NATE MARQUARDT SIGNS WITH STRIKEFORCE

By Joe Lebeau on 2/21/2012 10:42 PM

Nate "The Great" Marquardt has joined the Strikeforce roster.

Announced this evening on "UFC Tonight", Nate joins Strikeforce's welterweight division. Marquardt has signed a multi-fight deal with Strikeforce and his first fight is expected to be for the vacant Strikeforce welterweight championship, with his opponent expected to be Tyron Woodley.

Marquardt (31-10-2), last competed at UFC 128 in March of last year, defeating Dan Miller via unanimous decision. Shortly after, Marquardt was set to take on Rick Story at UFC on Versus 4, but he was removed from the fight, and the promotion, on the eve of the fight due to elevated testosterone levels. Marquardt then signed with BAMMA, but several delayed fight dates prompted the fighter to ask for his release, which was granted.

PWInsiderXTRA will have more information on this story, including Nate's Strikeforce debut date, as it becomes available.
