FIVE ROUNDS WITH THE UFC ULTIMATE FIGHTER 13 FINALE

By David Tees on 6/14/2011 6:51 PM
Two weeks ago, the UFC commenced the thirteenth season of the UFC Ultimate Fighter with a new champion in the reality shows welterweight division. Also, a new contender was crowned in the lightweight division and a TUF alumni made a successful UFC return. On a side note, I apologize for putting this up so late, but I had back surgery recently and was bed ridden for a period of time.

Round One: Welcome To The UFC, Tony Ferguson!

In just under five minutes into their fight, Tony Ferguson made history by become the champion of the thirteenth season of the UFC Ultimate Fighter. Tony Ferguson has since stated that he may drop to lightweight. Which could be a mistake considering how deep the division currently is. Tony Ferguson should keep himself in the welterweight division, because the road to Georges St. Pierre has less bumps. One must also keep an eye out for Ramsey Nijem, who still has a bright future ahead of him as a professional MMA fighter.

Next Round For Tony Ferguson: Amir Sadollah

Next Round For Ramsey Nijem: Chris Cope or Rory McDonald

Round Two: The Carpenter Carves His Path

When it comes to UFC Ultimate Fighter Finales and Clay Guida, fireworks are guaranteed from the opening bell to the final bell. Clay Guida used his primarily ground based attack to keep Anthony Pettis off of his feet and away from his explosiveness. Clay Guida now holds a victory over the final WEC Lightweight Champion and is now in contention for the UFC Lightweight Title. The real question that must be answered by Anthony Pettis now is…was the risk worth it in the end?

Next Round For Clay Guida: The Frankie Edgar/Gray Maynard loser

Next Round For Anthony Pettis: Gleison Tibau or the Jim Miller/Ben Henderson loser

Round Three: Short Fuse = Short Victory

Ed Herman and Tim Credeur both returned to the UFC after a near two year absence to deal with various injuries. Ed Herman made a quick display of his skills on Saturday Night when he laid out Tim Credeur in under a minute with several well placed strikes. Ed Herman now finds himself in a very shallow contender’s pool in the UFC Middleweight Division lead by Anderson Silva. Tim Credeur did not look very good at all in his quick defeat, which could make it possible for the UFC to release him.

Next Round For Ed Herman: Damian Maia, CB Dollaway or Tom Lawlor

Next Round For Tim Credeur: A UFC release

Round Four: The Fall Of A Contender

A few short months ago, Josh Grispi was considered the top contender in the UFC Featherweight Division. Presently, Josh Grispi is on a two fight losing streak after suffering a second straight loss to journeyman George Roop. Josh Grispi now finds himself on a potential pink slip list from the UFC and he better act quickly to right the wrongs. George Roop now finds himself with a last shot at success in the UFC, but a move to the lightweight division may be a better move for his future.

Next Round For George Roop: Diego Nunes or Dustin Poirier

Next Round For Josh Grispi: Mike Brown or Jason Young

Round Five: A New “King” In The UFC

Kyle Kingsbury has been asking for better competition after winning three straight in the UFC and it is time he gets it. While Fabio Maldonado is a quality piece of talent, Kyle Kingsbury is ready to be moved to a bigger stage and his skills need to be tested further. One big piece of credit must be handed to Fabio Maldonado, who showed just how effective body shots can be in an MMA fight. In a very crowded UFC Light Heavyweight Division, Kyle Kingsbury is a fighter to be making room for in the future.

Next Round For Kyle Kingsbury: Luiz Cane, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira or Matt Hamill

Next Round For Fabio Maldonado: Steve Cantwell or Jason Brilz
