I just gotta hand it to them. The WWE has captured my interest with everything they've been doing.
From riding the line between shoot and storyline with CM Punk, to enhancing everything with social media and real life events like ComicCon, they've seemed to really be hitting the fans' interest on all levels.
In my mind this is when wrestling is best: when you forget about reality and feel as if what you are watching means something, and when I say mean something, I mean an impact within your sphere of influences and interests in mind.
What makes a great movie is a captivating story that makes you think and expand on with your own thought process. A great movie will have you matching its story to your own real life scenarios. A great movie will inspire you. The same is for a TV show. The same is for wrestling.
Now wrestling is more than just a movie or TV show though. I see WWE taking it to new heights with social media and real life events such as ComicCon.
In the end, I just have to hand it to the WWE. I haven't been their biggest supporter and a lot of that truly does stem from the night of November 9, 1997 at the Survivor Series. I went from being a WWF guy one night, to a WCW night the next, and I think a lot of Canadians did. I just happened to be stubborn in never truly coming back as a WWE fan.
We know the story of WCW, so in 2002, NWA-TNA gave me new life and I've been a supporter since. Lately though, it hasn't hit me till I thought about it at the conclusion of RAW tonight, I'm just not into TNA (or iMPACT Wrestling) anymore. It's not because I despise the company, I love it actually, it's just their television show is as not captivating like the WWE.
I truly came back when Bret Hart was back last year, but left again, but now I think it's safe to say that I'm back regardless of if Bret is there or not. The WWE is the superior vehicle to professional wrestling, and it's entertainment whether you want to believe that or not.
Yes "Wrestling Matters," but if you can't back that up with a great product, then it's not worth talking without a great walk.
Sorry if I rambled. I could have gone longer and more in-depth, but that would have bored you. I just wanted to get this out there, in a community that I believe to be the smartest board of collected wrestling fans.
I'll always be a TNA fan, and I've always been a WWE fan deep down, but I'm just here to say that my respect for the WWE is back, and it always was there, I'm just open to calling myself a WWE guy once again. Sure you can call me a crazy Canadian, but what happened back then was very real.
Kudos to WWE for such great entertainment. I'll be watching every Monday night from here and on. I'm looking forward to a great lead up to WrestleMania!
Yankees2545:
This is like the 4th week in a row raw has just been on fire, other than a crappy Diva's match - something we are accustomed to. Everything from the promos to the ring work to storyline advancement - Raw was great tonight!
Agent D:
Everything with Punk and Cena has been brilliant, but I'll also give credit to WWE for complementing what's going on at the top of the card with some quality action going on throughout the rest of Raw that should help hold people's interest.
Other than the Divas match and the Keystone Light commercial with the Bellas, it felt like everything tonight had a purpose behind it. It makes a huge difference when things are booked for a reason other than "We need to fill 10 minutes tonight."
Just for example, R-Truth and Triple H going back and forth. If that segment took place just a few months ago, it almost assuredly would have resulted in Truth getting Pedigreed or thrown into a match with a random midcarder where Truth loses to pop the live crowd and the whole thing is forgotten by the next week. Instead, it set up Hunter bringing back Morrison and likely created a new match for Summer Slam.
SCBMF:
Just an awesome Raw and if you didnt like it, then I dont know what you're looking for.
So great to see JR back for good(well for now) and Punk is just such a big star now that you cant keep him off tv and WWE has to strike while iron is hot.
Great wrestling all around. GREAT SHOW!
