Not only was the place was sold out, but the crowd was hot and ready for some good ol' pro wrestling.
What made it an even more special night, we were honored to have former AWA champions Greg Gagne and Jim Brunzell, along with the Living Legend and undefeated AWA champion Larry Zbyszko, Legendary wrestling announcer Slick Mick Karch,(who also received an award from Steel Domain), along with the beautiful, stunning Ms. Christy Hemme.
The action kicked off with "6% Bodyfat" Rob James vs. Craven Knight with Knight getting the duke. An excellent opener with two young men who make things happen in the ring.
Next up...Sammy "The Bulldog" Savard defeated Red Lightning. Savard is indeed a bulldog and even had Christy Hemme scampering as he hit the ring. Red Lightning gave it his best, but could just not keep up with the brutal Savard.
The third match of the night bought us the women as Heather Hallberg went up against Miss Natural in a back and forth match that featured a lot of outside interference from Hallbergs husband/whipping boy until Hallberg in error nailed her partner and gave the crowd favorite Miss Natural the opening she needed to pick up the win.
It's intermission time and a chance to meet The High Flyers, Larry Zbyszko, and Christy Hemme.
I must admit that at this point I am very impressed by the work that been put into this event. And will tell you that Mr. Gagne, Mr. Brunzell, Mr. Zbyszko, and Ms. Hemme were as gracious and welcoming as they could be.
Intermission ends and up next, Robbie Thunder facing off against Renny D with another solid back and forth match with Renny D getting the win.
Next up, a match featuring two of best young wrestlers I have seen in a very long time. It's time for Ryan Cruz vs. Ariya Daivari as these two show everyone in attendance what professional wrestling is all about.
Excellent back and forth match with both men showing us mat skills along with the ability to take to the air as well. By far the best match of the night so far with Ryan Cruz getting the victory.
In my opinion, if TNA Open Fight Night were legit, these two men, Daivari and Cruz would be getting a shot because I do believe that they could match up with anyone in TNA right now !
Time for the main event of the evening as Minnesota native and Heavy On Wrestling heavyweight champion Ben Sailer takes on a very nasty and powerful former NWA champion in "Scrap Iron" Adam Pearce.
Pearce is a much bigger man, but Sailer is giving his best as the two go at it in and out of the ring.
Another back and forth match with the finish coming after the ref is knocked out of the ring along with Sailer.
Out of nowhere, Greg Gagne jumps up on the ring apron and after a little taunting back and forth, Gagne is in the ring and reverses an attempted whip into the corner.
Gagne with a back body drop on Pierce as he comes out of the corner, and then as Pierce gets back to his feet...BAM, he is nailed with a Gagne dropkick.
The crowd is on it's feet not believing what we are seeing.
As Pierce lay on his back, Sailer makes his way to the top rope and hits a moonsault on the prone Pierce as Gagne pushes the ref back into the ring as he then makes the one, two, three count.
Your winner and still HOW Champion, Ben Sailer.
Can't help but see Mr. Gagne back near the autograph tables with a big grin on his face.
I have been to alot of indy shows in the area, but have to say that I have not enjoyed a show as much as I did this show. And from what I was hearing and seeing, everyone in attendence felt the same way.
We saw professional wrestlers who were there and busted their asses not for a big payday, but because they love what they do.
Hats off to Ed Hellier and the entire crew at Steel Domain Wrestling. They left us wanting more
