The action begins with Jay Glazer and Stephan Bonnar going over tonight’s card and announcing that Jorge Rivera will retire after his fight with Eric Schafer.
Fight #1 - UFC Bantamweight Division Fight
Nick Denis (10-2-0) vs. Joseph Sandoval (6-1-0)
Referee: Josh Rosenthal
Round One
The round begins with Denis quickly attacking Sandoval with strikes, Denis then connects with a few rights before dropping him with a series of elbow strikes and the referee quickly steps in to stop the fight.
Fight Result: Nick Denis def. Joseph Sandoval by KO via elbow strikes (0:22, R1)
Post fight interview with Nick Denis, who said that his UFC debut couldn’t have gone any better and said his game plan was to put the fight on the ground.
Fight Thoughts: Not a bad way to make a UFC debut for Nick Denis as it has been the first time in a long time that somebody was knocked out with standing elbow strikes. This could be the end of Joseph Sandoval in the UFC as he was finished in both of his UFC appearances in quick fashion.
Fight #2 - UFC Featherweight Division Fight
Daniel Pineda (15-7-0) vs. Pat Schilling (5-0-0)
Referee: Mario Yamasaki
Round One
The round begins with Pineda testing Schilling early with a few jab attempts, Pineda then catches Schilling with a leg kick after eating a left. Pineda then scores a takedown on Schilling and he quickly gets full mount, Pineda starts pounding away until Schilling gives up his back. Pineda starts attacking Schilling with more strikes as Schilling stands up with him on his back, Pineda locks in a rear naked choke and a tap out follows.
Fight Result: Daniel Pineda def. Pat Schilling by submission via rear naked choke (1:37, R1)
Post fight interview with Daniel Pineda, who says he was excited to make his UFC debut and his game plan was to push Pat Schilling out of his comfort zone.
Fight Thoughts: Experience played a major role in this fight because Daniel Pineda outclassed Pat Schilling from bell to bell. The end with the rear naked choke looked similar to the first Matt Hughes/Frank Trigg fight at UFC 45.
Ariel Helwani interviews Nick Denis backstage, who talks about his game plan for Joseph Sandoval was to put the fight on the ground and he does not regret dropping out of school to compete in MMA.
Jay Glazer and Stephan Bonnar are back to provide analysis on the first two fights of the evening.
Fight #3 - UFC Lightweight Division Fight
Fabricio Camoes (12-6-1) vs. Tommy Hayden (8-0-0)
Referee: Josh Rosenthal
Round One
The round begins with Hayden attacking Camoes quickly with a leg kick, Hayden the dazes a charging Camoes with a jab. Hayden then catches Camoes again with a series of wild strikes, the fight goes to the ground with Hayden getting on the side of Camoes. The fighters stand up and Camoes nails Hayden with a knee strike before getting taken down, Hayden allows the fight to be stood up. The fighters go back to the ground and Hayden gets half guard on Camoes, Camoes goes for an omaplata on Hayden that leads to Camoes getting top position. Camoes postures up to nail Hayden with some ground and pound, Camoes finds a way to get back control on Hayden. Camoes locks in a rear naked choke after a struggle and the tap out follows.
Fight Results: Fabricio Camoes def. Tommy Hayden by submission via rear naked choke (4:03, R1)
Post fight interview with Fabricio Camoes, who says that the octagon is full of magic and he thanks the UFC for giving him another shot.
Fight Thoughts: This was an interesting fight because Tommy Hayden was doing well on his feet, but once it got to the ground, it went all Fabricio Camoes way. This was a pivotal victory for Fabricio Camoes, who lost his first two fights in the UFC several years back.
Jay Glazer and Stephan Bonnar return to provide more analysis on the evenings action.
Ariel Helwani interviews Daniel Pineda backstage, who says that he should have been in the UFC a lot sooner and he thought the fight was going to be more of a war.
Fight #4 - UFC Welterweight Division Fight
Charlie Brenneman (14-3-0) vs. Daniel Roberts (12-3-0)
Referee: Herb Dean
Round One
The round begins with Roberts attacking Brenneman with punches before getting taken down, Brenneman quickly gets half guard on Roberts. Brenneman then uses his legs to move into the side control position, Brenneman successfully moves to side control on Roberts. Brenneman then quickly locks Roberts in the crucifix position, Brenneman then starts clobbering Roberts with some strikes until the crucifix was broken. Roberts then finds a way to get Brenneman back into the half guard, Brenneman escapes just as fast and gets side control on Roberts. Brenneman then starts attacking Roberts with some knee strikes to the ribs, Brenneman is eventually forced back into the full guard by Roberts after a struggle. Roberts uses a wall walk to stand up and Brenneman drags him back to the ground as the round ends.
Round Two
The round begins with Roberts attempting a head kick on Brenneman, Brenneman quickly scores a takedown and Roberts tries to control his head. Brenneman then moves from half guard to side control and then back to the half guard, Brenneman moves back to side control and he attacks Roberts with a mix of elbows and punches. Brenneman then locks in the crucifix again and the strikes soon follow, Roberts scrambles to escape and he is successful as he puts Brenneman in the full guard. Referee Herb Dean stands up the fighters after some inactivity and Brenneman immediately charges at Roberts, Brenneman tries to drag Roberts to the ground and he eats a few elbows. Roberts forces a scramble and he locks in an inverted triangle choke on Brenneman as the round ends.
