Showcase Pro Wrestling
Review By: J. Shottek
A night of fantastic tag team action that begins the quest to crown the first SPW Tag Team Champions!!
Woonsocket, RI-SPW Arena-12/30/11:
Classic tag team wrestling, like only Showcase Pro Wrestling can deliver, was on tap at the SPW arena on December 30th. Oddly enough, singles action was first up as Jack Krueger did battle with SPW relative newcomer, Ryan Matthews. The two high flyers met in the center of the ring, and their impactful actions were felt across the arena as the two went toe to toe for several minutes until Matthews gained the upper hand, and took the match via pinfall.
After the crowd was stirred into frenzy, the first of several tag team matches transpired to kick off the tournament to decide the new tag champs. First, let’s take a moment to explain the rules. Score a win, score two points. Lose the match, pick up no points. Over the next several months, tag teams will be doing battle in a round robin format until ultimately the two highest scoring teams do battle at the SPW 5th Anniversary show at the South Attleboro K of C in March.
The first team to step to the ring was Monster Mack and Trainee # 1, collectively known as “Monster Attack”. They took it to a solid pair of combatants in “Version 2”. Intense, action packed moments kept the hungry crowd wanting more until the Mack scored the win via pinfall, and also the first two points of the overall tourney.
“Tough Talking “Tony Spencer came out to introduce himself as the toughest man in Woonsocket. After insulting everyone, Spencer left to look for a challenge.
The next tag team match featured “The prodigal child with the southern smile” Cargill Vinton, and his protégé Buck Nasty doing battle with The Bum and The Butler (The Butler was a last second fill in for David Armando Nieves Flores since Flores had Aristocratic business to attend to. The Bum put up a valiant effort against Vinton and Nasty, and the Butler refused to mix it up with either opponent. When all seemed lost for the Bum, The Hobo stormed to the ring to remove The Butler and help his old friend out. When the bell rang though, it was the Hobo that took the loss and Vinton and Nasty that took the next two points of the tourney.
High impact singles action between “Heart throb” Dan Cama and The Wolfman was next in the final singles match of the night. Distraction personified in The Wolfman’s manager, Mr.Justus, transpired as he assisted the Wolfman, and sealed the win against Cama.
The Loomis Brothers took it to the newly formed team of “Mr. Nice” Mike Nice, and “The man they call” Barricade. The Loomis brothers attacked Nice and Barricade as the latter approached the ring. Nice took a huge fall off the ring apron and opened up a nasty gash on his elbow before the match actually started. Barricade and Nice got the upper hand for a moment or two, but, when the match ended, it was Nice that took the pinall, and the Loomis Brothers that scored the two points in the tournament.
The team known as Bloodline took on MIA in the next match. MIA never really stood a chance as they were outgunned from bell to bell as Bloodline took them apart both physically and mentally. Bloodline took the win, the two points and set the stage for the evening’s final match.
Nicholas Night and Mark “Flex” Damon did battle with a game, but overmatched “Adrenalize”. Adrenalize threw in what they could to try to slow the former SPW Heavyweight Champion, and his partner, but it was just not enough. Damon and Night scored a win at the five minute mark, and sealed the last two points of the tournament.
“Tough Talking “ Tony Spencer returned for another interview stating he found barricade. Spencer challenge Barricade and starting kicking barricade while stating Barricade is nothing. Spencer did not notice the real Barricade not the ringside barricade was behind him, and quickly run to ring to escapes the SPW Champion. Spencer could not resist the offer for a title shot. However his mouth was to big to back up his words as “Tough Talking” Tony Spencer losing to the SPW Champ Barricade to the fans delight.
Final results for the Tag Team Tournament went as follows:
Night and Damon: 2 Points
Vinton and Nasty: 2 Points
Monster Mack Attack: 2 Points
Loomis Brothers: 2 Points
Bloodline: 2 Points
