03/20/2011 – Rampage Pro Wrestling TV Taping Live Report from 3/19
From Larry Goodman:
Rampage Pro Wrestling ran their biweekly television taping at Johnny G’s in Warner Robins featuring a title defense by NWA World Heavyweight Champion Colt Cabana.
Attendance was 175-200. As per usual these days, the crowd was into every angle and hot for every match, and with good reason. It was a fabulous taping -- clear, compelling stories and solid ringwork all night long. There were no clinkers and a lot of really good matches. It was a night of triumph for the top babyface acts. Although it ran three hours long, the evening flowed so well that time wasn’t an issue.
This was RPW’s final Saturday night taping. The April 2 taping will be at noon due to RPW’s involvement in the Dragon Gate USA show in Atlanta that night. Tapings move to Sunday afternoons starting April 16. It will be interesting to see if that affects attendance, being that the crowds on Saturday nights have been up since the first of the year.
Taped for RPW Rewind:
(1) Anthony Andrews beat Frankie Valentine via DQ in 8 minutes.
Andrews is fast becoming a quintessential undercard buffoon – a super sleazy type with a penchant for overloading that hummingbird rear end with his alligator mouth. Valentine’s calling cards were in evidence – heart, fire and smooth execution. Andrews got loads of offense. He had half a dozen near falls, about five too many for the story they were telling. It also would have helped if Andrews had sold larger for Valentines’ offense. In any case, TV Champion Jeremy Vain came out to observe. After Valentine got the advantage with a middle rope bulldog, Vain jumped up to cause distraction. Andrews grabbed his self-anointed “winner” trophy. Valentine took it away. Andrews went down like he had been shot. Referee Danny Starr saw Valentine holding the trophy and assumed the worst. It was the beginning of a night of heavy heat on the refs.
(2) Drew Adler beat Corey Hollis (with Jimmy Rave & Chip Day & Mike Posey) in 5:45.
Hollis has his heel mojo working now. Stuff like hiking up Adler’s tights so his ass was exposed when he tossed him out. Rave then knocked Adler down with a chop. Fans chanted “Jimmy’s scared of Kyle” at Rave. Adler made a monster comeback. He hit an Air Raid Crash that fans semi-believed as a finish. Posey tried to interfere. Adler clobbered him. Rave and Day got involved. Adler caused them to collide and scored the pin. The fans popped huge for Adler scoring the big upset. It was the right time and done the right way.
Postmatch, Rave Approved put a beating on Adler. Sal Rinauro and Michael Stevens made the save. Rinauro said it was “time for papa to come back to what I do best”. The fans were really into Sal here. Rinauro said he and his protégés would take on any three of the Rave Approved Rejects later in the evening.
Taped for Rampage Pro Wrestling TV airing on March 26:
(3) Dr. Johnny Gayton & Mr. Jones beat The Judge & Bobby Moore (with Charlie Cash & JT Smooth) via DQ in 9:40.
Before the match, Cash squawked about how Gayton assaulted him at the last show and nobody did nothing about it. I’ve never seen Cash so enraged. The babyface team abused Moore. Mr. Jones was going at it like he meant business. The heels got heat on Gayton after a shoulderbreaker by Judge. Gayton hit a stunner to set up the hot tag, which meant more punishment for Moore. Smooth (wearing his spiffiest caddie outfit ever) pulled Moore out when Jones went for the big splash. Jones decked Smooth and was about to splash him, but Moore spoiled the moment with a flying bulldog on Jones. Gayton then had Moore up for the Samoan Drop, but Judge locked on the claw hold and refused to let up. Fans chanted “we want Sal” until they got what they wanted. Rinauro, Adler and Stevens made the save. Gayton was left in bad shape once again.
(4) Kyle Matthews beat Adrian Hawkins via submission in 9 minutes.
Rave was watching from the ramp. A furious back and forth ending with simultaneous missed dropkicks picked up the crowd. Matthews got distracted by Rave’s presence and Hawkins pounced on the opening (Rave has been seeking Hawkins’ services. They may as well turn him. Since he came up short in his quest for the TV title, he’s stillborn as a babyface). Rave exited to the back. Hawkins worked on the leg. He got the figure four but Matthew reversed it. Matthews popped the crowd with a stellar sequence of moves capped off with a superkick. Hawkins cut Matthews off and hit a german suplex for a near fall. But when Hawkins tried for his springboard back elbow, Matthews met him with a dropkick. Matthews went right to the octopus and Hawkins tapped pronto.
