LOOKING AT THE GOALS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF RAW

RAW - 17/09/2012            E: revinsamuel@rogers.com
What needs to be accomplished on this week’s Raw
After a pretty strong NOC, WWE has six weeks to prepare for HITC, which means they will probably spend five weeks plugging everything non wrestling related. Hopefully they surprise us and get the jump on the HITC push
Show Breakdown

  1. I still don’t understand why Triple H is the second star in the intro after John Cena and before CM Punk. Everyone says the internet hates on him too much; sometimes I think the guy is cut too much slack.

  1. Heyman speaking the truth in this promo, but then says the fans refuse to give Punk respect. I’m not sure why WWE tries to play this card. Vince is in more denial than an alcoholic about some of the characters he is making movies with.

  1. Cena enters the picture and plays the standard rise above the bitching card. It be nice if Cena was actually human for once eh Vince? Make movies, not fairytales. Oh wait Vince wants to be Disney, my bad.

  1. AJ’s new outfit is a big improvement, but she still shouldn’t be in the GM role.

  1. Punk teams up with Del Rio against Sheamus and AJ...”wait for it”...John Cena to mild applause.

  1. The best part of this was Heyman’s reaction to AJ

  1. We see Cara and Rey backstage walking and they play Cara’s music. I wonder if that’s a sign of where Rey is in that hierarchy. Sin Cara’s reaction to losing the IC title match last night made me wonder if it was the first seed to a potential heel turn.

  1. Cole enthusiastically gives props to the King before JBL comes down to join commentary. I really enjoyed JBL on commentary last night and as JR comes out, I am truly looking forward to this three man booth.

  1. Rey and Sin Cara vs Primo and Epico and this could be good.

  1. WWE production giving us some nice camera shots of Rosa

  1. I’m pleased to see Vince letting JR speak alot during this opening match. I hope it lasts.

  1. Rey and Sin Cara win again. I wonder if were headed to a Rey and Sin vs Bryan and Kane match.

  1. I guess not as the PTP attack Rey and Sin Cara. This isn’t the feud I was expecting. Perhaps it can do something for the PTP, but we know in the end they’ll be jobbing out.

  1. Titus is tremendous on the mic. Darren Young is his Marty Jannetty.

  1. Titus is upset; he knows not to be smile. Darren on the other hand...

  1. Beth Phoenix in the ring and WWE might as well future endeavor her and let her go to TNA. Total waste of talent.

  1. I am a little shocked that WWE is letting Layla be a smart babyface here who isn’t falling for Eve’s antics.

  1. I liked Layla on commentary this week. The best a female has been on commentary in a while. The post match stuff where Eve got in her face and she just stood there was just stupid though. Typical WWE, build the drama.

  1. I like that WWE is having the winners and losers from last night on commentary tonight with Cesaro following Layla on commentary. I am not sure if it should be in back to back matches, but that might be a nitpick.

  1. Cesaro very smooth on commentary during this Brodus-Heath match.

  1. JBL is so good on commentary. He speaks the truth as he calls Miz’s talk show out for being boring as the crowd chants it.

  1. Ryback comes out tears apart Miz’s set and what a terrible segment. I think that might be it for Miz Talk.

  1. Following Miz with Santino on a three hour show. This hasn’t been a bad show so far, but the only entertainment is the commentary.

  1. Cole calls Ziggler beating Santino a “big victory”.

  1. We get a Smackdown rebound of Wade Barrett’s promo from Smackdown. Smart move to begin showcasing him on Raw.

  1. It looks like Barrett is going to wrestle on Raw as he comes out to that terrible generic rock song. I’m waiting for Kevin Dunn to realize this one isn’t working.

  1. I wouldn’t use Gabriel in the role as a feeder for Barrett. I think he’s got upside.

  1. Good to see Cole bringing up the Nexus relationship between Barrett and Gabriel. I wonder if he would do that if Ross wasn’t there.

  1. I can’t believe the vocal males in the audience were able to get a “We want Nexus” chant going.

  1. Barrett and Gabriel getting some extended time here. I guess that’s what happens when you have a three hour Raw.

  1. This has been some kind of Raw so far. It’s mainly been matches involving the undercard talent, but it’s not doing anything for me even though all these guys and girls need time to develop.

