UFC 168 FOX SPORTS 1 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 12/26/2013 10:40 PM

One of the most highly anticipated UFC pay-per-view events of the year is only a few more days away, with two title matches in the headlining spots. The preliminary card is loaded as well, with a battle between Chris Leben and Uriah Hall in the featured spot. Also, there are some key fights in the lightweight division, featherweight division and welterweight division as well.

Kicking off the action is a welterweight division attraction as Siyar “The Great” Bahadurzada (21-5-1) competes against John “Doomsday” Howard (21-8-0). Bahadurzada has split both of his past UFC bouts, defeating Paulo Thiago and suffering a defeat to Dong Hyun Kim. Howard is currently undefeated in his second UFC run, having defeated Uriah Hall at UFC Fight Night 26. Bahadurzada was sidetracked with the Kim defeat, but will rebound to defeat Howard in the first televised prelim bout.

Featherweights will be stepping into the cage next as Manny “The Anvil” Gamburyan (13-7-0) battles Dennis Siver (21-9-0). Gamburyan will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak, last defeating Cole Miller at UFC Fight Night 26. Siver has won two of three fights as a featherweight, most notably defeating Diego Nunes at UFC On Fuel TV II. Siver has the ability to neutralize the wrestling of Gamburyan, which is what will get him the victory.

Up next is a lightweight division affair as Michael “The Menace” Johnson (13-8-0) takes on Gleison Tibau (28-9-0). Johnson has only won one of his last three fights, with that lone win coming over Joe Lauzon at UFC Fight Night 26. Tibau has won three of his last four under the UFC banner, with his last win coming over Jamie Varner at UFC 164. Tibau has an amazing ground game and that will be enough to defeat Johnson and win his fourth straight.

Headlining this portion of the card is a middleweight division bout as Uriah Hall (7-4-0) faces Chris “The Crippler” Leben (22-10-0). Hall is currently winless in UFC competition, dropping fights to Kelvin Gastelum and John Howard. Leben has only won one of his last five fights and the fighter has not won a fight in well over two full years. Hall has fallen apart mentally in all of his UFC appearances and Leben has been around enough to know what to do to get the win.