(5) Rave Approved (Chip Day & Mike Posey & Corey Hollis) beat Sal Rinauro & Drew Adler & Michael Stevens in 11:30.
The highlight of the shine was a triple vertical suplex spot. Hollis made a blind tag and clubbed Rinauro from behind. Rinauro became the babyface-in-peril. Posey and Day had a leg drop party on poor Sal. The amazing crowd love for Rinauro continued. Stevens ran wild with the hot tag. Then Adler ran wilder yet. He had Posey pinned with a bridging Northern light suplex. That was broken up leading to six way action and a collision of heels. Rave Approved bailed. Stevens got ahead of himself with a dive attempt. It was crash and burn city. Rave Approved did a number on Sal as well. Back inside the ring, Hollis destroyed Adler with a killer gutwrench backcracker. Rave Approved hit a round of top rope moves finishing with Posey’s guillotine legdrop for the pin. One hell of a hectic finish and it worked great.
(6) Usual Suspects (Murder One & AJ Steele) beat Hate Junkies (Dany Only & Stryknyn with Charlie Cash & JT Smooth) to retain the RPW Tag Team Championship in 13 minutes.
Suspects dished out a wicked Dark City style mugging on the Junkies. Junkies sold it great, not that they had much choice in the matter. At one point, Steele got Stryknyn’s back and pounded him in the back of the head. Now there’s something you’re NOT going to see in MMA. Only clipped Steele’s knee to turn the tide. Referee Dustin Robinson missed a legal tag due to Junkie’s shenanigans, and Murder got all amped up about it. Fans were chanting “hit the ref”. Tremendous heat for such a standard spot. Murder was the black Superman with the hot tag. A decapitation clothesline on Only was followed with the RKO. Stryknyn made the save, Junkies hit their high-low combo but Murder kicked out of the pin. Junkies tried to set Murder’s face on fire again, but Stryknyn’s fireball hit Only instead. Suspects then hit the Violator 420 on Stryknyn with Murder getting the pin.
Taped for Rampage Pro Wrestling TV airing on April 2:
(7) Jeremy Vain retained the RPW TV Title over Frankie Valentine by getting DQed at 9:40.
Vain got a “paper champion” chant. Valentine brought Vain in the hardway and reeled off a spectacular flurry. In desperation, Vain used Valentine’s momentum to toss him through the ropes. Vain worked Valentine over and kept him off his feet. Valentine came back with a series of pinning combinations. Vain went to slug Valentine, who ducked and ref Danny Starr ate it. Valentine then hit his finisher to pin Vain with referee Stanley Robinson making the count. Geez, two refs named Robinson and two wrestlers named Jones in the same promotion. Starr ruled it a DQ, Valentine was irate and we had another “hit the ref” chant.
(8) Bull Buchanan (with Kyle Matthews) beat Jimmy Rave in 12 minutes.
Buchanan has been in a tweener of sorts, but the fans hate Rave with a passion, so Buchanan was total babyface here. Rave got a taste of Bull’s power and found it not one bit to his liking. Buchanan then showed astounding agility on a leapfrog/dropkick combo. Buchanan was brutalizing Rave at ringside, but Rave ducked a punch and Bull hit the wall. Rave was all over Buchanan’s injured hand. Buchanan reinjured his hand punching Rave’s face. Buchanan started destroying Rave with power moves instead. That’s’ when Rave’s minions showed up. Hollis blindsided Matthews. Posey and Day pestered Buchanan. He fought them off but the delay gave Rave an opening for a superplex. Buchanan kicked out of the pin. More shenanigans from Rave’s crew ensued. Posey ate a punch coming off the top and did that ever look great. Buchanan took Hollis’ head off with a lariat. Day connected with a tornado kick and dumped Buchanan. While the ref was busy with Bull, Matthews played turnabout with a Slurpee Kick on Rave. Buchanan followed with a lariat from hell for the pin. It reads like it was too much outside interference to be believable, but the ring positioning and timing made it work.
(9) Colt Cabana retained the NWA World Heavyweight Champion vs. RPW Heavyweight Champion J-Rod when the match was declared a no contest due to outside interference at the five minute mark.
The crowd was behind their boy J-Rod, but Cabana was too damn entertaining and far too talented for the fans to root against him. The RPW crowd knows and appreciates a great wrestler when they see one. Cabana was making J-Rod’s head spin with all the old British style chain wrestling. They did the back and forth pin attempts. Just as J-Rod swept Cabana’s leg to get theadvantage, he was attacked by Hot Like Lava (Cru Jones & Shaun Banks). Cabana came to J-Rod’s rescue swinging a steel chair.
