WHY VINCE MCMAHON NEEDS BROCK LESNAR BACK AND MORE

By Ford Denny on 3/31/2012 8:21 AM
This is a piece I wrote back on January 5th, 2012, shortly after Brock Lesnar retired from the UFC. I posted this writing on my personal blog at the time and with the rumors that the WWE is trying to bring in Brock for WrestleMania on Sunday, I felt it was the perfect time to publish this on PW Insider. This written off the premise of having Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar, and although that isn't going to happen, the point remains the same. VKM needs Brock Lesnar in the WWE. I'm a MAJOR supporter of Brock Lesnar and I feel that he NEEDS to get brought in, NOW. So, here's to hoping that Brock Lesnar and the WWE can reach a deal and we see him on Sunday night.

Why Vince Needs Brock

Simple: Ratings. Money. All the things Vince McMahon loves, Brock Lesnar can provide. All the things that Vince once had, Brock can bring back to him. Remember those days, Vince? Yeah, it's been awhile, I know. Those days can comeback if you can bring back Brock Lesnar.

So, why exactly does Vince need Brock? I have not one, not two, not three, but FOUR reasons why Brock Lesnar needs to go back to New York and earn a paycheck.

REASON 1: BROCK HAS ALL THE TOOLS

Even with his past health issues, Lesnar is a monster, or as they called him back in the WWE, "manster." He's a naturally gifted athlete, and he can do everything in the ring. He has the speed, the agility, the timing, and he can carry his end of a wrestling match. Anyone who has ever watched Brock knows he's legit. Let's not forget Brock's selling skills. For such a big man, he could sell like nobody's business. His mic skills, while they weren't terrible, left a lot to be desired, but there's where Paul Heyman came in. Why the WWE ever made Paul turn on Big Show, I have no idea, but if Brock has Heyman doing his talking, he's the complete package. Brock made the title seem legitimate. No one ever "wins" titles in wrestling: they are given, but when Brock was champ, it seemed like he was a legit champ, like no one in the company could beat him even if they wanted to.

REASON 2: BROCK'S QUALITY OF MATCHES

It's been almost eight years since we've seen Brock Lesnar perform in a WWE ring. Go back and watch his PPV matches -- they were incredible. Last night, I watched Brock vs. Rock from SummerSlam 2002 when Brock became the youngest WWE champion of all-time. Outstanding! That's the only word I can use to describe it. Now, I'll give credit where credit is due: The Rock was just as good as Brock Lesnar, even if you take a look at his WrestleMania match against Kurt Angle. That was another excellent match, despite Brock's botched shooting star press. That just seemed to add to how great the match was. Watch the matches with Brock and Undertaker. All of them were great. Again, I know what you'll say: "Come on, he was working with the Undertaker!" Yes, you're right -- he was; however, Brock didn't have to be carried through the match like Hogan had to be carried with his match with HBK. He held his own, and even, perhaps, outshined some of the big names he worked with -- depending on who you ask. Oh yeah, before I forget: that match with Goldberg at WrestleMania that many people tend to shit on wasn't that bad. Go watch it now; you'll see what I mean.

REASON 3: RATINGS

(Credit:WrestlingForum.com)

Let's take a look at the ratings when Brock was champ. After all, ratings is the name of the game. Without them, there's no company. When Brock was champ from August 25, 2002, to November 17, 2002, the average Smackdown rating was 3.49. From March 30, 2003, to August 23, 2003, the average Smackdown rating was 3.31. His final title reign from July 16, 2003, to February 15, 2004, the average Smackdown rating was 3.39. Do I need to remind you that this is a TAPED show? Let's compare that to today. The average Smackdown rating for 2011 was 1.95. How about 2010? It was 1.81. In fact, the Smackdown rating has been on the decline since Brock left the company. Coincidence? Maybe. I'm willing to bet that his departure from the company didn't help.

REASON 4: WE MIGHT GET PAUL HEYMAN BACK

Ask any fan that was around for the original ECW and Paul Heyman is the best thing in wrestling since, well, wrestling. When Heyman is around wrestling, great things happen. What he did for OVW can't be measured. What he did for Smackdown before the boss's daughter took over has yet to duplicated. When he was Brock's manager, Brock was hot and never was hotter. The wrestling business needs Paul Heyman; Paul Heyman doesn't need the wrestling business. I'm just predicting that if Brock came back, Paul would come with him. I hope he would. If you don't know who Paul Heyman is, Google him, and if he does come with Brock, you'll be thanking him.

So there you have it: my four reasons why Vince needs Brock. Make the call to Brock, Vince. Make the call to Dana, Vince. Call anyone that will answer your call. Get Brock back in the WWE. Vince loves Twitter so much, so start using the hash tag, #BringBackThePain. I would love to hope that Vince could get Brock back in the WWE for this year's WrestleMania. I know it's a stretch, but I hope it can happen. Brock vs. Taker at WrestleMania would make this the most ordered WrestleMania in history.

How's that for a bold statement?

And that's just my opinion
