AZW kicked off 2012 with A New Years Bash which was live from the FilCom Center in Waipahu, Hawaii.
The show started off with a 4 way elimination match between Jet Akuma, Mark Anarchy, "Rock Hard" Rocko Shinoda and a mystery opponent who turned out to be the mystery man from Okinawa SABAKI (who was last scene back in June of last year). SABAKI return was abruptly ended when Akuma pinned him for the first elimination. SABAKI wasn't too happy about that and attacked Akuma. The two brawled to back which force the referee to count Akuma out for the next elimination. This left former tag team partners from the early days of AZW left as Mark Anarchy and Rocko Shinoda battled it out. Shinoda rallied the crowd but in the end it was 2011 Most Hated Wrestler Mark Anarchy who was the winner.
The Sexy Aleki and Kaimana crossed paths once before when fans picked this as one of the matches at "Anything Goes" in November. Aleki was the winner and here was Kaimana's chance to even things up and to start 2012 in style. With the fans firmly on his side Kaimana got to even things out with a win over The Sexy Aleki. Aleki through a huge fit after the match since his attempt to cheat to win was countered by Kaimana's.
Kenjiro Katahira vs Bobby "The Lightning" Bolt was just as intense and hard hitting as AZW fans expected it to be. However fans were hoping to see a clear cut winner but instead they had SABAKI interfere to attack Bolt. The referee called for the bell as SABAKI & Katahira attacked Bolt. However place went crazy for the high flying Jet Akuma who made the save in spectacular fashion with a top rop moonsault onto SABAKI & Katahira on the outside. Akuma came to aide of his former partner Bolt the same way Bolt did for him a few months back.
In the semi main event AZW Tag Team Champions Invincible (Kaniala & Kory Oliver) defended the titles against Urban Swag (TKO & Ali Shabazz). In a really good match that showcased tag team wrestling it was Urban Swag who shocked the fans in the FilCom and Invincible by winning the AZW Tag Team Titles. The new champs celebrated with the crowd as Invincible looked on with disbelief.
In the main event AZW Heavyweight Champion "Mr. Athletic" Jeff Cobb took on "Hotstuff" Kris Kavanaugh in a rematch from Battleclash 7 but with the add "2 out of 3 falls" stipulation. The two continued where they left off and didn't let up. With the match tied at one fall a piece both men were down. Out of nowhere "Hard" Knox Harrington (who was scheduled to debut in March) ran into the ring and laid out both Kavanaugh & Cobb. The referee tried to intervene and he was laid out too. The fans booed as Harrington left the ring in carnage. Not wanting to leave the fans without a winner the match continued with a new referee and in the end it was Jeff Cobb who won to retain the AZW Title.
At the end of the show DDB came out and announced that on March 3rd the four men joining him to San Francisco to take on APW (All Pro Wrestling) in the "Pacific Challenge" would be AZW Heavyweight Champion "Mr. Athletic" Jeff Cobb, Kaimana, Mark Anarchy & Bobby "The Lightning" Bolt.
