Welcome to the PWInsiderXtra.com live coverage of UFC On FX 1, live from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. The preliminary card (six fights) will start at 6pm EST. and go until 9pm EST. on Fuel TV, while the main card on FX (four fights) will go from 9pm EST. to 11pm EST.

Here is tonight’s fight card…

UFC Lightweight Division Fight: Jim Miller vs. Melvin Guillard

UFC Welterweight Division Fight: Josh Neer vs. Duane Ludwig

UFC Bantamweight Division Fight: Mike Easton vs. Jared Papazian

UFC Heavyweight Division Fight: Pat Barry vs. Christian Morecraft

Fight #7 - UFC Heavyweight Division Fight

Pat Barry (6-4-0) vs. Christian Morecraft (7-2-0)

Referee: Herb Dean

Round One

The round begins with Morecraft working his jabs on Barry, Morecraft then grabs Barry’s leg during a kick attempt to get the fight on the ground. Morecraft gets near back control on Barry, Barry then gets back to his feet after shaking Morecraft off of him. Barry then returns to attacking Morecraft with a series of leg kicks, Morecraft charges at Barry and gets a single leg takedown. Morecraft immediately gets full mount on Barry to attempt a head and arm choke, Morecraft then gets back control and he attempts an arm bar on Barry. Barry finds a way to escape and the fight goes back to the feet, Barry is quick to attempt a head kick on Morecraft. Barry then drops Morecraft with a left hook and he follows it up with several more strikes until the referee jumps in.

Fight Result: Pat Barry def. Christian Morecraft by TKO via strikes (3:38, R1)

Post fight interview with Pat Barry, who says that he is sorry to have to live through many choke outs to get to this point and jokingly said boxer James Toney is his ground game coach.

Fight Thoughts: This was easily the best performance of Pat Barry’s career since he knocked out Antoni Hardonk a few years back. With his seemingly improving ground game, Pat Barry could find himself in the heavyweight title mix with a few more victories.

Fight #8 - UFC Bantamweight Division Fight

Mike Easton (11-1-0) vs. Jared Papazian (14-6-0-1NC)

Referee: Mario Yamasaki

Round One

The round begins with both fighters grabbing a hold of each other and swinging away wildly, Easton then forces Papazian against the cage wall before eating an elbow strike. While battling for the under hooks, Easton and Papazian both land a series of knee strikes at each other. The referee separates the fighters after inactivity and both fighters exchange leg kicks, Papazian then pops Easton with a straight left. Easton then throws a five punch combination at Papazian, both fighters then exchange more legs kicks after Easton missed a knee strike. Easton then barely misses a hard knee strike to the skull of Papazian, Papazian attempts to slow Easton down with leg kicks and Easton responds with one of his own. Both fighters grab each other and swing wildly as the round ends.

Round Two

The round begins with Papazian landing a two punch combination on Easton, Papazian then connects with a left hook on a charging Easton. Papazian and Easton then exchange a series of strikes near the cage wall, Easton then hits Papazian with a leg kick/punch combination. The fighters lock up near the cage wall and exchange some elbows and knee strikes, the referee separates the fighters after inactivity and Papazian lands a punching combination on Easton. Easton then scores a reverse takedown on Papazian and he gets the half guard, Easton quickly transitions to side control on Papazian. Papazian finds a way to get back to his feet and then he eats a knee strike, Easton reverses another takedown attempt as the round ends.

Round Three

The round begins with both fighters launching wild strikes at each others, both fighters then battle for position on the cage wall. The referee separates the fighters after inactivity, Easton then accidentally nails Papazian in the testicles and the fight is halted. The fight resumes with Easton powering Papazian up against the cage wall, they separate and Easton nails Papazian with a body blow. Both fighters exchange some short range strikes and Easton gets the better of it, Easton then rocks Papazian with a leaping right to the face. Papazian responds by catching Easton with a right uppercut, Easton then catches Papazian with a nice leg kick. Papazian responds by landing a multiple strike combination of his own, Easton then stuns Papazian with a right. Papazian eats a leg kicks before he starts landing a combination of his own, Papazian lands another uppercut on Easton as the round ends.

Fight Result: Mike Easton def. Jared Papazian by majority decision (29-28, 30-27, 29-29)

Post fight interview with Mike Easton, who says that Jared Papazian is a tough competitor and they both wanted to entertain the fans.

Fight Thoughts: This was a very good battle and Jared Papazian looked really good in his UFC debut, which came on short notice. Mike Easton instantly becomes a contender in the bantamweight division and he may not have to wait long for a title fight.

Fight #9 - UFC Welterweight Division Fight

Josh Neer (32-10-1) vs. Duane Ludwig (21-11-0)

Referee: Josh Rosenthal

Round One

The round begins with both fighters testing each others range with some jabs, Neer then bullies Ludwig into the cage wall. Ludwig breaks free and he nails Neer with a knee strike to the face, Ludwig follows it up by catching Neer with a knee to the rib cage. The fight is then briefly halted as Neer lost his mouth piece, Ludwig then catches Neer with counter rights to the body. Neer eventually completes a single leg takedown on Ludwig, Neer eventually gains the half guard position on Ludwig. Ludwig tries to escape and he gets caught in a guillotine choke and the referee stops the fight as Ludwig goes out cold.

Fight Result: Josh Neer def. Duane Ludwig by submission via guillotine choke (3:04, R1)

Post fight interview with Josh Neer, who says that the win was a good one and he wanted to stand up more but felt it was better to go to the ground.

Fight Thoughts: Both fighters held true to their word for most of the fight and simply slugged it out, but then it went to the ground. Once the fight hit the ground, Josh Neer was in his universe and he made Duane Ludwig pay the price by putting him to sleep.

UFC President Dana White is on screen with John Anik, they basically hype the Carlos Condit/Nick Diaz UFC Primetime specials leading up to their UFC Interim Welterweight Title Fight.

Main Event - UFC Lightweight Division Fight

Jim Miller (20-3-0) vs. Melvin Guillard (46-10-3-1NC)

Referee: Herb Dean

Round One

The round begins with both fighters testing each other with early strikes, Guillard then attempts two flying knee strikes and fails. Guillard then drops Miller with a left hook and some follow up strikes, Guillard then nails Miller with a knees trike. Miller recovers to bully Guillard up against the cage wall, Guillard breaks free by hitting Miller with a knee to the head. Guillard then resets himself and he catches Miller with a right, Miller counters a Guillard flying knee strike and he scores a takedown. Miller jumps to back control on Guillard as he tries to stand up, Miller then locks in a rear naked choke and a tap out follows.

Fight Result: Jim Miller def. Melvin Guillard by submission via rear naked choke (2:04, R1)

Post fight interview with Jim Miller, who says that Melvin Guillard nailed him hard with the knee strikes and he feels that he is the most dangerous lightweight in the world.

Fight Thoughts: This was a major victory for Jim Miller because he had to battle through the early onslaught from Melvin Guillard before gaining victory. Sadly, this was a typical Melvin Guillard fight in that he was awesome standing and completely lost when the fight hit the ground.
