One of the more notable MMA trilogies of the modern era has a date set for its conclusion.
UFC co-owner and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta announced on Thursday via Twitter that the two top dogs of the bantamweight division will meet on July 7th in Las Vegas, at an event tentatively titled UFC 148.
Faber (26-5) and Cruz (19-1) have met twice before. Their first fight went the way of Faber, as he submitted Cruz via guillotine choke in only 1:38 at WEC 26 in March of 2007. In their second bout, which took place in July 2011 at UFC 132, it was Cruz who left victorious, earning a unanimous decision.
Since their last bout, each man has defeated one other opponent. Faber made quick work of Brian Bowles at UFC 139, whereas Cruz went the distance with Demetrious Johnson at UFC Live 6.
The two men will coach the 15th season of the ‘Ultimate Fighter’, which kicks off on March 9.
