UFC ON FOX IX FOX SPORTS 1 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 12/12/2013 10:46 PM

Finishing off another big weekend of MMA action will be yet another loaded UFC On Fox card, with a flyweight title bout in the headliner. The preliminary card is stacked as well, with a grand total of six fights airing on the Fox Sports 1 network. Those fights will feature a highly anticipated rematch, a flyweight debut for Scott Jorgensen and a TUF Champion in action.

Kicking off the action is a lightweight division fight as “Relentless” Roger Bowling (11-4-0-1NC) competes against Abel “Killa” Trujillo (10-5-0-1NC). Bowling will enter the fight riding a two fight losing streak and he has not won a fight in well over a year. Trujillo has won one of three under the UFC banner, with that lone win coming over Marcus LeVesseur at UFC On Fox V. The first bout between the two ended in a no contest after Trujillo caught Bowling with an illegal knee, but Bowling will gain revenge when he defeats Trujillo in the rematch.

More lightweight division action is next as Cody “AK Kid” McKenzie (14-3-0) is in action against Sam “Hands Of Stone” Stout (19-9-1). McKenzie will be returning to the lightweight division after a two fight run at featherweight, where he earned a record of 1-1-0. Stout has rotated wins and losses in his last six fights, with his last fight being a loss to James Krause at UFC 161. This is a must win situation for both competitors in this one and it will be Stout getting that pivotal win.

A pair of flyweights will duke it out next as Scott “Young Guns” Jorgensen (14-7-0) does battle against Zach “Fun Size” Makovsky (16-4-0). Jorgensen will be making his flyweight debut in this fight, posting a record of 3-3-0 as a bantamweight in the UFC. Makovsky will be making his UFC debut in this fight and he is the current Resurrection Fighting Alliance Flyweight Champion. Makovsky has been looking very good heading into his promotional debut and he will pull the upset of the night when he defeats the UFC veteran.

Another lightweight division attraction is up next as Bobby “King” Green (21-5-0) battles Pat “Bam Bam” Healy (29-17-0-1NC). Green is currently undefeated in UFC competition, with his victories coming over Jacob Volkmann and James Krause. Healy is currently winless in UFC competition, suffering a defeat to Khabib Nurmagomedov and fighting Jim Miller to a no contest. Healy has completely fallen apart since coming to the UFC from Strikeforce and those woes will continue as he drops a fight to Green.

Up next is a lightweight division affair as Edson Barboza (12-1-0) takes on Danny “Last Call” Castillo (16-5-0). Barboza will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak and he is the only fighter in UFC history to finish two opponents with leg kicks. Castillo has won five of his last six under the UFC banner, most notably defeating Anthony Njokuani at UFC 141. The winner of this fight should break into the top ten of the division and it will be Castillo getting the victory here.

Headlining this portion of the card is a welterweight division fight as Ryan LaFlare (9-0-0) faces Court “The Crusher” McGee (16-3-0). LaFlare has already competed twice under the UFC banner, defeating the duo of Ben Alloway and Santiago Ponzinibbio. McGee has been undefeated as a welterweight in the UFC, with his victories coming over Josh Neer and Robert Whittaker. This is a pivotal fight in the welterweight division, but it will be McGee ending his opponent’s undefeated streak.
