Sonnen and Stann Break Down FOX UFC SATURDAY Fights
LOS ANGELES, CA – The following quotes are from tonight’s FOX SPORTS LIVE coverage of FOX UFC SATURDAY. The show was hosted by Jon Anik, with Chael Sonnen and Brian Stann providing analysis.
UFC ON FOX Analyst Chael Sonnen on Demetrious Johnson vs. Joseph Benavidez: “The fight came down to movement. Boxing is a lot more than just throwing punches. When Demetrious Johnson starts to move his feet and he lets his hands go, you can’t keep up with him.”
UFC ON FOX Analyst Brian Stann on Johnson’s victory: “Mostly you see Johnson be the matador and tonight he came out and went on the offensive right away and threw with power. He showed the one new skill he has.”
UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson on defending the title: “I was trying to get my timing on him, my footwork on him. I threw from right field and it landed and I’m happy to get the finish.”
Johnson on displaying power with a knockout: “It’s one of the things we’ve been working on in the gym, to set my feet and get my power. I used to watch how Joseph Benavidez beat people in the WEC and I’m still working on it.”
Johnson on beating Benavidez: “He’s a great fighter. He’s going to come back. We’re going to fight again. Usually he comes after people. Tonight he didn’t. It let me set my feet and put the power in my hands.”

UFC ON FOX Analyst Brian Stann on Urijah Faber vs. Michael McDonald: “The story before the fight was Urijah Faber’s wrestling against Michael’s power striking. But it was the deception, the feints that Faber threw that would lead to the victory.”
Faber on beating McDonald: “McDonald is such a young guy. He’s so talented. I kind of lulled him into that saying before the fight how good his stand-up was, but he forgets who I train with - guys like Chad Mendes, Joseph Benavidez, TJ Dillashaw, and the rest at my gym. These guys are heavy hitters. I was looking for him to get into a gun fight and he got caught by one.”
Faber on being an older fighter: “For a 22 year old, 34 probably sounds old, but I’m excited to let everyone know this is the new generation. I’m not one of the old dinosaurs in the sport. I’m a seasoned professional who’s trained in every discipline and that’s what the next generation is about. When I’m not shooting for the stars is when I’m going to be out of this sport.”

UFC President Dana White on Demetrious Johnson’s knockout victory and not getting respect: “The kid looks better and better every time he fights. It’s an explosive and exciting division. Nobody will be talking smack about it now. The fights have been unbelievable. I don’t know how he won’t get respect now.”
White on Faber’s victory and standing: “He reminds me of Vitor Belfort, the older he gets, the better he gets. He’s the number-one contender in the division now.”
White on Georges St-Pierre walking away from the sport: “He didn’t walk away. He’s going to come back. He has some things he has to handle. He did the classy thing and vacate the title. He did the right thing. He’s going to be gone a while. Somebody will win that belt and then he’ll be back.”
White on Carlos Condit’s next fight: “I was going to do Carlos Condit vs. Nick Diaz and Nick doesn’t want the fight. He’s not thinking about a fighting right now. Maybe he’ll come back in May. I’ve got to figure out what to do with Condit now.”
