SHARK FIGHTS 17 TELEVISED CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 7/14/2011 10:34 AM
One of the fastest rising MMA promotions in North America right now is the Texas based Shark Fights promotion and they present another big card on Friday Night. Headlining this card is a rematch of a battle that occurred previously in another promotion as UFC veterans Matt Horwich and Jake Rosholt go at it once again. In the evening’s co-main event, former UFC Heavyweight Champion Ricco Rodriquez takes on Karl Knothe.

Kicking off the event is a heavyweight division scrap as Daniel “Jacare” Almeida (5-1-0) is set to take on Doug Williams (5-12-0). Daniel Almeida enters this fight riding a three fight winning streak, with two wins coming in the 24/7 Entertainment MMA promotion. Although Doug Williams has a poor professional MMA record, he has faced former UFC Heavyweight Champion Ricco Rodriquez. This fight is simply set up for a Daniel Almeida victory and that is exactly what is going to happen in this one.

Up next is a bantamweight division encounter as Douglas Frey (9-6-0) does battle against Erik Perez (7-5-0). Douglas Frey has won five of six fights in the Shark Fights promotion, with his lone loss coming to UFC veteran Doug Evans. Erik Perez is currently undefeated this year, achieving victories over both France Atala and Jesse Thorton. Douglas Frey has been on quite the roll in Shark Fights and that will continue as he achieves another victory on Friday Night.

A pair of light heavyweights are set to scrap next as Ilir Latifi (4-1-0) will take on Emanuel “The Hardcore Kid” Newton (14-6-1). Ilir Latifi is coming off of an impressive run in the K-1 MMA promotion, where he won two of three fights. Emanuel Newton is coming off of the biggest win of his professional MMA career, which was over UFC veteran Rodney Wallace at Maximum Fighting Championships 28. Emanuel Newton will keep his momentum going as he uses his submission skills to defeat Ilir Latifi on Friday Night.

The co-main event fight will be taking place in the heavyweight division as Karl “The Original Son Of Punishment” Knothe (19-6-0) takes on former UFC Heavyweight Champion Ricco “Suave” Rodriguez (46-11-0). Karl Knothe enters this fight riding a twelve fight winning streak, with the majority of the wins coming in the Brutaal MMA promotion. Ricco Rodriquez enters this fight riding an eleven fight winning streak and his last win was over UFC veteran James McSweeney. I believe this fight is going to be a lot closer than most people think, but Ricco Rodriguez will edge out a win.

Headlining this card is a middleweight division encounter as Matt “Suave” Horwich (26-18-1) faces Jake Rosholt (11-3-0). Matt Horwich already holds a victory over Jake Rosholt, which occurred by TKO at an Xtreme Fight Night event last year. Jake Rosholt is coming off of a controversial fight against John Ott at Titan Fighting Championships 18, which he originally lost by DQ after an illegal knee strike…but it was eventually overturned into a no contest. There is not much evidence for one to think this fight will be any different than the first, which is why Matt Horwich will get another victory here.
