NWS Internet News Update For Week Of 01/31: Straight Edge Vs. Hardcore This Past Weekend, NWS Honors A Fallen NJ Police Officer, More February Show Details, And More

Hello NWS fans! This is your weekly update on what's happened, what is happening now, and what is going to happen soon in the nation's leading family-friendly pro wrestling promotion, National Wrestling Superstars.

Upcoming Shows This Weekend

This coming Saturday night February 5th, NWS makes its annual return to Edison, NJ's St. Matthews Parish Gym (81 Seymour Avenue, just off Plainfield Avenue, minutes from Routes 1 and 287) for "Super Brawl Bowl", with a 7:35pm bell time.
With the Super Bowl coming up this Sunday, NWS will treat the tri-state area fans to some hard-hitting bone-jarring action one day early, when they present their own "Super Brawl Bowl". And when we talk about the main event, "bone-jarring" and "hard-hitting" are major understatements, as this match will feature three wrestlers in a triple-threat "Loser Gets Put Through A Door Match". This match was literally invented by NWS, and the rules are very simple: The winner must smash both of his opponents through a wooden door. And trying to avoid being literally "shown the door" will be veteran NWS Junior Heavyweight Champion "The Love Machine" Nicky Oceans, Combat Zone Wrestling high-flying star Spyral, and a man who has made a career of fearlessly smashing through just about everything, a former ECW hardcore icon, the homicidal, suicidal, and genocidal Sabu.
In addition to a pair of doors, a pair of title belts will also be on the line in Edison, namely the NWS Tag-Team Title belts, as as popular champions The Jersey Shore Jocks (Mike Dennis & Chris D'Andrea) take on the current number-one contenders, the devious Mad Men (Nick Talent & "Too Hot" Steve Scott).
Plus, another former ECW star will make his return to NWS after a long absence, as the brain-eating Zombie takes on another NWS oddity in the bizarre Hollywood Divine. NWS newcomer "Retro Rocker" Ricky Roxx will battle veteran luchador Manuel Manny Moore, and other regional and local pro mat stars will appear, including "Mr. Entertainment" J.D. Smoothie, Bobby Youngblood, Snake-Eyez, The Jersey Kidd, and Edison area favorite Darren Venture. And no St. Matthews show would be complete without everyone's favorite mascot Matty The Leprechaun!
Tickets are only $18 for ringside seats and $16 for bleacher seats.
Tickets for this weekend's show are still available by calling the NWS box office at (732) 888-1704. All major charge cards are accepted, and group rates are available for groups of ten or more. Remaining seats, if any, will go on sale at the door oe hour before bell time.

