Rob Emerson has suffered an injury and is off the Bellator 97 card, replacing him against Patricio Freire is Jared Downing. Freire is coming off of a loss against current Bellator Featherweight Champion Pat Curran, which happened back at Bellator 85. Downing last competed at Resurrection Fighting Alliance VIII, losing to RFA Interim Featherweight Champion Lance Palmer by split decision. Bellator 97 takes place on July 31st from the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho, New Mexico with Michael Chandler and David Rickels headlining.
