UFC 133: EVANS VS. ORTIZ II PAY-PER-VIEW CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 8/5/2011 5:34 PM
It only took four very long years for former UFC Light Heavyweight Champions Rashad Evans and Tito Ortiz clash again after their draw at UFC 74. A victory in that fight could mean a guaranteed title shot for one fighter and continuing career resurgence for another fighter. Also, Vitor Belfort clashes with Yoshihiro Akiyama and Dennis Hallman competes on a UFC pay-per-view for the first time in over five years.

Kicking off the action is a welterweight division clash as Rory “Ares” MacDonald (11-1-0) meets up with Mike “Quicksand” Pyle (21-7-1). Rory MacDonald has won two of three thus far in the UFC, most notably defeating Nate Diaz at UFC 129 in April. Mike Pyle has won three straight fights in the UFC and is coming off of a victory over the top ranked Ricardo Almeida. This is a pivotal fight in the division for both competitors, but it will be the veteran Mike Pyle earning the victory.

We are jumping to the middleweight division for our next fight as Constantinos Philippou (7-2-0) steps into the cage against Jorge “El Conquistador” Rivera (19-8-0). Constantinos Philippou is currently winless in UFC competition, having lost to Nick Catone at UFC 128 in March. Jorge Rivera is coming off of a loss to Michael Bisping at UFC 120, a fight more remembered for an illegal knee strike. This fight will be a test to see if the old lion still has it in him and Jorge Rivera will show that he does have it in him.

The welterweight division will be highlighted again as Brian “Bad Boy” Ebersole (47-14-1) clashes with Dennis “Superman” Hallman (50-13-2). Brian Ebersole enters the fight riding an eight fight winning streak, with his biggest victory coming over Chris Lytle. Dennis Hallman has won two of three since returning to the UFC in 2009, most recently defeating Karo Parisyan at UFC 123. This is a compelling fight between two very experienced fighters, but Dennis Hallman has more big fight experience and that will get him the win.

The co-main event takes place in the middleweight division as Yoshihiro “Sexyama” Akiyama (13-3-0) takes on “The Phenom” Vitor Belfort (19-9-0). Yoshihiro Akiyama enters this fight riding a two fight losing streak and could be fighting for his job in this one. Vitor Belfort is coming off a loss to UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva, which occurred at UFC 126. This fight should be nothing short of a slugfest and that falls into the favor of Vitor Belfort, who will get the duke.

Headlining this card is a light heavyweight division encounter as “Suga” Rashad Evans (15-1-1) faces “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” Tito Ortiz (16-8-1). Rashad Evans is returning to MMA competition after a fourteen month layoff, but does so riding a two fight winning streak. Tito Ortiz recently achieved his first victory in nearly five years, defeating Ryan Bader by submission at UFC 132. This fight has all the makings for a huge upset and I am going with Tito Ortiz to pull that coveted upset over Rashad Evans.
