in as Snake Eyes took Smoothie by surprise, who went in the back and told Fear to come out and watch his back. With two on one, it wasn’t long before Smoothie (with Fear) got the win.
- March #3 saw "The Dancing Hillbilly" Justin Blackwell take on Corvis Fear, who was accompanied to ringside by J.D. Smoothie. Blackwell wanted to dance but Fear would have no part of it and the battle was on. For nearly ten minutes, Blackwell and Fear tore into each other until Smoothie got involved and attacked the referee. While the ref was down, it was two on one until Snake Eyes came out and attacked Smoothie while Fear looked on. At that point, Blackwell turned Fear around and Snake Eyes helped the ref up and Fear fell victim to the 1-2-3.
- Match #4 was a non-title bout as FWF Cruiserweight Champion "The White Urkel" B. Fehrm took on former ECW & TNA star Julio Dinero. Fans wondered what Fehrm was thinking when he took on this TV legend, as Dinero, once a member of Raven’s Flock, was all over the cruiserweight and had several opportunities to pin him but kept pulling him up. Finally, after five minutes, Referee Kenny Edwards set a record for what must have been the fastest three-count in pro wrestling history to end the massacre over Fehrm. But rather than leave, Dinero told fans and officials “I wasn’t done” and continued to pummel Fehrm until security came in to try to save him, but were thrown out. It was former WWE star Val Venis who stormed the ring to make the save and told NWS officials he had an open contract and demanded that he wrestle Julio Dinero and that he would put up his valet Miss Michelle (who was at Val’s service since the Sayreville show on November 13th) as an enticement. The match was set for later on in the evening.
- Match #5 saw a battle of former friends, as Steve “The Little Gipper” Gipke took on Anthony “Tough Tony” Scorace in a Falls-Count Anywhere Match. Security, despite their wounds from Julio Dinero, did their best to keep the action tight as these two battled all over the building. After ten minutes and uncountable weapons, Steve Gipke used a metal chair on his opponent on the stage to pin his opponent.
- Match #6 saw former WWE star Val Venis take on former ECW & TNA star Julio Dinero, with the services of Miss Michelle on the line. This time, Julio seemed ready to battle for not only his pride but his prize, as he viciously attacked Val’s leg, even hooking him in a Figure-Fout Leg Lock (that Val escaped by grabbing the ropes). The bout went back and forth for the next ten minutes before Val seemed to have everything under control and went for his Money Shot finisher, when Miss Michelle climbed on the ring apron and called Val over. While this was happening, Julio grabbed the referee and told him he was hurt. Michelle sprayed perfume into Val’s eyes then called the ref over. While this was going on, Julio threw powder in Val’s face, ensuring he couldn’t see and was able to roll Venis up for the 1-2-3. A rematch was immediately signed for Saturday’s show in Woodbridge, NJ with special stipulations to be announced.
- Match #7, the second of two main events, saw The Mad Men ("Too Hot Steve Scott" & Nick Talent) and Brittney Savage take on NWS Tag-Team Champion Jersey Shore Jocks member Mike Dennis & Jumping Joey Janela (filling in for the injured Chris D’Andrea) and Martie “Snookie” Belle in an inter-gender tag team event. This was another match that was all over the building with high spot after high spot as all six of these wrestlers wanted to end the evening with the win. With Savage showing everyone why she is the WSU Spirit Champion, and Mike Dennis showing everyone why he is one half of the tag team champions, not to mention Talent, Scott and Janela trying to outdo one another, it was a battle with lots of pride on the line. After nearly fifteen minutes, Marty Belle scored an upset win over Brittney Savage, not only giving her team a win but moving her up the ladder for a WSU Spirit Title shot.
