The write-up:
The largest crowd to date at the Springfield Turnverein gathered on Saturday night of Labor Day weekend 2011 to witness a tumultuous night of action from New England’s premier wrestling organization, the Eastern Wrestling Alliance. The Diamonds of the Ring, sans Marshall McNeil (who was later explained by Burke to have been kept off the show by the Diamonds in order to keep him out of harm's, by way of Joey Eastman, way) took the ring to introduce the new EWA Heavyweight Champion, their own Golden Burke. After “congratulating” Bobby Ocean, the Mac, Lukas Sharpe and Shane Marvel on their victory in the 8-man elimination match with the Diamonds on June 25, Sharpe and Marvel were wished well in their own singles match, and Ocean and the Mac were advised that despite interest from one of them, the Diamonds were not taking applications for new members at the time. Golden Burke then took center stage, and amidst a celebration by his fellow Diamonds which was not shared by the crowd, Burke previewed what the fans had to look forward to in the Golden age.
In the first match-up, friends Shane Marvel and Lukas Sharpe met in a singles match-up. Despite the apparent hopes of the Diamonds that this match would affect the two’s friendship, Marvel and Sharpe wrestled a clean match the showcased their mutual respect. In the end, Marvel sidestepped a crossbody attempt by Sharpe, who hit the middle rope groin first and went down hard. Senior referee Michael Crockett checked on Sharpe and called for the bell after deciding that Sharpe was unfit to continue. Marvel took little comfort in the victory, however, and immediately checked on his fallen friend’s welfare. Marvel helped Sharpe up, and the two exited the ring together.
In the second contest, despite a game effort by Brenick O’Brien, Brad Hollister and I.M. Valor, Diamond’s members “Royalty” William King, “Egomaniac” Jonny Idol and Dr. Reginald Heresy used utilized their guile to orchestrate a numbers game on Hollister and steal the victory.
In the third match, and third match-up between the two, Valkyrie forced Mercedes KV to submit to a Boston Crab in a hard-fought contest.
In the fourth match, Dan De Man and Adrian Vine eeked out a victory after a miscue by Bobby Ocean and the Mac had them collide twice. The two butted heads after the match, with Ocean questioning whether the Mac was in fact expressing interest in joining the Diamonds of the Ring.
In the fifth match, Joey Eastman introduced Taka Suzuki as the newest member of Joey Eastman Worldwide. After a 12-minute battle, Suzuki was able to score a win in his debut match against the returning and ever-impressive “Hurricane” John Walters.
Following intermission, “The City” Sebastian Reese took on the United Kingdom’s own Eddie Ryan in his U.S. debut. The fans took to the fiery Ryan, who nearly defeated the much larger Reese before falling victim to Reese charging crossbody.
In an excellent tag team match worth going out of your way to see, EWA Tag Team Champions the Purists successfully defended their titles against the Crimson Dynamos in an 18-minute match. Following the defeat, the recurrent argument between the Dynamos flared again. Following their making amends and hugging, however, Zack Static shocked the crowd when he booted his partner Doug Summers in the gut and delivered a vicious double-underhook twisting sit-out powerbomb. Static attacked Summers with a flurry of punches, before washing the Dynamos make-up off of his face, and kicking Summers in the face for good measure before leaving him lying in the ring.
In the main event, EWA Heavyweight Champion Golden Burke met Joey Eastman Worldwide member and former 2-time EWA Heavyweight Champion Mikaze in a heated contest that began with Mikaze vaulting over referee Mike Crockett’s back to somersault dive onto Burke on the floor. After a hard-hitting match, Mikaze looked poised for victory on the top rope before Heresy and King ran in and pushed him off of the top. With the referee calling for a disqualification, the Diamonds beat on Mikaze and Burke threw Mikaze to the floor, following after him. Heresy and King began to head outside the ring as well, when Joey Eastman jumped on Heresy’s back and began flailing on him. Heresy quickly dumped Eastman, and King and Heresy were closing in on Eastman when Taka Suzuki came off the top rope with a dropkick to King, and the man later revealed as the latest member of Joey Eastman Worldwide, Chris Mooch, clotheslined Heresy and delivered an impressive springboard moonsault. Heresy and King retreated to ringside with Burke, when Eastman dove off the top turnbuckle onto the 3. Even with gravity on his side, Eastman could not topple the 3, who caught him and looked prepared to cause him some harm when Suzuki leaped off the top onto everyone, bringing the Diamonds crashing down. Eastman and his crew re-took the ring, where Eastman introduced the newest member of Joey Eastman Worldwide and promised that this was just the beginning.
The EWA returns to the Springfield Turnverein on Saturday night, October 8. Be there!!!
