PWO: PWO STAR AND FIRST-EVER PWO CHAMPION MATT CROSS APPEARS AS CAST MEMBER ON WWE’s USA NETWORK REALITY SERIES “TOUGH ENOUGH”
WWE Inc.’s new reality series, the re-launching of “Tough Enough”, officially premiered this past Monday night shortly after 11:00 pm EST on the USA Network. The series was highlighted by a number of young aspiring hopefuls chasing the goal of a WWE contract, many of them having prior experience on the independent wrestling scene. None, however, bring the athleticism, notoriety or track record that PWO (Pro Wrestling Ohio) star “M-Dogg 20” Matt Cross, real name Matt Capiccioni, brings to the table.
Matt has been an athlete his entire life, scoring success at a young age as an AAU Junior Gymnastics Champion and United States Olympic Team alternate. This background helped prepare Matt for a career in the ring, having the ability to perform amazing physical feats of strength, balance, and conditioning that most others could only dream of. Matt’s wrestling career has taken him to over a dozen countries, nearly every U.S state, countless DVDs and television shows, and even a video game. But for the past three and a half years, Matt, a native of Cleveland, Ohio, has called PWO Wrestling home.
When PWO formed in October 2007, Matt was one of the very first additions to the PWO roster of wrestlers. With his combination of youth, experience, athleticism and enthusiasm, Matt instantly became a crowd favorite and began a rivalry with long-time partner/rival Josh Prohibition and the newest major star to come from the area, Johnny Gargano. Along with their valet, Ashley Lane (better known as TNA’s Madison Rayne), the trio made life miserable for Matt, putting him out of action with numerous injuries. However, Matt triumphantly returned at PWO’s first-annual super card, Wrestlelution, to defeat Prohibition and in the process be named PWO’s first-ever champion. Matt reigned proudly as the best wrestler in his home-state and beyond for eight months, before Prohibition hatched a scheme to steal the title from Cross. Once Prohibition was then defeated by Gargano, Matt began heavy pursuit of Gargano for a rematch for a title he felt he never should have lost, leading to a year-long game of psychological warfare culminating in this past summer’s “PWO Wrestlelution 3: A Defining Moment” supercard. The bad blood between Matt and Gargano continues to this day.
Stars such as Matt, Gargano, and countless others like them can be seen on PWO TV, airing every Sunday night at 10:00 PM EST on SportsTime Ohio.
