Steel Cage Mania, An NWS Veteran Returns, A WWE TV Legend Makes A Surprise Appearance, And More
Hello NWS fans! This is your weekly update on what's happened, what is happening now, and what is going to happen soon in the nation's leading family-friendly pro wrestling promotion, National Wrestling Superstars.
Upcoming Shows This Weekend
This Friday night March 25th, NWS debuts at the South Amboy, NJ Middle & High School Gym (200 Governor Harold G. Hoffman Plaza, just off Bordentown Avenue & Broadway, minutes from Routes 9 and 35), with a 7:45pm bell time.
And this show will be headlined by a pair of TV wrestling legends. First off, the arrogant former ECW & TNA star Julio Dinero will be making a rare central Jersey appearance, accompanied by Miss Michelle, his lovely and devious manager. And making his first-ever appearance for NWS is a former WWE Intercontinental, Tag-Team, and United States Champion, "The Gold Standard" himself, the great Shelton Benjamin will step between the ropes and compete for NWS. If you ever watched Shelton on TV (or even if you haven't), you need to come see this man perform.
And speaking of champions, the champions of NWS will put their titles on the line in South Amboy. NWS Tag-Team Champions The Jersey Shore Jocks (Mike Dennis & Chris D'Andrea) will defend their titles against the duo who nearly dethroned them in Keyport last month, "Corrupted" Corey Havoc & "The Love Machine" Nicky Oceans. NWS Heavyweight Champion Steve "Rampage" Rogers will defend his title in a rematch against the former champion he defeated for the belt, Ray Ray Marz. And, just announced, NWS Cruiserweight Champion Spyral will defend the belt against not just one challenger, but two, both former champions themselves, Jumping Joey Janela, and "Mr. Entertainment" J.D. Smoothie.
Other regional and local pro mat stars appearing include The World Famous TV Wrestling Clown, Canada's J.T. Highlander, Chris Banks, plus special guest managers.
Tickets are only $20 for ringside seats and $18 for bleachers.
Tickets are available by calling the NWS box office at (732) 888-1704. Remaining seats, if any, will go on sale at the door one hour before bell time.
Results From Last Weekend
National Wrestling Superstars returned to the Jersey Shore on Friday night March 18th with their first show ever at the brand new Bucky James Community Center in Long Branch, NJ. The Long Branch area fans have always given NWS a great reception and this night was no exception, as a huge crowd (definitely exceeding expectations) turned out to cheer on all the action.
- The opening contest, a non-title triple-threat match, saw Chikara Wrestling star Frightmare defeat Jumping Joey Janela and NWS Cruiserweight Champion Spyral. This match saw three of NWS' best high-fliers doing just that - flying all over the ring and frequently outside it. The match had a bizarre ending. After tossing Frightmare out of the ring, Janela and Spyral battled one-on-one. After hitting a flying drop-kick, Janela went to the top rope for a moonsault, but Spyral knocked him down and left him hanging upside down in the corner, then climbed to the top of the opposite corner and delivered a huge Van-Daminator all the way across the ring. But instead of going for the pinfall, Spyral went outside and threw Frightmare back in the ring and took a seat on the outside. Frightmare seized the opportunity and hit a standing moonsault on Janela and covered him for the 1-2-3. While Frightmare was reveling in his victory, Spyral returned to the ring and attacked Frightmare. Spyral seized the microphone and told Frightmare that he had given him a gift tonight, but when they meet one-on-one in Manville, NJ in early May with the title on the line, he won't be so generous.
- In a wild one-on-one matchup, The Jersey Kidd (with "bodyguard" Evil T.N.T and "career advisors" Danny Demanto & former ECW star Danny Doring) defeated "Retro Rocker" Ricky Roxx. Doring and Demanto took the microphone and insulted the Long Branch fans, until Commissioner Moore interrupted them and told them that they weren't in the contract to be in The Kidd's corner, and sent them back to the locker room. The Kidd and Roxx battled back and forth, with neither man having a huge advantage, and T.N.T getting in cheap shots whenever possible. Towards the end, Roxx stormed back with a flurry of dropkicks and clotheslines, ending it with a tremendous DDT, and was poised to deliver a finishing superkick. But before he deliver it, Demanto and Doring returned to ringside. While the referee was distracted trying to keep them from entering the ring, T.N.T took advantage and entered the ring himself. When Roxx tried to superkick T.N.T back out of the ring, T.N.T blocked it and delivered his devastating chokeslam to Roxx. The Kidd then covered Roxx as the now-undistracted referee made the easy 1-2-3.
