CHAMPIONSHIP FIGHTING ALLIANCE 12 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 10/11/2013 10:56 AM

The Championship Fighting Alliance returns to AXS TV with a sophomore effort on the network that can be considered the biggest event in the promotions history. The event will he headlined by a trio of title fights in the flyweight, welterweight and lightweight divisions. Also, a UFC veteran will be competing and the finals of the women’s featherweight tournament will be taking place.

Kicking off the action is a bout for the vacant CFA Lightweight Title as Yosdenis “Pink Panther” Cedeno (8-2-0) competes against Torrance “The Tyrant” Taylor (13-7-1). Cedeno is currently undefeated in CFA competition, with four total victories thus far during his time in the promotion. Taylor will enter the fight riding a five fight winning streak and has previously fought against UFC veteran Fabricio Camoes. Cedeno has been running roughshod through the CFA competition thus far and he will take him the gold to get his biggest win thus far.

The women’s featherweight tournament final is up next as Ashlee Evans-Smith (1-0-0) does battle against “The Queen Of Swords” Fallon Fox (3-0-0). Evans-Smith made it to the finals after defeating Tori Adams at CFA X, but then received a bye in the semi-finals after her opponent failed to make weight. Fox earned her spot in the final round of the tournament after defeating Ericka Newsome and Allanna Jones. Fox has destroyed the competition throughout the tournament thus far and will dominate once more to win the tournament.

A battle for the vacant CFA Welterweight Title is next as Valdir “BB Monster” Araujo (13-4-0) battles Romerio Manoel “Junior Killer” Da Silva (23-10-1). Araujo has won three of four under the CFA banner, which includes a victory over UFC veteran Paul Bradley. Da Silva has won two of his last three fights, with that lone loss coming to UFC veteran Jay Hieron at Legacy FC 12. These are two of the better welterweights not signed to a major organization right now, but it will be Da Silva taking the belt home.

Up next is a lightweight division attraction as Efrain Escudero (20-7-0) takes on Luis “Baboon” Palomino (21-8-0). Escudero is a UFC veteran who will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak, last defeating Zack Surdyka at Bellator 100. Palomino has won four of five fights under the CFA banner, with a notable win over Strikeforce veteran Gesias Cavalcante at CFA VII. This is a key fight for both competitors if they are to ever return to the big stage, but it will be Palomino scoring the victory.

Headlining this card is a fight for the vacant CFA Flyweight Title as Joshua “The Gremlin” Sampo (9-2-0) faces Sam Thao (7-1-0). Sampo is currently undefeated in CFA competition, having defeated Bellator veteran Alexis Vila at CFA IX. Thao will enter the fight riding a four fight winning streak and this will be his first fight in a little over a year. These are two of the better flyweights not under the UFC banner right now, but it will be Sampo winning the belt.
