BELLATOR FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 46 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 6/22/2011 3:23 PM
After a short break from a very exciting season four, Bellator kicks off it “Summer Series” this Saturday Night with a stellar line up. The main card will be featuring the opening round of the BFC Featherweight Tournament, but first there is the preliminary card. This events preliminary card features a lot of talented local competitors and one very important fight in the women’s division.

The evening is going to start off in the heavyweight division as Tony Johnson Jr. (5-1-0) does battle with Derrick “The Black Beast” Lewis (4-1-0). Tony Johnson Jr. fought his last three fights in the King Of The Cage promotion, where he took on Strikeforce veteran Daniel Cormier. Derrick Lewis enters the fight riding a three fight winning streak and he has mostly fought in the Worldwide Gladiator promotion. This fight could see somebody earn a way into a future heavyweight tournament, which would be going to Derrick Lewis.

Up next is a battle taking place in the middleweight division as David “Baggs” Baggett (6-6-0) faces off with Moyses “The Savage” Gabin (5-4-0). David Baggett enters this fight with a disappointing record, but he has faced such top UFC fighters as Phil Davis and Ryan Bader. Moyses Gabin has gone two and two in his Bellator run, plus has fought UFC veteran Jon Jones outside of the promotion. This fight is really between guys that have been stepping stones for others, but I’m going with David Baggett in this one.

The next fight is a Bellator Women’s 115lb. Division encounter as Jessica “Jag” Aguilar (10-4-0) squares off against Carla Esparza (5-1-0). Jessica Aguilar competed in the inaugural Bellator Women’s Tournament, losing to Zoila Gurgel in the semi-finals. Carla Esparza competed in the very same tournament, losing in the opening round to Megumi Fujii. This fight could earn the winner an opportunity to face Zoila Gurgel in the future and that person will be Jessica Aguilar.

Lightweights will step into the cage for our next fight as Alexandre “Popo” Bezerra (8-1-0) takes on Matt McCook (8-4-0). Alexandre Bezerra enters the fight riding a three fight winning streak and has stepped into the cage against UFC veteran Charles Oliveira. Matt McCook has only won one of his last three MMA fights, with a lot of his battles occurring in the Atlas Fights promotion. This fight should be an entertaining battle, but it will be Alexandre Bezerra picking up the big victory.

Headlining the preliminary card is a middleweight affair as Dan Cramer (6-2-0) goes to war against Josh Samman (8-1-0). Dan Cramer is currently undefeated in the Bellator Fighting Championships, with three victories thus far in the promotion. Josh Samman enters the fight riding a five fight winning streak, which includes a victory over UFC veteran Chris Cope. Dan Cramer’s inability to finish fights will cost him this fight as Josh Samman will use his skills to pick up the win.
