As an exclusive to Starship-Pained, Continental Wrestling Federation’s play by by announcer Ryan McGavic agreed to answer some questions about their great promotion and to talk about John ‘Morrison’ Hennigan’s upcoming match on Aug 4rd vs. Sonjay Dutt.
So let’s welcome Ryan!
Q. A lot of us aren’t familiar with Continental Wrestling Federation in Fla. Tell us where you’re
from and how you got started with the business and with this promotion?
A. I am originally from Oregon. There I was the head of the production team for a few local
promotions there. I was in charge of their television side including coordinating the production
teams, getting time slots, editing weekly programming. A year or two after that, I joined the
broadcast booth where I was a play-by-play announcer, calling matches involving wrestlers like Steve
Corino, the Blue Meanie, Mike Modest, among others. I got started in the Continental Wrestling
Federation because I believed in its mission of recognizing the importance of pushing the product of
wrestling and not simply skits and interviews and calling that so-called entertainment. I also
really liked the fact that the product would heavily feature local talent from other states. It
allowed wrestlers to be seen in front of audiences who wouldn't normally be able to see them.
Q. Could you tell us about the matches? I see there is the US Championship Title match featuring
John ‘Morrison’ Hennigan and Sonjay Dutt, along with CWF Championship Title match to name some of
the matches.
The matches at SuperClash are an interesting mix of local talent and talent that has experience in
the big organizations. The variety in styles allows for interesting matches and keeps audiences on
the edge of the seats. There is a tag team championship bout involving the team of Donny and Johnny
Fuggedaboudit, two "guidos" of sorts who simply wish to please their mom and family back home in
little Italy...on the other side of the ring stands two cocky individuals who already say they have
the championships in their bags and on the way home. JD Maverick, who has wrestled all over the
country in OVW, WWE, among others and tag team partner Wes Brisco, son of legendary Jerry Brisco,
who shares the OVW and WWE experiences.
The Southern Stomper Luke Hawx, who has competed in extreme fashion with XPW and the short lived MTV promotion Wrestling Society X collides with former TNA talent and Orlando resident Jesse Neal in
what should be a knock out affair.
Another highlight match is a Breakout Battle Royal. This match is especially special as it features
the up and coming students of the Team Vision Dojo out of Orlando. The school is run by Chasyn
Rance, Larry Zbyszko and Scott Hall. This match is a great way for the students to rise to the occasion and shine above the events other talent!
Q. Sounds fantastic and what a mix of different talent and styles! How did John’s involvement with promotion happen?
A. The idea for the event had been a work in progress for some time and the company was looking for a
great talent. When the promoters heard about Morrison's departure from WWE, they immediately jumped at the opportunity to include John!
Q. Will he work with you all again in the future?
A. The company is already in talks about future events!
Q. Will there be a DVD?
A. Of course!
Q. Good to hear that we’ll be able to see it. Tell us about the Hall of Fame.
A. The Hall of Legends was an idea that came up about a year or so ago. We had heard about stories
about the WWE's Hall of Fame and how some people were or have not been included because they are on bad terms with the company or ARE included because they simply have a DVD coming out and are simply used as a marketing platform as well as those inductees, specifically celebrities who may get
chokeslammed once or twice and somehow that constitutes induction into a hall of fame.
The Hall of Legends is different because it recognizes those who have contributed years and years of
experience to the sport, the individuals who shaped the industry into what it is today whether or
not they may have had some bad press during their careers because no one is perfect. The 2012
inductions have been the first recorded world champion in history, George Hackenschmidt, Harley
Race, The Fabulous Moolah, and Sensational Sherri.
Q. And tell us about tickets, venue and if they’ll be more events in the future.
A. SuperClash takes place on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at the Downtown Orlando Recreation Complex,
located at 649 Livingston Avenue in Orlando, FL 32801. Tickets are $5 for bleacher seating and $8
for floor seating. Tickets can be purchased through our website, www.CWFContinental.com. Future
events are in the works including SuperClash II so definitely keep a lookout on our website and
Facebook page/CWFContinental!
