Former UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion Shane Carwin has announced his retirement from MMA, ending his career with a 12-2-0 record. Carwin won the interim heavyweight title when he defeated Frank Mir at UFC 111, but lost a title unification fight to Brock Lesnar at UFC 116. Throughout his MMA career, Carwin fought the likes of Lesnar, Mir, Junior Dos Santos, Gabriel Gonzaga and Christian Wellisch. Carwin last fought at UFC 131, dropping a unanimous decision to Dos Santos, a fight with Roy Nelson was set for the UFC Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale before injuries got in the way.