- In tag-team action, the team of NWS Junior Heavyweight Champion "The Love Machine" Nicky Oceans & "Mr. Entertainment" J.D. Smoothie defeated the debuting team from Scotland of Kidd Fite & "Unstoppable" Andy Wild. The veterans Oceans & Smoothie attacked early, but the energetic Scottish duo made for an intense battle all over the ring, andfrequently outside. Fite and Wild impressed the crowd, and towards the end had the match going in their favor, as Wild leveled Oceans with a flying dropkick and Fite put down Smoothie with a flying knee.and a backcracker. But the enthusiasm of Fite and Wild proved to be their undoing, as their attempts to double-team clothesline Smoothie and Oceans ended with both of them ducking and the two teammates colliding with each other. Fite and Wild started shoving and shouting at each other outside the ring, which quickly broke down into a huge brawl. The referee began a ten-count, and when he reached ten he counted out Fite & Wild and declared Smoothie & Oceans the winners. Fite and Wild continued to brawl until Commissioner Moore ordered them apart, and announced that Fite and Wild would settle their differences in the ring against each other in Stirling, NJ the next night.
- The much-anticipated "Referee Vs. Wrestler" showdown between Sargeant Jimmy Storm and "Corrupted" Corey Havoc (with bodyguard T.N.T in his corner) ended in a no-contest double-disqualification. When Storm ignored Havoc's warnings to leave before the match and not get hurt, Havoc started pounding on Storm early on, refusing to pin him in favor of adding more injury. But the Gulf War veteran Storm, with his family and friends cheering him on, withstood the assault, and after Havoc missed a flying elbow from the top rope, battled back. He leveled Havoc with running clotheslines, and even flew out of the ring to take out both Havoc and T.N.T. After Storm and Havoc brawled outside the ring (nearly getting counted out), T.N.T attacked Storm and threw him back into the ring. Havoc tried to put Storm down with a Sleeper Hold, but Storm fought out of it and put Havoc down with a sunset flip. But before the referee could count the pinfall, T.N.T ran into the ring and attacked the referee, chokeslamming him in the corner and then doing the same to Storm. T.N.T called for Danny Demanto and Danny Doring to come out, and Storm was assaulted four-on-one, until "Atomic Dog" Ali and former WWE hall-of-famer Tito Santana came out to chase the attackers away. Demanto and Doring promised to put Tito and Ali out for good in their main event match. Tito said let's get it on right now, and the fans agreed, but Doring and Demanto would never do what the fans liked, and said they would have to wait until the main event.
- In a three-on-two Handicap Tag-Team Match, The Nigerian Nightmares (La-Fu & White-Mare) defeated the trio of NWS Heavyweight Champion Steve "Rampage" Rogers & Team Thunder Horse (Indian Chief Draven & "The Warrior" Jack Spade), with manager/bodyguard T.N.T in their corner. At around 800 pounds The Nigerian duo out-sized their three opponents, and used that advantage to keep Rampage & Draven & Spade at bay early on, but they were able to double- and triple-team their opponents and keep them at bay, with Rogers and Draven even bodyslamming the pair of 400-pounders at one point. But they still could not keep La-Fu and White-Mare down for the three-count, and Rogers and Draven left the ring in frustration. Spade stood defiantly in the Nightmares' faces until he realized that his teammates were nowhere to be found. La-Fu leveled Spade with a Samoan Drop and White-Mare flattened him with a flying splash, leading to the easy 1-2-3.
