UFC ON VERSUS V FACEBOOK CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 8/12/2011 9:54 AM
For the last few months, the UFC has found a way to air all the fights from each event on Facebook, TV and pay-per-view…this event will be no different. The UFC On Versus V Facebook stream is a hefty one, featuring key fights in the middleweight, bantamweight and lightweight divisions. Due to the massive amounts of fights, the stream will be kicking off at 5:45pm EST., three hours before the fights on Versus begins.

Kicking off the event will be a bantamweight division fight as Edwin “El Feroz” Figueroa (7-1-0) will square off with Jason Reinhardt (20-2-0). Edwin Figueroa is currently winless in UFC competition, having suffered a defeat to Michael McDonald at UFC Ultimate Fight Night 24. Jason Reinhardt is another fighter who has yet to achieve victory in the UFC, suffering defeats to Joe Lauzon and Tiequan Zhang. This is a battle between the young up and comer versus the grizzled veteran, but it will be the up and comer in Edwin Figueroa gaining victory.

The next fight will take place in the lightweight division as Danny “Last Call” Castillo (11-3-0) will go into battle against Jacob “Christmas” Volkmann (12-2-0). Danny Castillo is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Joe Stevenson at UFC On Versus III. Jacob Volkmann enters this fight riding a three fight winning streak, most recently defeating Antonio McKee at UFC 125. This fight should mostly be fought on the ground, which is where Jacob Volkmann will earn his fourth straight victory.

The following fight will take place in the lightweight division as Cole “Maghrino” Miller (17-5-0) faces off with TJ “The Spider” O’Brien (16-4-0). Cole Miller has won six of nine fights in the UFC, but is coming off of a loss to Matt Wiman at UFC Fights For The Troops II. TJ O’Brien is currently winless in UFC competition, having suffered a defeat to Paul Kelly at UFC 123. This fight is going to be a battle between two of the best submission artist in the sport, but it will be Cole Miller achieving victory.

We travel to the featherweight division for our next fight as Alex “Bruce Leroy” Caceres (5-3-0) will be across the cage from Jim Hettes (8-0-0). Alex Caceres is currently winless in UFC competition, having suffered a defeat to Mackens Semerzier at UFC Ultimate Fight Night 24. Jim Hettes is an undefeated fighter who has achieved four of his eight MMA victories in the Northeast MMA promotion. This fight is a big test for Alex Caceres, who will be failing it as Jim Hettes will be leaving the fight with his streak intact.

We move up to the light heavyweight division for our next fight as Ronny Markes (11-1-0) will step into the octagon against Karlos “The Terminator” Vemola (8-1-0). Ronny Markes enters the fight riding a four fight winning streak, which includes a victory over the top rated Paulo Filho. Karlos Vemola has split both of his UFC appearances, defeating Seth Petruzelli and suffering a defeat to Jon Madsen. This fight is going to comes down to whether or not Ronny Markes can ground his opponent, which I do not see him doing as Karlos Vemola pounds his way to victory.

Our first middleweight division encounter takes place next as Ed “Short Fuse” Herman (21-9-0) will have to contend with Kyle “KO” Noke (19-4-1). Ed Herman returned to action after a two year layoff after knee surgery to defeat Tim Credeur at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 13 Finale. Kyle Noke enters this fight riding a five fight winning streak, which includes a victory over the highly touted Rob Kimmons. This is a battle to see who breaks into the top ten of the division and that fighter is going to be Kyle Noke.

We go back to the bantamweight division for our next fight as Joseph Benavidez (12-2-0) faces Eddie Wineland (18-7-1). Joseph Benavidez enters the fight riding a two fight winning streak, which includes a victory in his UFC debut over Ian Loveland. Eddie Wineland is currently winless in UFC competition, having suffered a defeat to Urijah Faber at UFC 128. The winner of this fight will no doubt be in contention for a bantamweight title shot and that fighter will be Joseph Benavidez.

Headlining this portion of the card is a middleweight division fight as CB “The Doberman” Dollaway (11-3-0) takes on Jared “The Messenger” Hamman (12-3-0). CB Dollaway has won five of eight fights in the UFC, but he is coming off of a loss to Mark Munoz at UFC On Versus III. Jared Hamman has had a poor run in the UFC thus far, with his lone victory coming over Rodney Wallace at UFC 111. This fight is an apropos one to finish the preliminary card as it will be CB Dollaway earning the victory.
