BAMMA 14 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 12/11/2013 1:58 PM

Kicking off an exciting Saturday slate of MMA events will be another stacked card from the UK-based BAMMA promotion. The event will be headlined by UFC veteran Paul Daley, as well as a BAMMA Lightweight Title bout. The preliminary card is loaded with fights and there is even a key fight in the welterweight division on top.

Kicking off the action is a bantamweight division attraction as Ed Arthur (1-0-0) competes against Ben “Flubber” Rees (1-0-0). Arthur made his professional MMA debut this past summer, defeating Jamie Pritchard at Shock N’ Awe 14. Rees made his professional MMA debut at Cage Warriors 55, defeating Gavin Kelly by first round submission. These are two competitors who started their MMA careers on the right foot, but it will be Rees defeating Arthur to remain undefeated in the end.

Middleweights will be stepping into the cage next as Matt “Farmer Boy” Hallam (3-2-0) is in action against Curtis “Farmer” Widmer (2-0-0). Hallam is currently winless in BAMMA competition, having dropped a fight to Harry McLeman at BAMMA 13. Widmer has spent his entire career, up until this point anyway, in the Ultimate Challenge MMA promotion. A battle of the “farmers” is definitely an interesting one at that, but it will be Widmer defeating the more experienced Hallam.

A pair of welterweights will clash next as Tim Menzies (0-0-0) is doing battle against James Samuda (1-0-0). Menzies will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but he did go undefeated while competing as an amateur. Samuda made his professional MMA debut earlier this year at Fight UK MMA IX, defeating Max Cotton by submission. Menzies looked very impressive while fighting as an amateur and he will look impressive in his pro debut when he defeats Samuda.

We move to the lightweight division for the next contest as Jefferson “Shadow Demon Blaximus” George (3-1-0) dukes it out with Tim “The Experiment” Wilde (2-0-0). George is currently undefeated in BAMMA competition, having defeated Mariusz Marzec at BAMMA 13. Wilde made his BBAMA debut back at BAMMA 13, which is where he defeated Stephen Martin by unanimous decision. This is a pretty big fight at this stage in both competitors’ careers, but it will be George ending the undefeated streak of Wilde.

Our first featherweight bout of the card is next as Andy Craven (2-0-0) stands across the cage from Zi Shah (4-0-0). Craven has spent his who career up until this point in the Caged Steel Fighting Championships promotion, defeating both Danny Welsh and Kam Patel. Shah has been very dominant thus far in his professional MMA career, with none of his fights going past the first round. Shah has been destroying his opponents thus far and his domination will continue when he hands Craven his first pro MMA defeat.

More middleweight action is up next as Matt “The Wrecking Machine” Howard (9-1-0) has signed onto battle Harry “Mad Mac” McLeman (5-2-0). Howard will be looking to rebound from his first professional MMA defeat, which came to Lee Chadwick at Olympian MMA Championships 15. McLeman has split both of his past BAMMA bouts, defeating Matt Hallam and suffering a defeat to Scott Askham. Howard was a finishing machine prior to his most recent defeat, but he will get back on track by defeating McLeman.

Another welterweight division battle will happen next as Leon Edwards (4-1-0) faces Wendle “Nice Guy” Lewis (6-1-0). Edwards is currently undefeated in BAMMA competition, defeating both Jonathan Bilton and Adam Boussif. Lewis is returning to the cage after being away for a little over a year, with his last fight being a victory over Kester Mamba at an October 2012 Ultimate Warriors Challenge event. The long layoff is going to negatively affect Lewis in this one as Edwards notches another victory in his career.

Up next is a featherweight division affair as Tom “Fire Kid” Duquesnoy (7-1-0) takes on James “Scraps” Saville (12-7-0). Duquesnoy will enter the fight riding a three fight winning streak and this fight will be his fifth battle of 2013. Daville has only won two of his last six fights, with one of those six losses coming to UFC veteran LC Davis. Duquesnoy is on a far better run than his opponent is one right now and that run will continue when he defeats Saville.

Headlining this portion of the card is a welterweight division contest as Michael “Black Death” Johnson (9-5-0) battles Wayne “Mayhem” Murrie (16-5-1). Johnson is returning to BAMMA after being away for over two years, last defeating Paul Cook at BAMMA V. Murrie is returning to action after being away for well over a year and he has not won a fight in over a year as well. Johnson has been away from BAMMA for far too long and he will return to the promotion by gaining a victory.
