UFC veteran Damian Maia has announced that his time as a middleweight has come to an end as he is now heading to the welterweight division. Maia once challenged for the UFC Middleweight Championships, but lost a lopsided decision to Anderson Silva at UFC 112. Maia is coming off of a decision loss to Chris Weidman at UFC On Fox II, which may have prompted the change in weight class. While no date has been set for his welterweight debut, it is expected that Damian Maia will fight sometime this Summer.
