STRIKEFORCE TO CLOSE SHOP FOLLOWING JANUARY EVENT

By David Tees on 11/8/2012 10:04 PM
The Strikeforce promotion will be shutting its doors for good this January, with Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Healy being the promotion's final event. The promotion has not run an event since August, which was headlined by Ronda Rousey and Sarah Kaufman. There was a pair of shows scheduled for both September and November, but injuries to the main event fighters lead to both shows being cancelled.

The final Strikeforce event will be headlined by Gilbert Melendez defending the Strikeforce Lightweight Title against Pat Healy. Other notables on the card in Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Luke Rockhold, Strikeforce Welterweight Champion Nate Marquardt and Daniel Cormier. Following the January event, whatever Strikeforce fighters that the UFC wants to bring over will be brought over, while the remaining will be released.
