BELLATOR FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 44 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 5/12/2011 5:38 PM
We are nearing the end of an excellent season four from Bellator Fighting Championships, but event number forty four features an excellent preliminary card. The un-aired preliminary card will feature a former UFC competitor and a few other highly touted MMA fighters. Also, the local main event winner could potentially find himself in the Bellator season five welterweight tournament.

Kicking off the card is a middleweight encounter as Gemiyale “Jimmy” Adkins (6-1-0) takes on UFC veteran Jay Silva (6-4-0). Gemiyale Adkins is coming off the first loss of his professional MMA career, which was to LeVon Maynard at Matrix Fights 4. Jay Silva has fought twice in the UFC, which were both losing efforts to TUF alumni Chris Leben and CB Dollaway. This fight is going to be a battle of two strikers and Jay Silva will be clobbering his way to a respectable seventh victory.

Heavyweights will be stepping into the cage next as Randy “The Wolf” Smith (11-8-1) faces Azunna “Zulu” Anyanwu (3-0-0). Randy Smith has lost three of his last four fights and hasn’t achieved an MMA victory in well over a year. Azunna Anyanwu is a relative rookie in professional MMA, but has won two fights in the Northeast based Matrix Fights promotion. Despite his massive experience advantage, Randy Smith will be falling victim to Azunna Anyanwu on Saturday Night.

Up next is a featherweight attraction as Anthony Leone (8-3-0) will be going to battle against Jeff Lentz (6-2-0). Anthony Leone enters this fight on a three fight losing streak, which included fights in both the WEC and Strikeforce. Jeff Lentz is a veteran of the Ring Of Combat promotion, where he once fought WEC veteran Anthony Morrison. This is going to be a battle between a striker and a grappler, which is going to be won by the grappler in Anthony Leone.

Headlining the preliminary card is a welterweight affair as Giedrius Karavackas (4-1-0) goes head to head with Sam Oropeza (5-1-0). Giedrius Karavackas has spent the majority of his career in the Ring Of Combat promotion, where he won three of four fights. Sam Oropeza is coming off an appearance in Strikeforce, where he defeated Don Carlos-Clauss by submission. This fight is an important one for the upcoming season five and Sam Oropeza will be walking away victorious.