  1. Jared from Subway makes his annual Raw appearance.

  1. We get Cena and Cena Junior backstage. Who gets the bad comedy first?

  1. Looks like its Sheamus. Terrible stuff.

  1. It fits Daniel Bryan’s character to go around screaming “I’m the tag team champions”. It doesn’t fit Kane’s. Typical WWE.

  1. Truth and Kofi a tag title match. I hope they didn’t eat those foot longs.

  1. Daniel Bryan probably going to get cheered out the ying yang. Vince is a stubborn man.

  1. Kane and Bryan win a better match than what we saw last night at NOC. JBL continues to be an absolute treat on commentary.

  1. Stephanie continues her Be a Star campaign. I actually mute this stuff. It’s no offense to the program, but there’s a time and place for everything and Raw isn’t it.

  1. Were getting the highly anticipated Orton-Tensai rematch...

  1. Is JBL the only man who can get away with talking about other promotions on WWE TV? As he mentions Tensai’s championships in New Japan.

  1. I know we all must have noticed this at this point, but ever since Orton came back from suspension, WWE has been the kick of showing all the women cheering for him.

  1. WWE shows us the graphic of Cena and Sheamus vs Punk and Del Rio and with the Cena and Sheamus graphic, Cena gets first photo billing over Sheamus. This company...

  1. Odd backstage segment with Punk, Heyman, Otunga and Del Rio.

  1. Ryder and Sandow up next and I am not sure if I just don’t have patience, but this show has been dragging since about midway through the first hour.

  1. JR, Cole and JBL are so bored during this Sandow-Ryder match that they’ve begun talking about each other’s twitter and Lady Gaga.

  1. Sandow and Ryder trying their best in this match. Sandow keeps kicking out at 1 and half at best even though Cole calls it 2.

  1. WWE giving Sandow and Ryder some extended time and near falls.

  1. As I write that Sandow gets the win.

  1. WWE going for ratings with this Lawler heart attack as they keep plugging the interview for next week. I don’t actually have a problem with this.

  1. I like what JBL is saying on commentary that while the Brogue Kick should have been reinstate, the timing was terrible.

  1. I love the new aspect of Punk’s character where he stands in the ring and just holds the title up.

  1. BTW I forgot to mention today, I am glad Michael Cole is playing the babyface role again. I question if it’s because JBL is playing a heel or if it will remain even when the King is back.

  1. I’m sorry JBl has to remain on commentary.

  1. As Cena tags in Sheamus, I am reminded of the fact that we’ve got Stephanie’s guy (Cena), with Triple H’s guy (Sheamus) against Heyman’s guy (Punk). Guess who’s the least protected of the three?

  1. Is WWE really doing the foot on the rope gimmick again after they just did it at Summerslam. This f’n company. Sixteen writers. A bubble lead by an almost 70 year old man who probably forgot that happened at Summerslam where they didn’t follow up with it at all. Absolutely asinine.
What this show accomplished?
The Good
The commentary. Commentary was a refreshing change of pace tonight. I thoroughly enjoyed it. No offense to the King of course.
•Titus O’Neal. Fabulous work on the mic
•Main event. Quality wrestling match
The Bad
•Kane’s character. As whacky as Kane’s character has been over the years, it just doesn’t fit that he’d go around screaming “I’m the tag team champion!” It’s lazy WWE once again using creative license
•Push of the lower tier. While I endorse that tonight’s Raw pushed alot of the lower and mid card guys, I am not necessarily enjoying the stories being told. The Miz segment was terrible. The PTP really don’t mean anything, because they aren’t allowed past a certain level. Sandow and Ryder? Orton and Tensai, Dolph and Santino, Beth and Layla? Where are the stories. Three hours, make some movies Vince!
What needs to happen next week on Raw?
•To no shocker, WWE couldn’t bring themselves to hype HITC this week. Hopefully they begin that push next week
•Storytelling. If you are going to feature a ton of mid card talent, give us some compelling stories
