The 2011 Quebec Wrestling Awards and HOF inductees were released today. El Generico won the Wrestler of the year award and the Edouard Carpentier Memorial Award for best flying wrestler. LuFisto was named Female Wrestler of the year. The Super Smash Bros. were named best tag team and Quebec City’s NSPW won the Promotion of the Year award. Kevin Steen’s storyline with ROH was the News Story of the year.
Also, former wrestler mainly from the 40’s and 50’s, Larry Moquin, was voted in the Quebec Wrestling HOF as well as “The Original” Sheik. Moquin was second to Yvon Robert in popularity but never achieved what Robert did. Still, he was a huge name back in those years and even booked the territory under Eddie Quinn at one point. He also wrestled in France for a certain period of time, discovering with Frank Valois a young Edouard Carpentier. He stopped wrestling in the 60’s but came back in the 70’s for a last run with Grand-Prix Wrestling. The Sheik mainly wrestled in Montreal at the end of the 60’s and early 70’s for the Rougeau’s Allstar Wrestling, wrestling Jacques Rougeau Sr on numerous occasions. The two of them wrestled the co main-event of the July 1972 Jarry Park show that drew 26 237 fans. He was one of the most hated wrestlers at the time as he was managed by Montreal’s famous manager, Eddy “The Brain” Creatchman.
