SHOOTO: BRAZIL BOOKING MALE VS. FEMALE FIGHT

By David Tees on 12/17/2013 4:37 PM

In what has to be a first in the history of professional MMA, the Shooto: Brazil promotion will feature a male versus female MMA bout as part of the Shooto: Brazil 45 card. The historic bout will be in the bantamweight division as Emerson Falcao will represent the men against Juliana Velasquez, who will represent the females. Falcao is currently winless as a professional MMA fighter, dropping his debut fight to Benny Black at Upper Sport Combat II. Velasquez will be making her professional MMA debut in the fight, but she does train with the coveted Team Nogueira in Brazil.

There is a lot of controversy surrounding the fight, because the Brazilian Mixed Martial Arts Confederation will not sanction the bout. However, sanctioned or not, the intergender bout can still take place, because the BMMAC does not have the authority in any official way to stop the bout from taking place. Shooto: Brazil 45 takes place on December 20th from the Miecimo Da Silva Sports Complex in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil with Lincoln De Sa and Alexandre Pantoja Passidomo headlining.