Cabana wanted to restart the match. Rinauro came out talking on his cell phone. He said NWA Executive Director Bob Trobich would only allow one world title match, so his hands were tied. However, he did have the authority to order a tag match. RPW just did a singles match morphed into a tag match deal last month, but rather than reacting like they had been screwed, fans were totally fine with this outcome. The heat was transferred to Lava not the promotion. The RPW fans seem to be in a state of perpetual suspension of disbelief where they’re willing to roll with just about anything,
(10) Colt Cabana & J-Rod defeated Hot Like Lava (Cru Jones & Shaun Banks) in 10 minutes.
Cabana & J-Rod dragged Lava back into the ring and proceeded to beat their asses. The busted out the row boat spot to great effect. Cru capitalized on a blind tag to get heat on J-Rod. A series of screw ups lead to Lava’s downfall. They had J-Rod up for the Lava Drop when Cabana foiled it by tripping Cru and J-Rod pinned Banks.
The show closed with Cabana raising J-Rod’s hand and putting RPW over.

NWA CHATTANOOGA
NWA Championship Wrestling (Chattanooga) 3-18-11
Attendance was approx: 130
1) Kyle Matthews def Slim J in a blow away opening match up. After the match Matthews showed J respect for a hard fought bout, with the fans starting to warm up to the "Technical Machine"
2) Drew Delight defeated Micah Hughes via pinfall with a fireman's carry driver.
3) Chrisjen Hayme defeated Jacob Ashworth (subbing for an injured Patrick Bentley), Bentley was in attendance and stated his doctors had cleared him to return to the ring on 4/15, where he and Hayme WILL meet one on one for the first time.
4) Ace Rockwell vs. Andrew Alexander went to a 20 minute time limit draw, with no clear winner still determined in this series, and their record against each other now a 1-1-1 stalemate. What turned out to be a scientific wrestling masterpiece of a match between two bitter rivals, somehow turned out to be the least important detail of this encounter. After the match Ace Rockwell said he wouldn't quit until he settled the score and asked Alexander for 5 more minutes. Alexander said no, (quite an unpopular decision with the fans of Soddy Daisy) and went to the dressing room- or so we thought. As Rockwell was making his way up the ramp Alexander blindsided him in the back of the head with a pair of handcuffs. He then threw Rockwell in the ring and leveled him with the Rodeo Driver (Piledriver), As if that wasn't enough he handcuffed the unconscious Rockwell to the ropes, grabbed a steel chair, and was prepared to cave in Ace Rockwell's skull when a commotion occurred in the audience, as a fan tried to jump the rail and was restrained by security. During this commotion, ANOTHER fan (in his 50's) took advantage of the situation and got to the ring. Alexander showed no mercy, piledriving this poor man...The locker room then cleared to run Alexander out of the building. When Rockwell regained consciousness we found out that these weren't two ordinary fans at all. It was Ace Rockwell's family. His brother Jordan being the first fan who was stopped by security, and his father Tim being the unfortunate soul who may have had his neck broken at the hands of Andrew Alexander.....and he did it right in front of Ace Rockwell, and there was nothing he could do about it. Security and paramedics carried Rockwell's father away on a stretcher in a neck brace. The NWA Board of Directors have requested copies of all angles of the film to review this highly controversial incident. We are told that some sort of disciplinary action will be taken against Alexander on 4/15 for his actions.
5) The Hellbillies (Jessco Blue & Nick "Hoss" Young) defeated Shaun Tempers/Seven, The Hate Junkies, and the team of Adam Jacobs & Corey Hollis in the first ever March Madness match to earn a shot at NWA World Tag Team Champions The Dark City Fight Club on 4/15. Order of elimination, 1- Jacobs/Hollis (Jacobs pinned by Tempers after The Rev's interference) 2- Hate Junkies (eliminated by DQ for ignoring the referee's count) 3 - Tempers/Seven (Tempers pinned by Blue after Adam Jacobs returned the favor....appearing with a bottle of "Temptation For Men", and trying to "freshen up" The Rev..providing the distraction Blue needed to capitalize)
6) Tank defeated Jimmy Rave via DQ to retain the NWA Southeastern Heavyweight Championship. Fantastic main event until the ending. Rave threw everything but the kitchen sink at the "Strong Style Psycho", but couldn't put him away. Tank then took control of the match and it looked as though victory was within his grasp when he had Rave hooked for the chokebreaker, but Rave's cunning and skill allowed him to escape. Rave deciding he'd had enough, leveled the 375 lbs champion with a low blow right in front of the referee. Then he had the audacity to make his own 3 count and proclaim himself the champion! Announcer Scott Hensley informed him the title doesn't change hands on a DQ. Rave pointed out that Tank still reeling on the ground, didn't look like a winner, so fine, he deserved a rematch then. Hensley informed Rave that also wasn't in his plans....but that he had earned the right to face former friend now bitter enemy Kyle Matthews 1 on 1 on 4/15 to become the #1 contender. Rave was not pleased with the result, but let everyone know he'd go through Matthews or anyone else placed in front of him.

