INVICTA FC VI PAY-PER-VIEW CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 7/12/2013 4:52 PM

Easily the biggest night in the history of Invicta FC takes place on Saturday Night when the promotion makes its pay-per-view debut. The promotion may have lost a title bout, but the headlining bout between Cristiane Justino and Marloes Coenen will provide enough fireworks. There are nine other fights on the pay-per-view broadcast as well, with some of the best female MMA talent in the world competing.

Kicking off the action is a strawweight division fight as Rose “Thug” Namajunas (2-0-0) does battle against “The Tiny Tornado” Tecia Torres (2-0-0). Namajunas made the highlight reel at Invicta FC V when she defeated Kathina Catron with a flying arm bar in just twelve seconds. Torres has spent her entire MMA career in Invicta FC, defeating both Paige Van Zant and Kaiyana Rain. These are two of the better up and comers in Invicta FC right now, but it will be Namajunas remaining undefeated in the end.

A pair of bantamweights are up next as “The Queen Of Mean” Miriam Nakamoto (1-0-0-1NC) dukes it out with Duda “Diamond” Yankovich (1-1-0). Nakamoto made an auspicious promotional debut at Invicta FC V, when she fought Jessamyn Duke to a bout that was eventually turned into a no contest after an illegal knee strike by Nakamoto. Yankovich will be looking to build on her first professional MMA victory, which came over Daniela Cristina at Bitetti Combat 14. Nakamoto, despite the no contest on her record, has looked great thus far in her career and she will continue to look great as she defeats Yankovich.

More strawweight division action is up next as “Rowdy” Bec Hyatt (5-2-0) competes against Mizuki Inoue (5-1-0). Hyatt competed against Carla Esparza for the right to become the first ever Invicta FC Strawweight Champion, a fight that Esparza won at Invicta FC IV. Inoue will be making her North American MMA debut in this fight, but she does so on a three fight winning streak. This fight is truly a tough one to call, but it will be Hyatt getting the victory over Inoue to end her winning streak.

Featherweights will enter the cage next as Tamikka “Boom Boom” Brents (2-0-0) steps into the cage against Ediane “India” Gomes (10-2-0). Brents is currently undefeated in Invicta FC competition, defeating Amanda Bell by decision at Invicta FC IV. Gomes will enter the fight riding a four fight winning streak, with two of those victories coming in Invicta FC competition. Brents is taking the fight on very late notice and that is going to hurt her as Gomes notches her fifth straight victory.

Another strawweight division fight is up next as Joanne “Jojo” Calderwood (6-0-0) is in action against Norma Rueda Center (2-0-0). Calderwood is currently undefeated in Invicta FC competition, defeating both Livia Von Plettenberg and Ashley Cummins. Center is currently undefeated as a professional MMA fighter, but only made her pro debut four months ago. Center is another fighter who took a fight on very late notice, which Calderwood will take advantage of to get the win.

We move to the atomweight division for the next bout as Jessica Penne (10-2-0) looks for a win against Nicaldi “The Night Queen” Rivera-Calanoc (8-6-0). Penne is competing for the first time since losing the Invicta FC Atomweight Title to Michelle Waterson at Invicta FC V. Rivera-Calanoc is returning to action after a year away from the cage, her last fight was a win over Angelica Chavez at Invicta FC II. Penne is going to be motivated big time to get the win after losing her title, which is what will happen in this fight.

Our first flyweight bout of the evening is here as Jennifer Maia (7-2-1) has signed on to fight Leslie “The Peacemaker” Smith (5-3-1). Maia will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak, last defeating Zoila Gurgel by decision at Invicta FC V. Smith has won two of her last three fights, but her last bout was a loss to recent UFC signee Sarah Kaufman. Maia pulled one of the bigger upsets at Invicta FC V and she will keep her momentum alive with a win on Saturday Night.

The second bantamweight division fight of the event is up next as Sarah “The Monster” D’Alelio (7-3-0) battles Lauren Taylor (6-0-0). D’Alelio has won three of her last four fights, with a big victory over recent UFC signee Amanda Nunes at Invicta FC IV. Taylor is currently undefeated as a professional MMA fighter, last defeating Kaitlin Young by decision at Invicta FC V. Taylor has one of the more inspirational stories out there right now after she overcame drug abuse and she will remain undefeated when this is over.

Up next is a strawweight division affair as Claudia “Claudinha” Gadelha (9-0-0) takes on Ayaka Hamasaki (9-0-0). Gadelha is currently undefeated as a professional MMA fighter, with six victories coming in the opening round. Hamasaki is also undefeated as a professional MMA fighter and is the current Jewels Strawweight Champion. The winner of this fight should be next in line for an Invicta FC Strawweight Title bout and it will be Hamasaki getting that shot.

Headlining this card is an Invicta FC Featherweight Title decision fight as Marloes “Rumina” Coenen (21-5-0) faces Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino (11-1-0). Coenen will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak, which includes a victory over Romy Ruyssen at Invicta FC I. Justino is the former Strikeforce Women’s Featherweight Champion and has never actually lost the championship. Justino won the first battle between the two competitors and she with walk away with victory one more time.
