XTREME FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 27 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 12/10/2013 8:32 PM

Finishing off a busy Friday in the world of MMA will be a big event from the Xtreme Fighting Championships promotion. This particular event will be headlined by the XFC Featherweight Title Tournament Finals between Deivison Ribeiro and Farkhad Sharipov. Also, other notables on the card include UFC veteran Ryan Thomas, plus Bellator veterans Dom O’Grady, Dominique Steele and JP Reese.

Kicking off the action is a welterweight division bout as Dominique “Non-Stop Action Packed” Steele (7-4-0) competes against Ryan “The Tank Engine” Thomas (17-7-0). Steele has only won one of his last four bouts, with one of those losses coming to UFC veteran David Branch. Thomas will enter the fight riding a five fight winning streak, which includes a pair of victories over Rocky Francis. Thomas has been on the best roll of his career in recent months and that roll will continue when he defeats Steele.

A pair of lightweights will seek action next as JP Reese (10-7-0) is in action against Daniel “Agent Orange” Swain (10-2-0). Reese is currently winless under the XFC banner, dropping a fight to Landon Vannata by split decision at XFC 25. Swain enters the fight riding a four fight winning streak, which includes a pair of victories in the Pancrase victory. Swain was originally set to headline this event prior to the injury to original opponent Junior Assuncao, but he will still get the win either way.

More welterweight action is next as Marcus “The Iron Dragon” Reynolds (9-7-0) does battle against Dequan “The Tarantula” Townsend (4-2-0). Reynolds will enter the fight riding a three fight winning streak, with all of those victories coming in the opening round. Townsend has won three of his last four fights, with two of those victories coming in less than thirty seconds. These are two fighters who are in a big need of a victory, but it will be Townsend winning this pivotal bout.

Another welterweight division bout is up next as “Insane” Dave Courchaine (15-6-0) battles Alexander “Spider” Trevino (5-3-0). Courchaine has won eight of his last nine fights, with one of those victories coming over UFC veteran Ronald Jhun. Trevino has only won one of his last four fights and he has not competed in a fight in well over an entire year. Courchaine is quickly becoming the next breakout star in the XFC promotion and his star will rise when he defeats Trevino.

Up next is a lightweight division encounter as Dom “I Hate You So Much” O’Grady (15-6-1) faces Eric “It’s A Wrap” Reynolds (18-6-0). O’Grady has won two of his last three bouts, with both of those victories coming in the Bellator promotion. Reynolds will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak, with his last loss coming to WSOF veteran Nick Newell. The winner of this fight could be next in line for a lightweight title bout and it will be Reynolds getting that shot.

Headlining this card is the XFC Featherweight Title Tournament Finals as Deivison “Deivison Dragon” Ribeiro (24-9-0-1NC) takes on Farkhad "Frank” Sharipov (14-5-0). Ribeiro punched his ticket to the tournament finals after defeating Jason Hicks by first round TKO at XFC 26. Sharipov was able to advance to the tournament finals when he defeated Stephen Bass by opening round TKO at XFC 25. These are two fighters who are known for their finishing abilities, but it will be Ribeiro winning the tournament and the title.