Results From Last Weekend

Friday night January 28th, National Wrestling Superstars kicked off its 2011 schedule with the first show of a huge double-shot weekend, at its favorite central Jersey venue the Manville, NJ VFW Hall. Despite the snowy weather, the crowd was much better than expected, but (indicative of these tough economic times) was still down from Manville's typical draw. Still, what they may have lacked in numbers was made up for in enthusiasm, as the fans showed how much they had missed NWS while they were on their winter break.
    • The lovely Destiny was introduced as the co-hostess for the evening.
    • In the opening tag-team contest, the team of Thunder Horse (Indian Chief Draven & "Warrior" Jack Spade) defeated NWS Heavyweight Champion Ray Ray Marz & Manuel Manny Moore. Draven and Spade concentrated their attack on Manuel for most of the match, and despite some heroics from the champion towards the end, Draven and Spade threw Marz out of the ring and Draven finished off Manuel with a spinning uranage for the 1-2-3.
    • In a return grudge match from the last Manville show, Ring of Honor star Judas Young and Rich "Ice Pick" Lowinski were both disqualified for excessive brawling outside of the ring. The two tore into each other from the start, and after neither could gain an advantage inside the ring, the fight spilled to the outside, where chairs and even garbage cans got involved, and neither would heed the referee's calls to return to the ring, until the referee got fed up and called for the bell. The entire referee and Security staff was needed to separate the two, and Commissioner Gino Moore announced that when NWS returned to Manville in May, the two would meet again, and to ensurethat the fight stayed in the ring, it would be surrounded by Lumberjacks!
    • In a Four-Corners Elimination Match, Chikara Wrestling star Frightmare defeated Ring of Honor star Alex Payne, Combat Zone Wrestling star Spyral, and former NWS Cruiserweight Champion "Mr. Entertainment" J.D. Smoothie. This was a high-flying showdown with plenty of action inside and outside the ring. Smoothie was the first to be eliminated via a Michinoku Driver from Spyral. The three remaining stars fought on, but after Spyral took down both Payne and Frightmare with a flying cross body, he left the ring, proclaiming he was wrestling's hottest free agent and didn't need this match. He strutted around the ring until the referee reached the count of ten and announced he was eliminated. Payne and Frightmare continued the match one-on-one until Frightmare reversed Payne's Michinoku Driver attempt into a neckbreaker and a standing knee splash for the 1-2-3. Spyral, who had remained at ringside, interrupted Frightmare's victory celebration and flattened him with an enziguri kick. Spyral demanded a one-on-one match with Frightmare, and Commissioner Moore announced it would take place at the next Manville show in May.
    • Danny Inferno (with Judas Young & former WWE star Luke Gallows) defeated "Atomic Dog" Ali. Before the match, Gallows had Inferno and Young take the "straight edge oath" and annointed them members of the "Straight Edge Brothers". Ali was not impressed or intimidated, but once the match started, he was certainly outnumbered as Gallows and Young interfered numerous times from the outside. Ali fought back, and actually was on the verge of getting Inferno up for a Samoan Drop when Gallows leaped onto the ring apron. When Ali went over to deal with Gallows, Inferno snuck up from behind and rolled him up with a schoolboy and a handful of tights to get the three-count. Inferno, Gallows, and Young continued to attack Ali after the match until former ECW hardcore icon Tommy Dreamer ran in to make the save. Gallows told Dreamer that he had stuck his nose where it didn't belong, and later that night, he would make him pay.
    • In a tag-team match originally scheduled as "Tribe Vs. Tribe", The Island Assault Squad (former WWE star Manu & fellow Samoan Tupu) defeated former ECW star The Zombie & The Famous Wrestling Clown (subbing for The Nigerian Nightmares who had a death in the family). It was clear that Manu & Tupu had wanted The Nightmares, and took out their frustrations on their opponents. Still, the veteran Clown and Zombie would not prove to be easy targets and fought hard, but it was all Samoans in the end, as they threw Zombie out of the ring, Manu hit a Samoan Drop on The Clown, and Tupu finished him off with a flying splash from the top rope and got the 1-2-3. Manu & Tupu got in some additional blows on Zombie, and left the ring saying they would not stop until they got their hands on The Nigerian Nightmares.
    • In the Main Event, a battle hailed as "Stright Edge Vs. Hardcore" (but was pretty much all hardcore before it was over), former ECW hardcore icon Tommy Dreamer defeated former WWE star and "Straight Edge Society" member Luke Gallows. The crowd was chanting "E-C-W... E-C-W!" from the get-go, and Gallows threatened to leave if they didn't stop, but he eventually relented and got into the ring. The match quickly turned into an all-out brawl, and spilled outside the ring, where chairs, metal trays, and even the ring bell were used as weapons. Gallows' brawling strength appeared to give him the advantage, and after putting Dreamer into a drop-toe-hold onto a chair, it appeared that Gallows might get the victory. But Dreamer kicked the chair into Gallows' face, and then nailed Gallows with his old DDT-onto-the-chair finisher and got the three-count. A weary and headachy Gallows promised he would get his revenge when the two met again the following night.
Saturday night January 29th, National Wrestling Superstars held the second show of their 2011 kickoff double-shot weekend at their popular Jersey Shore venue, the Brick, NJ Elks Lodge. A huge crowd was on hand, only a few bodies shy of a complete sellout (an improvement over recent wrestling attendance trends for which NWS is extremely grateful), and their energy and excitement added to a hot night of pro wrestling for all.
    • In the opening contest, NWS Heavyweight Champion Ray Ray Marz retained his title against number-one challenger Steve "Rampage" Rogers. A determined Rogers was intent on spoiling Marz' first title defense in front of Marz' hometown fans, and took the fight to the champion, but it was not enough. After Marz withstood an armbar submission, he escaped from Rogers' superplex attempt with a flying knee, then hit Rogers with a series of flying leg shots, finishing him off with a running knee to the head which gave him the 1-2-3 victory.
