SHARK FIGHTS 17 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 7/13/2011 11:16 AM
The quickly rising Shark Fights promotion returns this Friday Night with a card headlined by a rematch between Jake Rosholt and Matt Horwich. Also, former UFC Heavyweight Champion Ricco Rodriquez competes just prior to his August battle in Bellator with Seth Petruzelli. However, the preliminary card is filled with plenty of up and coming Texas based fighters who are ready to make an impact.

Kicking off the card is a welterweight division clash as Russell Brewer (2-0-0) heads into battle against Brad Cox (2-0-0). Russell Brewer made his professional MMA debut in auspicious fashion, defeating Christopher Golden by knockout in just five seconds. Brad Cox has been fight professionally for two years now, most recently defeating Edwynn Jones by unanimous decision. Russell Brewer is the more active of the two fighters and that will help him score a victory on Friday Night.

Up next is a lightweight division affair as Jay Flores (0-1-0) steps into the cage against Matthew Hobar (1-0-0). Jay Flores hasn’t fought in well over a year, since suffering a TKO defeat to Brian Pierce at Supreme Warriors Championships 10. Matthew Hobar won his professional MMA debut this past April when he defeated Joseph Davidson by TKO. Matthew Hobar is a fighter on the rise and he will show exactly why as he defeats Jay Flores with his striking.

Another set of welterweights will be going to battle next as Charles Byrd (2-2-0) takes on Alan Jouban (1-1-0). Charles Byrd has rotated winning and losing thus far in his MMA career, most recently defeating Gabriel Vasquez by submission. Alan Jouban fought both of his MMA fights in the Tachi Palace Fights promotion and is coming off of a loss. At this stage in both fighters’ careers, Charles Byrd is the more well-rounded fighter and that will give him the victory.

Up next is another lightweight division fight as Victor Hernandez (3-13-0) goes into battle against Quaint “KO” Kempf (4-1-0). Victor Hernandez enters this fight riding a three fight winning streak and he even fought longtime MMA veteran Charles “Krazy Horse” Bennett. Quaint Kempf is currently undefeated in Shark Fights, having defeated Donnie Frye by submission at Shark Fights 14. This fight is set up for an easy Quaint Kempf victory and that is exactly whats going to happen on Friday Night.

Headlining this portion of the card is a middleweight division fight as Clay Hantz (6-3-0) takes on Jeremy Kimball (3-2-0). Clay Hantz has split both of his Shark Fights encounters in the past and he hasn’t fought in the promotion in over a year. Jeremy Kimball enters this fight riding a three fight winning streak, with two of those wins coming in the Steel City Rumble promotion. This battle will be about who can get the fight where they can dictate the pace, which is what Clay Hantz will do to get the victory.
