An Striking title defense, a lost soul, a new challenge, and a night of great wrestling!!
1/15/11-Taunton Elks-Taunton, MA-A great display of sportsmanship was in store for the opening bout of the evening. The Dirt Devils hit the ring, followed by Roger Williams, and Mike Majors. Majors, one half of the tag team juggernaut “The Southern Bad Boys” was forced to tag with another team for the evening, as his partner Mike Stryker, readied for his championship match later that night. Sportsmanship and handshakes went all around, until Majors hit a superkick and won the match via pinfall.
Cargill Vinton was next to hit the ring to do battle with “The Punisher” Don Vega. Ten minutes plus a contributed to what would eventually be the match of the night. Back and forth action ensued until Vinton left the match in an attempt to save himself from a potential loss. Vega was having none of that though, and demanded the match continue after a count-out led to his win. Vinton eventually obliged, and ultimately, neither man won when they were both counted out.
A brief interview with a very confrontational Nicholas Night took center stage. Night spoke a bit about the fan’s betrayal towards him, and his ongoing feud with SPW management. He also spoke of the dismantling of SPW announcer Derek at the show in Attleboro on 12/5. Ultimately, nothing was settled, and a match for Night was set for later in the evening with “Samoan Nightmare” Keano as Announcer Derek stood in as special guest referee.
The Baker Boys, Devin and Brickhouse took to the ring next to do battle with “Nature Boy” Gary Gold, and “Texas Tough” Travis Funk. Intense tag action took place between two teams that truly hate each other. The young Baker was eventually felled, but his arm was clearly under the rope, and the referee simply missed it.
An angry, and dejected Brickhouse Baker re-entered the ring, moments later, to demand either Gold or Funk re-enter the ring to continue the match due to the missed call from the ref. Funk was happy to take the challenge, but later lost to Baker with a small package roll up. That feud will, once again, continue to a later date.
Nicholas Night made his way to the ring next to have his promised match with Keano. Derek stepped in, and the match was under way. Twelve minutes of action transpired, and Night was determined to show the crowd how great he was, and that he simply didn’t need them. Keano, however, wouldn’t fall or bow to the former SPW Heavyweight Champion, and eventually, with a slight “accidental” nudge from the ref, Night miscued, and Keano took advantage to earn the victory. Before Night left, though, Derek pulled a surprise from his pocket, and showed the crowd, and Night himself, that he had a contract for a match with Night on the 5th of February in Attleboro.
Finally, the main event was transpiring. Mike Stryker, after earning a title shot in Taunton last year in a gauntlet match, was there to take the best the SPW Champion, “Mr. Nice” Mike Nice, had to offer. Fifteen furious minutes took place, and ultimately, when it seemed the championship was about to change hands to a game and ready Stryker, the time limit elapsed, and the contest ended in an unfortunate draw. Another minute, and there would have been a new champion, but that was not to be so.Strkyer did not leave with the championship, however left as a winner in the eyes of fans. What lies in wake for the shaken champion remains to be seen, but you can bet the night of the 5th in Attleboro we’ll all have some surprises in store, and another great night of Showcase Pro Wrestling will occur before our eyes.