WoW Wrestling
WoW Texas shattered their previous month's attendance record, as there were well over 300 people in attendance for their "Spring Slampede" event at the Cypress VFW.
Once again, 5 Guys Burgers & Fries sponsored the pre-show match, which was a 5 Guys Burger Battle. This month it featured Bolt Brady, Shawn Houston, "Primetime" Ricky Douglas, Mike Fyre, and the unknown Zordoff. Both Brady and Douglas have their own history, as they faced each other last month to become #1 Contender for the WoW Cruiserweight Championship. However any hopes they had of winning the match were dashed when they simultaneously eliminated each other. Zordoff was the next one to go, as he was launched over the top rope. With Fyre clinging to the ring apron, Houston hit a baseball slide into Fyre and claiming the victory in the 5 Guys Burger Battle.
"Spring Slampede" kicked off with the WoW Women's Title on the line, as Barbi Hayden put the title up against Jen-Alise and Simply Luscious in a 3-Way Dance. This would eventually prove to be more of a handicap match, as the challengers spent the majority of the match double-teaming Barbi. Jen-Alise was moments away from becoming champion, but was abruptly stopped by Luscious. Jen hit Barbi with a spinning bulldog, but when she went for the pin Luscious pulled her off to keep her from getting the win. Jen got up and shoved Luscious down, allowing Barbi to sneak up and roll Jen-Alise up to successfully retain the WoW Women's Championship.
After the match, "Showtime" Scot Summers hit the ring and settled Jen and Luscious down. He told them they needed to focus on the common goal, which seems to be the Women's Title and eliminating Barbi Hayden from the WoW picture. Summers then focused his attention to ring announcer Tony Brooklyn and handed him a list of matches for the night. He then ordered Brooklyn to read them to the full house in Cypress. Brooklyn then announced that DJ King would be facing the returning "Ruthless Ryan Davidson. He also mentioned that Jaykus Plisken would be facing Ryan Genesis. When asked why Chaz Taylor wasn't on the card, Summers simply replied, "Don't worry about him, he's taken care of."
The second match of the night would feature the return of former WoW Heavyweight Champion "Ruthless" Ryan Davidson, as he faced "The Texas Torture Machine" DJ King. Davidson grabbed the mic and told that fans that much like the Psycho Circus does now, at one time he used to own the ring. He made mention that he was one of the longest-reigning champions in WoW history, then said the Circus was in full control and there wasn't anything the fans could do about it. This brought out DJ King, and the match was on. This was a back and forth contest most of the way, but Davidson took a risk that ultimately cost him. After putting King on the mat with a vicious clothesline, Davidson took to the top turnbuckle. However when he launched himself from the air, King moved out of the way. He rolled up Davidson and picked up the victory.
Tony Brooklyn then confronted DJ after the match, looking for an explanation as to his whereabouts last month and why he missed a golden opportunity at the WoW Heavyweight Championship. DJ said he received a phone call from Silky Baines, saying their mom had been in an accident in San Antonio and was in bad shape. He dropped everything and drove to see her. But upon his arrival, he found out the entire thing was a hoax and he missed the match. For DJ King, does this mean he will have to climb the ladder and start all over in his quest to dethrone Scot Summers for the WoW Heavyweight Championship?
Speaking of "Benchmark" Silky Baines, he was on deck to defend the WoW Outlaw Title against Hambone. Fans will remember a month ago that Summers, who has assumed General Manager duties for the company, sidelined Hambone and basically made him sell merchandise instead of being in the ring. Tony Brooklyn announced that all Outlaw Title matches were No-DQ. Hambone and Baines took full advantage of this, using everything but the kitchen sink in the match. They used chairs, ladders, chains, and Hambone found himself handcuffed to the ropes at one point, as Silky poured out an all out assuault. Hambone would break free however, and put the champion down with a devastating powerbomb that could've easily injured the champion, given he was dropped on the back of his head. However the comeback was short-lived. As Hambone went for a jawbreaker out of the corner, Silky maneuvered out of it and hit two thunderous Diamond Cutters for the victory. Silky retains the WoW
Outlaw Championship.
