Strikeforce Lightweight Champion Gilbert Melendez has not recovered from a shoulder injury and is off the January Strikeforce: Champions event, he was set to face Pat Healy. Healy became the top contender to the championship when he defeated Mizuto Hirota at Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy. There is no word yet on who will be replacing Melendez at the event, but an announcement is expected shortly. Strikeforce: Champions takes place on January 12th at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma with Luke Rockhold and Lorenz Larkin headlining.