Round Three
The round begins with Brenneman scoring a fast trip takedown on Roberts, Brenneman immediately gets side control on Roberts. Brenneman then starts landing a series of knee strikes to the body of Roberts, Brenneman attempts the crucifix again and Roberts blocks it. Brenneman then starts landing a series of short range punches on Roberts, Brenneman changes plans a returns to his knee strikes on Roberts. Roberts then finds a way to get Brenneman in his full guard before the referee stands them up for inactivity, Roberts immediately goes for a takedown and fails as Brenneman winds up on top of him in the full guard. Brenneman then starts landing some sporadic punches on Roberts, Roberts nearly forces a tap out with a kimura on Brenneman as the round ends.
Fight Result: Charlie Brenneman def. Daniel Roberts by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)
Post fight interview with Charlie Brenneman, who says he should have done more with his striking and he says he is working towards finishing fights.
Fight Thoughts: This was your standard Charlie Brenneman fight with lots of good takedowns, but nothing else after the fight does hit the ground. Daniel Roberts nearly stole the fight twice with submission attempts in the final two rounds, but could not make it work.
Fight #5 - UFC Lightweight Division Fight
Habib Nurmagomedov (16-0-0) vs. Kamal Shalorus (7-1-2)

Round One
The round begins with Nurmagomedov lunging at Shalorus with a punching combination, Shalorus connects with a left before the grappling begins. Shalorus stalks Nurmagomedov and he attempts a high head kick on him, Shalorus goes for another high kick and fails. Nurmagomedov connects with an odd looking left in the center of the octagon, Shalorus responds by nailing Nurmagomedov with a leg kick. Shalorus goes for a takedown and he eats a left uppercut that drops him, Nurmagomedov starts ravaging Shalorus with a ton of ground and pound. Nurmagomedov decides to go on the ground with Shalorus and he quickly gets side control, the fighters stand up and both fighters start swinging wildly at each other. Nurmagomedov pops Shalorus with another right and they both exchange more punches as the round ends.
Round Two
The round begins with Shalorus immediately attacking Nurmagomedov with a leg kick, Nurmagomedov then scores an ugly takedown on Shalorus. Nurmagomedov advances to the half guard position on Shalorus after utilizing some ground and pound, the referee stands up the fighters after inactivity and Nurmagomedov puts Shalorus right back on the ground. Nurmagomedov moves between side control and half guard on Shalorus, Nurmagomedov barely lands a right to the face of Shalorus after a brief scramble. The referee stands up the fighters again after inactivity and Shalorus connects with a left to Nurmagomedov’s face, Nurmagomedov lands two uppercuts on Shalorus as the round ends.
Round Three
The round begins with Nurmagomedov landing an awkward looking right to the face of Shalorus, Nurmagomedov then stuffs a Shalorus takedown attempt. Nurmagomedov scores a takedown on Shalorus and lands in the arm in guillotine, Nurmagomedov escapes and he immediately attacks Shalorus with a few hammer fists. Nurmagomedov eventually transitions to full mount on Shalorus, Shalorus gives up his back and Nurmagomedov locks in a rear naked choke and a tap out follows.
Fight Result: Habib Nurmagomedov def. Kamal Shalorus by submission via rear naked choke (2:08, R3)
Post fight interview with Habib Nurmagomedov, who says (through a translator) that he thanks the UFC for bringing him in and he worked on his game plan with his father.
Fight Thoughts: This was an excellent UFC debut for Habib Nurmagomedov, who looked impressive in all three rounds of the fight. Habib Nurmagomedov also becomes the first person to submit Kamal Shalorus, who also competed in the WEC before the UFC.

Fight #6 - UFC Middleweight Division Fight
Jorge Rivera (18-9-0) vs. Eric Schafer (14-6-2)
Referee: Herb Dean
Round One
The round begins with Schafer immediately grabbing a hold of Rivera and dragging him to the ground after a struggle, Schafer then moves to side control and attacks Rivera with ground and pound. Rivera finds a way to stand up and is immediately put back on the ground by Schafer, Schafer then transitions to half guard on Rivera after landing a couple of strikes. Rivera then finds a way to get Schafer into his full guard after a short scramble, Rivera continues to comeback by reversing Schafer and getting top position himself. Schafer attempts to go for a submission on Rivera as the round ends.
Round Two
The round begins with Schafer going for another quick takedown and Rivera catches him with some strikes, Schafer is eventually dropped and Rivera pounds on him until the referee jumps in.
Fight Result: Jorge Rivera def. Eric Schafer by TKO via strikes (1:31, R2)
Post fight interview with Jorge Rivera, who talks about his UFC career and discusses his decision to retire from professional competition.
Fight Thoughts: What a perfect ending to a great MMA career for Jorge Rivera, who was one of the better middleweights the UFC had on the roster. As for Eric Schafer, that’s two losses in a row in his UFC comeback and a release could be coming shortly.