Saturday night December 4th at the Woodbridge, NJ Elks Lodge:
- In the opening tag-team contest, the duo of former NWS Heavyweight Champion "Corrupted" Corey Havoc & current NWS Junior Heavyweight Champion "The Love Machine" Nicky Oceans (with manager Brittney Savage) defeated "The Dancing Hillbilly" Justin Blackwell & Mister Nick Gregory. Blackwell and Gregory had the size advantage throughout the match, and after Blackwell tagged in and cleaned house, it looked like they were on their way to victory. But Brittney turned the tide in her teams' favor when she tossed Oceans a metal tray from under the ring, and while Smoothie distracted the referee, Oceans clocked Blackwell with it. Oceans and Havoc then double-teamed Gregory and Oceans finished him off with a superkick for the 1-2-3.
- Before the second match, former ECW & TNA star Julio Dinero came out to the ring, crowing about how he defeated former WWE star Val Venis the previous night and injured his knee, and promised to destroy him in their rematch tonight. He then called out his valet Miss Michelle and promised that she would be going home with him tonight. This brought out Val Venis himself, who chastised Miss Michelle for turning on him the previous night and costing him the victory, and promised to defeat Julio tonight and teach Miss Michelle a few things as well.
- Nick Napoleon made his NWS debut a successful one with a victory over luchador Paco Libro. The scrappy Napoleon held his own against the veteran Paco, and after blocking a superkick from Paco, hit one of his own followed by a thunderous forward DDT for the 1-2-3 victory.
- In a non-title tag-team match, "Mr. Entertainment" J.D. Smoothie & Chris Steeler (with manager Brittney Savage) defeated NWS Tag-Team Champion Jersey Shore Jocks member Mike Dennis & Jumping Joey Janela (with injured Jersey Shore Jocks member Mike D'Andrea in their corner). The four high-fliers fought all over the ring, and outside it as well, and the match was pretty even. But once again Brittney Savage would prove the deciding factor. As Dennis had Steeler in a half-crab submission move, Brittney tried to bring that same metal tray from the first match into the ring again. But Chris D'Andrea jumped into the ring and seized the tray from Brittney. While the referee was ejecting D'Andrea and the tray, Brittney hit a blatently low blow on Mike Dennis, who was then leveled by a lariat from Steeler and a flying "Leg Drop Across The Delaware" from Smoothie and pinned 1-2-3.
- Former WWE developmental star Pat Buck and Corvis Fear fought to a ten-minute time-limit draw. These two ring veterans waged a hard-hitting battle all over the ring, with countless near-falls from both men. After rolling out of the way of Corvis' attempt at his own version of Val Venis' "Money Shot", Buck leveled Corvis with a spinebuster and a superkick, but the bell rang before the referee could count to three and the match was declared a draw. Buck and the fans demanded five more minutes, but Corvis refused.
- In the Main Event, with Miss Michelle's valet services on the line, former WWE star Val Venis defeated former ECW & TNA star Julio Dinero. Dinero went after Val's injured knee from the start, but Val countered by working over Julio's left shoulder. The two battled back and forth in another classic encounter. After pounding on Val's knee, Julio survived a comeback attempt from Val and was able to put him in a Figure-Four Leglock. Val screamed in pain but would not give up, and after what seemed like ages he was able to reach the ropes and break the hold. Val then roared back and leveled Julio with a knee lift and an uranage, and then went to the top rope for a Money Shot, but Julio blocked it with his knees. Val then seized Julio's weakened left shoulder and locked it in an arm-stretching submission hold, and the pain was too much for Julio and he tapped out, giving Val the win by submission. Val took the microphone and said that while he had lost respect for Julio the previous night after the way he had repeatedly beat up on B. Fehrm, he had regained respect for him as he had fought a textbook old-school match. Val then called his victory prize Miss Michelle into the ring. Miss Michelle was none too pleased, but after Val whispered his plans into her ear, she suddenly broke into a smile which infuriated Julio. But then Val announced that he had changed his mind, and wanted no part of Miss Michelle, and instead wanted a partner with some "experience", and picked out two older ladies sitting in the front row, and left arm-in-arm with them to the delight of the crowd, leaving Miss Michelle standing in the ring with a stunned expression on her face as the show ended.
