BELLATOR 72 SPIKE.COM PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 7/16/2012 9:38 PM

The second wing of the 2012 Bellator Summer Series takes place this Friday Night with an event airing on both Spike.com and MTV2. The preliminary card takes place first and it is headlined by a UFC veteran and multi-time Bellator tournament competitor. Also, there are several fighters looking to make an impact on the national scene that will see action on the preliminary card.

Kicking off the action is a welterweight division fight as Ryan DeRocher (3-3-0) competes against Julien Williams (2-1-0). Ryan DeRocher has rotated wins and losses throughout his MMA career, mainly competing in the Real Fighting Championships. Julien Williams had a two fight run in the Xtreme Fighting Championships, splitting both of his fights in the promotion. Ryan DeRocher needs the victory to get a winning record, but it will be Julien Williams winning to give him a losing record.

Lightweights step into the cage next as Paul “The Wheel” Barrow (4-2-0) is in action against Jason “The Cap” Capelluci (6-2-0). Paul Barrow has only won one of his last three, having defeated Fred Weatherly at Art Of Fighting 10 in December 2010. Jason Capelluci enters the fight riding a six fight winning streak, which includes a victory in the Xtreme Fighting Championships promotion. Jason Capelluci is riding a way to big wave of momentum right now and he will keep it going on Friday Night.

A featherweight division fight is next as Matt McCook (8-5-0) does battle with Shanon “The Heartbreak Kid” Slack (4-0-0). Matt McCook has only won one of his last four, but he does hold a victory over UFC veteran Alex Caceres. Shanon Slack is currently undefeated in Bellator competition, having defeated Booker Arthur at Bellator 69. This will be an exciting featherweight division contest to check out, but it will be Shanon Slack remaining undefeated in the end.

Another welterweight division fight is up next as Raul “Smash Mode” Amaya (9-1-0) battles Kenny “Kaveman” Moss (5-2-0). Raul Amaya is coming off of his first career loss, which came to UFC veteran Ben Saunders at Bellator 63. Kenny Moss enters the fight riding a two fight winning streak, having defeated both Bruno Reis and Richie McCloskey. Kenny Moss has the momentum heading into this fight, but it will be Raul Amaya getting back into form on Friday Night.

Up next is a heavyweight division fight as Chris “Beast Boy” Barnett (7-1-0) faces Tommy “Trauma” Sauer (25-12-0). Chris Barnett enters the fight riding a two fight winning streak and he holds a victory over M-1 Heavyweight Champion Kenny Garner. Tommy Sauer has won seven of his last eight fights, most competing in the Art Of Fighting promotion. This should be nothing short of a hard hitting affair, but it will be Tommy Sauer getting the duke in the end.

Headlining this portion of the card is a welterweight division fight as Ben “Killa B” Saunders (13-5-0) takes on “Mr. Unbreakable” Brian Warren (18-15-0). Ben Saunders has competed in two Bellator Welterweight Tournaments, making it to both the finals (2011) and semi-finals (2012). Brian Warren enters the fight riding a five fight winning streak, with three victories coming in the King Of The Cage promotion. Despite having an experience disadvantage, it will be Ben Saunders picking up the victory on Friday Night.
