UFC ON VERSUS IV FACEBOOK CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 6/24/2011 10:14 AM
When you have a weekend with all three major North American MMA promotions holding events, the current MMA king must be the closer. The Facebook portion of the card has three huge fights that will be taking place is both the lightweight and featherweight division. Just be aware that this portion of the card kicks off at 6pm EST. on the official UFC Facebook Page and you must “like” them first.

Kicking off the action is a lightweight division attraction as Edward “Falo” Faaloloto (2-1-0) steps in the cage against Michael “The Menace” Johnson (8-5-0). Edward Faaloloto is making his UFC debut in the fight after one appearance in the WEC, which was a loss to Anthony Njokuani. Michael Johnson was a finalist on the UFC Ultimate Fighter 12, before losing to Jonathan Brookins in the finals. This fight seems like a set up to get Michael Johnson a victory in the UFC and that is exactly what is going to happen.

Another pair of lightweights will clash next as Matt “The Real One” Grice (13-3-0) goes to battle against Ricardo Lamas (9-2-0). Matt Grice returns to the UFC riding a four fight winning streak, with three of those wins coming in the Freestyle Cage Fighting promotion. Ricardo Lamas will be making his UFC debut after a successful run in the WEC, where he won four of six fights. This fight should mainly be contested on the ground, which is where Ricardo Lamas will pick up the victory.

More lightweight action will take place next as Nik “The Carney” Lentz (21-3-2) faces off with Charles “Do Bronx” Oliveira (14-1-0). Nik Lentz is currently undefeated in UFC competition, with five victories and a single draw to his name. Charles Oliveira has won two of three in the UFC, but he is coming off of a loss to top ranked lightweight Jim Miller. This is another fight that should see a lot of time on the ground, but I see Nik Lentz remaining undefeated in the UFC when it’s all over.

The next battle will be occurring in the welterweight division as Rich “The Raging Bull” Attonito (9-4-0) takes on Daniel “Ninja” Roberts (12-2-0). Rich Attonito was a cast member on the UFC Ultimate Fighter 11 and holds a notable UFC victory over Rafael Natal. Daniel Roberts has won three of five in the UFC, including victories over MMA veterans like Michael Guymon and Forrest Petz. This fight could come down to Rich Attonito’s ability to keep the fight on the feet, but I see him failing and Daniel Roberts Notching the victory.

The lightweight division returns to the octagon next as Joe “J-Lau” Lauzon (19-6-0) squares off against Curt “The War” Warburton (7-2-0). Joe Lauzon is always a contender in the lightweight division, having won six of nine fights in the promotion. Curt Warburton has split both of his fights in the UFC, suffering a notable defeat to Spencer Fisher at UFC 120. This fight is a classic grappler versus striker encounter, but I’m going with Joe Lauzon to pick up the big victory.

The featherweight division is highlighted next as Joe “Daddy” Stevenson (31-13-0) faces Javier “Showtime” Vazquez (15-5-0). Joe Stevenson has lost his last three fights in the promotion and a fourth straight loss may get him the pink slip. Javier Vazquez is making his UFC debut in this fight after a run in the WEC that saw him win two of five in the promotion. This is another fight that should find its way to the ground, where I see Javier Vazquez handing Joe Stevenson his exit papers from the UFC.

Headlining the Facebook portion of the card is a featherweight division encounter as Manny “Pitbull” Gamburyan (11-5-0) is set to fight Tyson Griffin (14-5-0). Manny Gamburyan returns to the UFC after a successful run in the WEC, a run that saw him challenge for the WEC Featherweight Title. Tyson Griffin could be fighting to avoid the pink slip as well, losing three straight fights in the promotion. This fight should mostly be fought on the ground, which is where Manny Gamburyan will get the victory.
