Longtime MMA veteran Akihiro Gono has announced his retirement from the sport following a knockout loss to Michael Chandler at Bellator 67. Gono has fought some of the best MMA fighters throughout his career, including Matt Hughes, Ivan Salaverry, Murilo Rua, Chael Sonnen, Mauricio Rua, Dan Henderson, Hector Lombard, Gegard Mousasi, Dan Hardy, Jon Fitch, Michael Chandler and others. Gono has also fought in top MMA promotions like the UFC, PRIDE, Bellator, Shooto, Pancrase, Sengoku and others. Gono started off his career on April 23rd, 1994 with a loss to Yasunori Okuda and ended with a loss to Michael Chandler at Bellator 67 on May 4th, 2012.