Among the matches that Scot Summers made for the night, he opted to defend the WoW Heavyweight Championship against "Backdraft" Chris Lee. When Tony Brooklyn asked Summers why it wasn't against Chaz, DJ, or even Jaykus Plisken (who is the current #1 Contender to the title), Summers said that he chose Lee because he was the winner of the 5 Guys Burger Battle last month at "Valentine's Vengeance." Summers jumped Lee at the bell and spent the majority of the first part of the match in full control. Lee couldn't get any offense going in the opening minutes. "One Man" Mike Dell was at ringside in Summers' corner and was a constant distraction throughout. Lee would get back into the match and get some offense in. As Summers was making a pin attempt, Lee rolled through and nearly got an upset submission victory. But Dell made his presence felt. Lee found himself on the outside of the ring, and getting suplexed on the floor by Dell. This made him an easy target
for Summers, who locked him in a rear choke submission for the victory.
Following the win, Summers grabbed a sign from the crowd that read "Charlie Sheen Runs The Psycho Circus!" and proceeded to use a staple gun to put the sign on Lee's back. This brought out Team WoW, as Chaz and DJ King hit the ring to make the save. Chaz told Summers to be careful and not to underestimate him. The ribs of Chaz were heavily taped, which he revealed that was done by the Circus recently. He said they blindsided him and left him battered and beaten. That's when he told Summers to start watching his back and not to underestimate him.
Once the crowd settled down from that match, Jaykus Plisken was set to face one of the newer recruits of the Psycho Circus in WoW Cruiserweight Champion Ryan Genesis. Tony Brooklyn announced that this was a non-title match. Genesis wanted no part of Jaykus in the early going, sliding out of the ring every time Jaykus got anywhere near him. Jaykus had finally had enough and gave chase to Genesis. But when he followed Genesis back into the ring, Genesis attacked him and began laying the boots into him. Genesis spent the opening part of match in control, keeping Jaykus grounded with everything from bodyslams to back suplexes. His mistake came after he hit a spinebuster slam in the middle of the ring. He began taunting the crowd, which gave Jaykus the chance to roll up Genesis for the win. After the match, The Psycho Circus came out and surrounded Jaykus. However before anything broke out, Summers called off the troops and they slowly back away.
This left the crowd ready for the main event, featuring NWA Texas and WoW Tag Team Champions, Impeccable (Ken Carson & Joey Diamond), defending the WoW Tag Titles against Psycho Circus members Mike Dell and David Stahr. Conspicuous by her absence was Barbi Hayden, who usually accompanies Impeccable to the ring. Dell grabbed the mic, got in Ken Carson's face and told him the reason she wasn't at ringside was because she couldn't handle staring at him all night. This infuriated Carson, who subsequently threw Dell over the top rope and caused him to land headfirst on the floor. Scot Summers came to the ring, appearing to check on Dell but began directing traffic for the Circus. Once things settled down, this was a classic match between both sides. When one team would have the offense, they used quick tags to stay fresh and keep their opponent isolated and unable to make a tag. Both sides would do this throughout. However in the end, it was Mike Dell
throwing the celebration. He hit a top rope elbow drop on Joey Diamond, and getting the pin for the Circus. In shocking fashion, Mike Dell and David Stahr are your NEW WoW Tag Team Chamions!
Following the match, the entire Circus got in the ring and celebrated as they now have started to monopolize the title picture. The only WoW Championship they do not possess is the WoW Women's Championship, currently held by Barbi Hayden. However the celebration was short-lived. It was announced by Tony Brooklyn that due to his recaent actions and behavior, Ryan Genesis had been officially SUSPENDED by WoW management!. The Psycho Circus was enraged by this, as Genesis was one of the surprise entries to the group last month, when he and Mike Dell turned on WoW after they were brought into to try to reason with the Circus.
This is going to make things very interesting, as WoW heads to their next event. April 8 is the date for "April's Fools" which will be held at the Cypress VFW, located at 21902 Highway 290 (Northwest Freeway) in Cypress, Texas. The pre-show begins at 7:30, with belltime set for 8pm. Check out the WoW Website and the WoW Facebook page for more information for the next show.