    • In six-man tag-team action, former NWS Cruiserweight Champion Jumping Joey Janela & A.C. Kewl & Bobby Youngblood defeated NWS Tag-Team Champions The Jersey Shore Jocks (Mike Dennis & Chris D'Andrea) & their partner Slayer. The Jocks and Slayer appeared to be in control early in the match, but their opponents withstood the early action and kept the match even. Towards the end, it appeared as if Slayer would get the victory for his team, as he hit his acid-drop bulldog finisher on Kewl. But Youngblood and Janela distracted the referee and Slayer by attacking The Jocks from the outside, and when Slayer tried to go after Janela, Kewl rolled him up from behind with a schoolboy and a handful of tights and got the 1-2-3 victory, Kewl and his teammates gave props to their opponents for a tough match, and challenged them to a rematch when NWS returns to nearby Island Heights, NJ next month, where falls count anywhere. The Jocks and Slayer accepted.
    • A.C. Kewl then announced to the crowd that he was wearing a "317" armband to honor Lakewood, NJ Police Officer Christopher Matlosz, who had been murdered in the line of duty two weeks earlier, and who Kewl revealed was his step-brother. The wrestlers and fans all stood for a moment of silence as a ceremonial ten-bell salute was rung to honor Officer Matlosz.
    • In a rematch from the previous night, Danny Inferno (with manager Gigalo Joe Jones & former WWE star Luke Gallows) once again defeated "Atomic Dog" Ali. Before the match, Gallows had Inferno and Jones take the "Straight Edge Oath" and proclaimed them as members of the "Straight Edge Brothers." Inferno was nowhere near as anxious, however, to get in the ring with Atomic Dog. Ali held the early advantage, but after a trip-up by Gallows on the outside, Inferno worked over Ali for several minutes. But Ali powered back, and after a huge flying shoulder tackle and several JYD-style headbutts,Ali had him reeling, and after a huge powerslam appeared to have him down for the count. But Gallows leaped up on the apron to break up the count, and when Ali went over to deal with Gallows, Inferno snuck up behind Ali and leveled him with a Flatliner DDT and covered him for the 1-2-3. Gallows claimed he would be victorious later on when he faced former ECW hardcore icon Tommy Dreamer in the main event.
    • In a tag-team grudge match signed at the last Brick event, Barrio Bad Boy Tino & Father Ozzie defeated "Mr. Entertainment" J.D. Smoothie & "Canadian Hockey Goon" Rocco Dorsey, with "The Bounty Hunter" Johnny Ringo as special guest referee. The more experienced Smoothie and Dorsey dominated the match early, but their pin attempts were frustrated by what appeared to be "cautiously slow" counts from Johnny Ringo, who was apparently still carrying a grudge from what took place at the last Brick show. After another Dorsey pin attempt on Ozzie failed, allowing Tino to tag-in and clean house, Dorsey got fed up with Ringo and started shoving him. But the former police officer turned bounty hunter was not intimidated and shoved Dorsey right back, right into a rollup by Tino, for which Ringo dispensed with slow caution and counted the quick 1-2-3 for Tino. If Dorsey was only angry before, he was positively livid now, and he went straight after Ringo and the two started brawling all over the ring. It took the entire cadre of NWS referees and Security staff to separate the two. Commissioner Moore announced that next month, in nearby Island Heights, not only would Smoothie and Tino have a one-on-one match, but Dorsey would have a one-on-one match against Ringo who would be making his NWS wrestling debut that night, and Father Ozzie would be the special referee.
    • In a tag-team match billed as "Tribe Vs. Tribe", Nigerian Nightmare La-Fu & Nigerian Heavyweight Wrestling Champion Power Uti (subbing for La-Fu's partner who was mourning a death in the family) defeated The Island Assault Squad (former WWE star Manu & fellow Samoan Tupu). The four big men had a powerhouse brawl all over the ring, punctuated by La-Fu's powerslamming of Manu, Manu and Tupu together executing an overhead suplex on La-Fu (which strained the ring reinforcements to their limit), and Manu actually hitting a Samoan Drop on La-Fu. But Uti saved his partner and cleaned house on both Samoans, leveling Tupu with a huge flying shoulder tackle and getting the 1-2-3 pin.
    • In the main event, also a "Straight Edge Vs. Hardcore" rematch from the previous night, former ECW hardcore Tommy Dreamer defeated former WWE star Luke Gallows (with manager Gigalo Joe Jones & Danny Inferno). Before the match started, Commissioner Moore sent Inferno back to the locker room as Gallows' contract only allowed him to have a manager in his corner. The pro-ECW crowd was chanting for tables and chairs, prompting Gallows and Jones to insist that they were not in the contract either. Dreamer then took the microphone and said he wanted to give the NWS fans what they really wanted, and asked Commissioner Moore to make the match Anything Goes and Falls Count Anywhere. Commissioner Moore agreed, and to the roar of the crowd the match was on. The match lived up to its billing, quickly escalating to an all-out brawl, and spilling out of the ring onto the floor, and even briefly outside the building in the equipment truck in the parking lot. Every available weapon came into play... chairs, metal trays, the ring bell, and even Nigerian Nightmare La-Fu's ceremonial staff. Dreamer held the advantage early, but Gallows showed he could wrestle hardcore when necessary and battled back, leveling Dreamer with chair shots of his own. But when Gallows missed a flying splash from the top, Dreamer battled back with punches and clotheslines. After a bulldog from Dreamer seemed to have Gallows primed for defeat, Danny Inferno returned to ringside to aid his "Straight Edge Brothers" teammate. But before he could get in the ring, "Atomic Dog" Ali came out and pulled Inferno off the ring apron and beat him up on the outside. Back in the ring, Gallows drop-toe-hold'ed Dreamer onto a chair, and then attempted to flatten Dreamer in the corner with a chair-first avalanche. But Dreamer kicked the chair into Gallows' face, and then planted Gallows into the mat with his DDT, getting the three-count. While Dreamer celebrated with the fans, Jones took the microphone and started chewing out Inferno for not following through on their "plan". Inferno put the blame on "Atomic Dog" Ali for interfering, and challenged him to a rematch. Commissioner Moore said he had an even better idea... at the show in Island Heights next month, Inferno would team up with one-time ECW brawler The Equalizer in the main event, against Ali and his partner, former WWE star and Hall-of-Famer "El Matador" Tito Santana!