- In the Main Event Tag-Team Match, former WWE hall of famer "El Matador" Tito Santana & "Atomic Dog" Ali defeated former ECW star "Dastardly" Danny Doring & "The Cold-Hearted Playa" Danny Demanto (with bodyguard T.N.T). Knowing from experience that they wanted no part of Tito, Demanto and Doring tried to concentrate their double-team attack on the Atomic Dog. But Ali withstood the assault, especially since they made the mistake of trying to ram his exceptionally hard head into the turnbuckle, and after ducking out of the way of moonsaults from both Demanto and Doring, he tagged in Tito, who cleaned house on both opponents and eventually flattened Demanto with a "Flying Burrito" and covered him for the 1-2-3. Ali got in a shot on his former rival T.N.T, and Tito added insult to injury (not to mention delight to the fans) as he further finished off Demanto with a low kick, and locked Doring in a post-match Figure-Four leglock.
National Wrestling Superstars concluded their double-show weekend by returning to Stirling, NJ's Long Hill Township Community Center on Saturday night March 19th with "Steel Cage Mania", as a large and loud crowd (once again exceeding expectations, to the delight of NWS management) surrounded the ring.
- In the opening contest, "Mr. Entertainment" J.D. Smoothie (with Danny Demanto in his corner) defeated The Jersey Kidd.
- In a return grudge match from the previous night, "Unstoppable" Andy Wilde defeated his one-time partner Kidd Fite by submission with a Boston Crab.
- In an inter-gender tag-team match (to give the fans a taste of the type of action in next month's NWS/WSU King And Queen Of The Ring Tournament) NWS Tag-Team Champion Jersey Shore Jocks member Mike Dennis & WSU Tag-Team Champion Bell Saints member Marti Belle defeated the team of NWS Junior Heavyweight Champion "The Love Machine" Nicky Oceans & Niya.
- NWS Heeavyweight Champion Steve "Rampage" Rogers ended up retaining his title against number-one challenger Jeff "Cannonball" Guerrero. Danny Demanto interfered in the match, hitting Rogers with a chain, allowing Guerrero to pin Rogers. Guerrero was initially declared the winner and new champion, but Demanto had apparently stuffed the chain into Guerrero's tights, and the referee discovered it and reversed the decision, disqualifying Guerrero and declaring Rogers still champion.
- As ring announcer Johnny Falco was telling the fans about intermission, Nicky Oceans and Mike Dennis, and Marti Belle and Niya, battled out of the locker room and into the crowd until security separated them.
- In the main event, former ECW hardcore icon "the homicidal suicidal genocidal" Sabu defeated "The Cold-Hearted Playa" Danny Demanto in a Steel Cage Match. Both referees were knocked out, and when referee Kenny Edwards was helped to his feet by Danny Demanto, Edwards only saw Demanto's feet on the floor and raised his hand in victory. However, former WWE TV legend, and soon-to-be Hall of Famer, "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan saw that Sabu's feet had landed on the floor first and told the referee to listen to the fans. With that, the decision was reversed and Sabu was awarded the victory.

Saturday April 2nd, NWS returns to Kearny, NJ's Presbyterian Boys & Girls Club (663 Kearny Avenue, minutes from Routes 21 & 280) for two huge blockbuster shows with sister all-ladies promotion, Women Superstars Uncensored.

One is the 2011 Women's J-Cup Tournament, a single-elimination tournament of the best lady wrestlers on the circuit today, battling for a valuable trophy, even more valuable bragging rights, and the most valuable prize of all, a shot at one of the most prestigious women's wrestling title belts around.
The other event, even more unique, is the 2011 King And Queen Of The Ring Tournament, where male and female wrestlers pair off into inter-gender tag-teams and compete in a one-night single elimination tournament, where the winning team proudly wear the crowns and are hailed as the true first couple of wrestling.

Plus another former WSU World Champion, and last year's J-Cup winner Alicia will be in Kearny, and Alicia has forgone the opportunity to compete in this year's tournament in order to have the opportunity to get her hands on Jessica Havok in a one-on-one matchup.
