CHECK OUT…SUPERIOR CAGE COMBAT

By David Tees on 8/9/2011 5:09 PM
A new feature I will be bringing to PWInsiderXtra.com is called “Check Out…”, which will feature a look at other MMA promotions not called the Ultimate Fighting Championships, Strikeforce or Bellator Fighting Championships. There are plenty of folks who are MMA fans, old and new, that only know of the major promotions and these columns will hopefully change that.

Promotion: Superior Cage Combat

Home Base: Las Vegas, Nevada

Broadcast Partner: None (Straight To DVD)

Official Website: SuperiorCageCombat.com

First Event: Superior Cage Combat 1 (5/21/2011)

Next Event: Superior Cage Combat 2 (8/20/2011)

Notable Fighters: Justin Buchholz, Steve Lopez, Chuck Grigsby, Dave Terrell & Chase Gormley

Despite only having one event under their belt, Superior Cage Combat has already proven to be a fast rising commodity in the MMA world. The first event, Superior Cage Combat 1, featured top ranked fighters like Justin Buchholz, Chase Gormley, Chuck Grigsby and Steve Lopez. However, it will be their sophomore effort this month that could have a lot of people talking about the promotion.

Taking place on August 20th, the company returns with Superior Cage Combat 2, featuring a card full of top MMA fighters. Competitors like John Alessio, Josh Neer, Waachiim Spiritwolf, Justin Buchholz, John Gunderson and Blas Avena will be in the cage. Much like the debut event, I cannot wait to get my hands on a DVD copy of what looks to be an awesome second effort from the Las Vegas based company.

Most folks within the MMA universe now seem to think that it is suicide to launch a new MMA promotion without some form of TV and/or pay-per-view deal. Thus far, Superior Cage Combat has not announced any form of deal like that, but has announced that they will release DVD’s of each event they put together. While that is always not the best option for MMA promotions, it does get the product out there for the people to check out.

With companies like Shark Fights, Legacy Fighting Championships and Titan Fighting Championships getting TV deals…it is not hard to fathom that Superior Cage Combat will not get one either. With or without a TV deal at the moment, Superior Cage Combat is definitely a promotion everybody should check out.
