Welcome to the PWInsiderXtra.com live coverage of the Bellator 87 Preliminary Card, live from the Soaring Eagle Resort & Casino in Mount Pleasant, Michigan.

Fight #1 - Bellator Bantamweight Division Fight: Tony Zelinski def. Nick Kirk by split decision(29-28, 28-29, 27-30)

(Note: Fight began prior to advertised start time of 8pm EST.)

Fight #2 – Bellator Welterweight Division Fight

Ben Lagman (6-2-0) vs. Sam Quito (11-4-0)

Referee: Dan Miragliotta

Round One

The round begins with Lagman keeping Quito at bay by throwing some jabs, Lagman then starts attacking Quito with leg kicks. Lagman follows that up by kicking Quito in the midsection, Lagman then catches Quito with a spinning back kick. Quito messes up a takedown attempt and winds up underneath Lagman, Lagman follows that up by attacking Quito with ground and pound. The referee halts the fight to have a cut on Quito’s head looked at, the fight resumes with Lagman on top of Quito. Quito rolls for a leg submission and Lagman makes him pay with hammer fists, Quito continues to roll for leg locks on Lagman. Lagman eventually transitions to back control for a short time on Quito, Quito locks in a knee bar on Lagman and a tap out follows.

Fight Result: Sam Quito def. Ben Lagman by submission via knee bar (3:54, R1)

Fight #3 – Bellator Lightweight Division Fight

James Reese (8-4-0) vs. David Shepherd (5-2-0)

Referee: Jason Herzog

Round One

The round begins with Reese quickly popping Shepherd with a right, Shepherd responds by cracking Reese with leg kicks. Reese starts to grapple with Shepherd while landing some knee strikes, Shepherd reverses positions on Reese while landing some strikes. Reese eventually scores a takedown on Shepherd after avoiding a few strikes, Reese starts to attack Shepherd with some ground and pound. Reese briefly postures up while landing a few strikes, Shepherd attacks Reese with elbow strikes from his back. Reese continues to attack Shepherd with some more ground and pound as the round ends.

Round Two

The round begins with Shepherd cracking Reese with a hard kick to the body, Reese quick scores the takedown on Shepherd and he gets the open guard. Reese returns to attacking Shepherd with some ground and pound, Reese changes up the attack by nailing Shepherd with hammer fists. Reese occasionally postures up while hitting Shepherd with strikes, Reese attacks Shepherd with some more strikes as the round ends.

Round Three

The round begins with Reese nailing Shepherd with a knee strike before scoring a takedown, Reese quickly transitions to the half guard. Shepherd puts Reese back into the full guard just as quickly, Reese then starts to attack Shepherd with ground and pound. Reese decides to posture up and nail Shepherd with strikes, Shepherd tries to roll for an arm bar and instead gets a right from Reese. Shepherd tries to escape from the grasp of Reese and he fails, Reese continues to attack Shepherd with ground and pound as the round ends.

Fight Result: James Reese def. David Shepherd by unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27)

Fight #4 – Bellator Welterweight Division Fight

Amir Khillah (10-5-0) vs. John Schulz (4-0-0)

Referee: Dan Miragliotta

Round One

The round begins with Khillah immediately attacking Schulz with a lot of kicks, Khillah then takes Schulz down with a leg sweep. Khillah quickly starts to attack Schulz with some ground and pound, the fighters get back up and Schulz barely catches Khillah with a knee strike. Schulz then forces Khillah up against the cage wall, Khillah then charges at Schulz while throwing some strikes. Khillah then scores a takedown on Schulz and he quickly gains back control, Khillah goes for a rear naked choke and Schulz scrambles to get the fight standing. Schulz quickly forces Khillah up against the cage wall again, Khillah breaks and Schulz knee starts to buckle. Khillah then puts Schulz on the ground one more time, Khillah gains full mount after attacking Schulz with some ground and pound. Khillah then locks in a rear naked choke and a tap out follows.

Fight Result: Amir Khillah def. John Schulz by submission via rear naked choke (4:34, R1)

Fight #5 - Bellator Heavyweight Division Fight

Karl Etherington (7-0-0) vs. Jason Fish (2-2-0)

Referee: Dan Miragliotta

Round One

The round begins with Etherington putting Fish up against the cage wall while throwing strikes, Fish then scores a trip takedown on Etherington and gets side control. Fish then gets back control on Etherington after a short scramble, Etherington scrambles and finds himself on top of Fish. Fish uses a sweep and returns to top position on Etherington, Fish starts to attack Etherington with short range strikes. Etherington finds a way to get back up after eating more strikes from Fish, Fish then forces Etherington up against the cage wall. Fish then chases Etherington while landing some rights, Fish then rocks Etherington with a multi-punch combination. Etherington recovers and scores a takedown on Fish, Etherington starts to attack Fish with some ground and pound until the referee jumps in.

Fight Result: Karl Etherington def. Jason Fish by submission via strikes (3:45, R1)

Fight #6 - Bellator Lightweight Division Fight

Jason Fischer (5-1-0) vs. Sevak Magakian (12-3-0)

Referee: Jason Herzog

Round One

The round begins with Fischer catching Magakian with a right, Magakian responds by scoring a takedown on Fischer and he gets the closed guard. Magakian starts to attack Fischer with some ground and pound, Fischer nearly catches Magakian in a triangle choke from his back. Fischer tries to roll for various submissions from his back, Fischer eventually scrambles to get the fight standing. Magakian attempts and arm throw takedown on Fischer and Fischer winds up with back control on him, Fischer locks in a rear naked choke and Magakian taps out.

Fight Result: Jason Fischer def. Sevak Magakian by submission via rear naked choke (3:37, R1)
